Exclusive: The Trippiest Fashion Video of 2013 Might Have Already Arrived

It's too bad Pop Magazine's newest video wasn't released in 2012.

It's too bad Pop Magazine's newest video wasn't released in 2012. The new short, entitled "Chanel Pink Beach," surely would have topped our list of the trippiest fashion videos of the year.

The video, which was created by artist and rapper Helen Benigson, features still shots of model Tallulah Harlech wearing Chanel's Spring 2013 collection. But instead of simply presenting the video as a lookbook, Benigson mixed together a barrage of visual elements that might send viewers into an altered state of mind. Benigson superimposed the pictures of Harlech over video of unnamed people frolicking on the beach with their children, and washed all of the visuals in a neon pink light. If those elements weren't disparate enough, the entire video is set to a scintillating set of lyrics spoken over Galt MacDermot's "And He Will Not Come Again."

The mind wonders if anyone in fashion will be able to top this before the year ends. A look at the video below.

Exclusive First Look: Pop Magazine's Autumn/Winter 2012 Cover

Pop Magazine's Autumn/Winter 2012 issue features an armless, torso-less Sui He clad in Balenciaga on one of its three covers.

Pop Magazine's Autumn/Winter 2012 issue features an armless, torso-less Sui He clad in Balenciaga on one of its three covers.

This cover, shot by Viviane Sassen and styled by the magazine's fashion director Vanessa Reid, will be joined by another soft cover and a hardback version that have yet to be released.

The issue follows a "Warrior Woman" theme and promises an interview with Tina Turner and a feature on artists Yayoi Kusama — of the recent dotty Louis Vuitton collaboration — and Sarah Lucas. There's also a feature on the return of the Bernadette Corporation, an artists collective that has produced, at various times, an haute couture line, a magazine called Made in USA, and a documentary about the protests at the 2001 G8 Summit in Genoa, Italy.

The issue will be on newsstands Aug. 22; an exclusive look at the first cover below.

POP Magazine Autumn/Winter 2011

>> For Fall 2011, POP is having a Marina Abramović moment; the magazine tapped the performance artist to collaborate and appear on all three covers of the new issue — one of which also features model Freja Beha. "We'd been wanting to do a cover project with Marina for a while now," editorial director Ashley Heath explained. "The link-up with Freja seemed very right somehow. The dark hair/dark sexuality angle, and the fact they're both uncompromising and very choosy in what they do."

Shot in high-contrast black and white, each of the three Marina covers feature a different vignette — in one, the artist poses with a mini version of herself; in another, the mini-Marina looks solemly over Freja's shoulder. The third cover — a limited-edition hardback — features only Marina's upside-down face, in full mime-style makeup.

Rumor — Aliona Doletskaya In Pursuit of POP Editor Position?

>> Founding Vogue Russia editor Aliona Doletskaya resigned from her position at the end of July — with her final issue of the magazine hitting stands for September 2010 — without delineating any future plans other than notifying Condé Nast International president Jonathan Newhouse that, in his words, she would like to "start a new life, probably to write a book or try her hand in a new field."

Not much has been heard from Doletskaya since — save for a recent byline in the New York Times on luxury in Russia — but late last week, Derek Blasberg Tweeted, "In today's completely unsubstantiated rumors: Aliona Doletskaya, former editor-in-chief of Russian Vogue, is vying for the top gig at POP." UPDATE: A POP spokesman says Zhukova is leaving to focus on digital publishing projects in the arts, and the magazine will now fall under POP editorial director Ashley Heath. “My time at POP has been a transformative experience that I am extremely proud of,” Zhukova said. “It has afforded me the chance to collaborate with some of the greatest creative minds in the world and I’m thankful to Ashley Heath and Bauer Media for the opportunity. I’m now excited to move on and build something from the ground up.” The spokesman added that Zhukova’s final issue had twice as many advertisers and nearly three times the ad pages as when founder Katie Grand was editing the magazine.
