The Best Snaps From the 2013 Met Gala Afterparty

Usually the people who organize the main event aren't responsible for throwing the afterparty, but last night, Lauren Santo Domingo and Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci — both among the cochairs of Monday's Met Gala — hosted a star-studded after-hours fete at the Standard Hotel.

People from all corners of the industry rubbed shoulders at the party — Jenna Lyons posed for a picture with Derek Blasberg, and Hamish Bowles was spotted with Santo Domingo, Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, and Alexander Wang. Patrick Robinson attended with his wife, Vogue's Virginia Smith, and stylist Brad Goreski posed for a quick picture with a Burberry-clad Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

Met Gala: Rooney Mara

Rooney Mara was the first to arrive at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala — and with that, our red carpet coverage is under way!

Rooney Mara was the first to arrive at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala — and with that, our red carpet coverage is under way! The gala cochair stepped out in a custom white Givenchy Haute Couture gown, a fitting choice considering her penchant for Riccardo Tisci creations and the fact that the designer also happens to be one of the evening's cochairs. The dress featured an allover floral embroidery, exposed zippers, ruffles, and a series of dramatic skin reveals. To finish, Rooney rocked a dark punk-inspired makeup look, Jennifer Meyer rings and Givenchy sandals. Are you into it?

Here's What Riccardo Tisci's Barely-There Ballet Costumes Look Like on the Dancers

Riccardo Tisci's latest side project saw him designing sheer costumes for the Paris National Opera Ballet's production of Maurice Ravel's Boléro, which debuted at the Palais Garnier Thursday night.

Riccardo Tisci's latest side project saw him designing sheer costumes for the Paris National Opera Ballet's production of Maurice Ravel's Boléro, which debuted at the Palais Garnier Thursday night.

Tisci, creative director of Givenchy, explained in a statement about his designs that he "wanted the dancers to feel naked somehow," and added that the costumes express the same dark and romantic sensibility seen in his ready-to-wear collections.

"The dancers wear nude catsuits in illusion tulle embroidered with white lace forming a skeleton," he said. "They shed several layers as they dance just like the life cycle of animals or flowers losing their petals. They become these moving skeletons, strong and fragile at the same time."

A look at the costumes in production and in action, here in the gallery.

Givenchy's "Future Feminism" Collection Caters to a Strong, Chic Woman

The Givenchy Fall '13 collection certainly catered to a strong, stylish woman.

The Givenchy Fall '13 collection certainly catered to a strong, stylish woman. Even from the start, the show notes declared that "future feminism" was the source of inspiration and drive for this lineup. It came as no surprise then that long sheer skirts, tougher knits, toggled outerwear, and structured striped boots all made the styling cut. Watch the complete Givenchy collection come down the runway now — and be on the lookout for appearances from Natalia Vodianova and Erin Wasson!

Givenchy Fall 2013

With a front row that included Jessica Chastain, Frank Ocean, Amanda Seyfried, Kanye West, and Kim Kardashian, Riccardo Tisci's Fall 2013 show for Givenchy was among the buzziest of Paris Fashion Week outings yet.

With a front row that included Jessica Chastain, Frank Ocean, Amanda Seyfried, Kanye West, and Kim Kardashian, Riccardo Tisci's Fall 2013 show for Givenchy was among the buzziest of Paris Fashion Week outings yet. Thanks to a live performance by Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons and the imposing circular runway at Halle Freyssinet, it was also one of the more theatrical.

Givenchy Fall 2013 Runway

The Givenchy Fall '13 woman is strong — even the show notes described this collection as one defined by "future feminism."
Givenchy Runway | Fashion Week Fall 2013 Photos

The Givenchy Fall '13 woman is strong — even the show notes described this collection as one defined by "future feminism." What exactly does that look like? To start, Riccardo Tisci sent out long sheer skirts, trimmed with embellishments, then topped them with tougher (and sometimes sparkly) knits. Long gone are the Rottweiler prints, now replaced by sweeter Bambi-printed sweatshirts. Zippered layers were styled with ruffled leather midi-length skirts, hints of rose prints and plaid were scattered throughout, and the outerwear showcased toggle-front detailing and wide waist-cinching belts. Meanwhile, the shoes — midcalf boots with bold stripes — and rosebud hair caps rounded out each model's look with equal parts softness and structure. Considering the front row that included Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Jessica Chastain, Amanda Seyfried, Nicole Richie, and Frank Ocean, we're pretty sure Tisci's latest for Givenchy will be seen off-runway very soon. Riccardo Tisci Renews Contract With LVMH, but What About Marc Jacobs?

