>> INSIDER WIRE —Art + Commerce scored a coup last week, snagging Patrick Demarchelier to add to their stable that already includes Steven Meisel, Hedi Slimane, Annie Leibovitz, and Craig McDean. Meanwhile, this week comes a photographer blind item — which may or may not be related — many are thinking it refers to Steven Meisel and Vogue Italia: "Which power magazine is facing the the finish date of that mega-photographer's blue chip contract with the publication? The Hiss Squad is [in] a tizzy at the thought of what might happen should said book fail[s] to close a new deal soon. The creation of fashion's most valuable free agent? More room for a new generation of photographers to play? A rethink of the nature of long term contracts?" [FWD, The Imagist]
>> We've gotten plenty of snippets from the CNN: Revealed profile on Carine Roitfeld already — including her stance on the Vogue replacement rumors — but now, the full show is out on video. Besides discussing the April 2009 cover of Vogue Paris, we get a peek at an upcoming Patrick Demarchelier editorial with Ymre Stiekema in Spring 2009 couture holding animals at an agricultural show ("I didn't know how hard it would be to shoot in this place"), plus a snippet of an interaction between Carine and Anna Wintour, in which Anna cryptically asks, "Did you get my letter? Do you understand?" Without further ado . . .
>> Despite a scathing review in The New York Times yesterday, the" black hole of bad art and superficial temptations," otherwise known as the Chanel Mobile Art exhibition, brought out the well-heeled last night. Editors were in full force — Carine Roitfeld and Franca Sozzani swarmed Karl Lagerfeld upon his arrival, Glenda Bailey and Amy Astley made early cameos — but there was no Anna Wintour in sight . . . nor Bee Shaffer for that matter. Strange, considering how close they are with Karl — Bee was at the Versace-hosted Whitney gala the night before, but no Anna there either. But speaking of missing persons — Catherine McNeil and Freja Beha Erichsen fans will be happy to know that after their well-documented disappearances during Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks, they've popped up again — together, no less.

>> Is Liz Tilberis rolling in her grave right now? Her iconic September 1994 Harper's Bazaar cover of Nadja Auermann photographed by Patrick Demarchelier has been swiped and reinterpreted for the September 2008 cover of W, featuring Kate Hudson as photographed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
The resemblance is far too uncanny to be a coincidence, what with the same blonde hair, light eyebrows, heavy cat-eye makeup, piercing blue eyes, and dark lipstick framed with a collar of blue all in common. Of all the months to choose, wouldn't the big September issue be one you'd want to get creative with?
BCBG ads have never blown me away . . . until now. Serafima, Tanya D and Nicole Trunfio show off the clothes wonderfully, despite blurry visions passing to and fro. Patrick Demarchelier captured the youth, beauty, and even an element of cool for the brand. The models are a bit whitewashed, but I suppose that makes the images more striking; they look like mannequins. Normally I would like a bit more personality from the talent, but the talent was all in the clothes and behind the lens. I can't wait to see this one in a full glossy, what about you?
>> INSIDER WIRE —Watch out Sorrentis and Richardsons, another fashion photog family may be on the rise. Not only is Patrick Demarchelier's son Victor Demarchelier rumored to be dating Caroline Trentini, he's ready for a full-on fashion world entree. He started out assisting his father, and has been taking his own photographs for over a year, most recently backstage at Dior. [WWD]
>> THE MODELIZER —Rumor has it that fashion has spawned a new couple: Caroline Trentini and Patrick Demarchelier's 26-year-old son Victor Demarchelier. I wonder if that means more Demarchelier pere shoots for Caroline . . . [Glamurama]
It never ceases to amaze me how fast model moms kick it into high gear postbirth: First with Natalia Vodianova walking the Paris runways three weeks after having her third child and now with Karen Elson, who has just been named the face of BCBG's Spring campaign.
Karen gave birth to her second child in August and replaces another model mom, Angela Lindvall. Patrick Demarchelier photographed the series, which is sure to be stunning — Karen's light complexion and blazing red hair will look perfect in BCBG's washed-out Spring collection.
The inaugural issue of Vogue India hit stands today, featuring Bollywood stars Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra and Preity Zinta, local supermodels MoniKangana Dutta and Laxmi Menon, and Australian supermodel Gemma Ward all on the cover, shot by fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier.
This new edition of Vogue is expected to be more colorful and more vibrant than the western models, according to Alex Kuruvilla, managing director of Conde Nast India. He also expects it to draw attention to Indian designers, Indian photographers, and even Indian models. The Vogue India woman has the best of both the eastern and western worlds: she wears Jimmy Choo shoes along with her traditional Indian garb.
