I know your sweatshirts and pencil skirts don't mingle much, but maybe they should. At least that's what I'm thinking since Rachel Roy's ladylike goes cool combo caught my eye. While your pencil skirt lends femme sophistication, your slouchy sweatshirt top is totally effortless; when they meet, it's dressed-down chic at its best. Don't complicate things, feel free to play with textures and prints, just avoid bulky sweatshirts with too much length or width — extra cool points if you opt for a leather pencil.

I looked and found this Vena Cava Pandora Skirt in Pearl ($79, originally $298). How sultry would it be with a silk black tank and metallic sandals? But, for the better of my pocketbook, it's only available in a size 10. While there are many Barneys bargains, just keep an eye on the sizes, they are unpredictable. But still, have a lookie . . .
What a lovely little lady Hayden Panettiere has become! While most other stars showed up to Z100's Annual Jingle Ball in casual gear, the petite actress stepped it up a notch in a dramatic white ruffle blouse and black pencil skirt. Some may say she's a tad overdressed for the occasion, but I say more power to her. . . . this is how fashionistas ought to differentiate themselves from the masses.

I would pencil her in anyday after seeing luvpizaman in this fantastic pencil skirt-driven getup! The black top on dark denim combo looks really nice, very flattering, and I like how she broke up the dark on dark with the skinny white belt. For a little pizazz, the patent pumps were a great touch!