The industry rejoiced today over the news that Riccardo Tisci has extended his contract at Givenchy, but there's no word yet on whether Marc Jacobs has signed on for another stint at Louis Vuitton.

The industry rejoiced today over the news that Riccardo Tisci has extended his contract at Givenchy, but there's no word yet on whether Marc Jacobs has signed on for another stint at Louis Vuitton.

Tisci will continue in his role as Givenchy's creative director for the next three years while the brand "shifts into an expansion mode" that hopes to capitalize on its current popularity. Tisci's wildly salable clothing — like the rottweiler t-shirt from Fall 2011 that became a hit with customers and celebrities alike — are doubtless a part of his staying power at the brand.

In early January, Jacobs mentioned at both the WWD CEO Summit and a talk with Fern Mallis at 92nd Street Y that he and his business partner Marc Duffy were heading to Paris to talk about their contracts with LVMH, which were last renewed at the beginning of 2011. "I'm not really sure," he said when WWD's executive editor Bridget Foley pressed him about specifics at the summit. "I know that we're discussing renegotiations."

There's not much evidence to suggest that Jacobs hasn't signed on the dotted line, although when he talked about his tenure at Louis Vuitton with Mallis, he said, "I've been there for 15 years — though I don't know if I'll be there for 15 more." Jacobs is the only creative director Louis Vuitton has ever had, and it's difficult to imagine what the brand would look like without his aesthetic and elaborate runway staging.

But creative directors — unlike Supreme Court justices or tenured university professors — don't get lifetime appointments. Jacobs was, for a long time, the front-runner for the creative director's chair at Dior, suggesting that he's prepared to leave Vuitton for the right opportunity. But after the Dior talks ended, Jacobs said of his job, "There is so much more left to do and building Louis Vuitton into a fashion company is something nobody else can say they really started."

H&M

Neither Givenchy Nor H&M Will Comment on Collaboration Rumors (Updated)

Update: Givenchy has denied speculation that it will collaborate with H&M.

Update: Givenchy has denied speculation that it will collaborate with H&M. According to Vogue UK, the house says rumors about the partnership are "false." And while H&M never commented on the Givenchy rumor, its creative adviser Margareta van den Bosch told The Telegraph it will "not have any [collaborations] for Spring. We decided to skip it, as we have had so many this year. So it'll be something for next November."

The Internet has been aflutter with rumors that H&M's next designer collaboration will be with Givenchy, and so far, both parties are keeping mum on the topic.

On Monday, a Givenchy representative told Fashionologie that the house does "not have a comment"; a spokeswoman at H&M said the retailer "does not comment on rumors."

But radio silence from both brands hasn't stopped fervent speculation, which was sparked by a Nov. 19 post on the Tumblr Fashion Industry Confessions. The author of the post claimed, "Rumors straight from the Givenchy headquarters have it that they will collaborate with H&M next year." The claim has since been bolstered and questioned by blogs and Twitter accounts far and wide, but confirmed by no one.

The last time H&M kept quiet about a rumor, it was when rumors ran rampent about the company's plans to start a higher-priced label. We all know how that turned out: & Other Stories is set to launch in Spring 2013.

If this latest rumor pans out, then it would make Givenchy and Riccardo Tisci the first LVMH house and designer to partner with H&M. But whether there's a deal between the two brands or not, the time for H&M to announce its next designer collaboration is drawing nearer. The retailer unveiled plans for its Spring 2012 partnership with Marni on Nov. 29, 2011.
