Inspired: Sail Away

What better way to while away a sunny Summer day than on a sailboat?

What better way to while away a sunny Summer day than on a sailboat? In this photo, the French schooner Etoile is a picture-perfect example of that very concept. While I didn't live on the Atlantic growing up, I loved taking our small sailboat onto the choppy waves of Lake Superior during the dog days of July and August. But if you can't hop a boat and sail away into the sunset, you can at least get the look of it at home.

Start with Jennifer Davis's graphite and acyrlic painting Smooth Water ($450). But don't stop there! I have plenty of other great Summer sailing-inspired finds when you read more

Last month it was announced that Louis Vuitton’s new sailing race, the Pacific Series, would be taking place in Auckland to a chorus of intense interest from yachting fans. And indeed the race, set to take place in January of 2009 already has six confirmed entries. They are Emirates New Zealand, BMW Oracle Racing, France’s K-Challenge team, Mascalzone Latino from Italy and South Africa’s Shosholoza.

According to WWD, A second team from Italy has officially entered, but the crew has yet to be announced. It is believed to be Prada, but a spokesman for the Italian brand said: “We have been invited, but it is to be decided.” Eight berths are available.

Sandals

Get Your Butt in Gear: Chaco Sandals

Ahh, it's finally flip flop season.

Ahh, it's finally flip flop season. You could definitely spend $12 on a cheap pair of foam ones, but chances are your feet and back won't be too happy with you.

So you might want to spring for a more expensive, yet more supportive, long lasting pair of Chaco sandals. These shoes have a durable yet comfortable sole that was specially designed to support the arch of your foot and control pronation. This in turn, improves your posture and helps prevent lower back pain.

The straps on these sandals are completely adjustable, stabilizing your foot for the perfect fit. These super designed shoes bear the Seal of Acceptance from the APMA (American Podiatric Medical Association). Not bad for a flip flop replacement.

The style ZX/2's are my favorite. They are so comfortable and cool as well supportive. The two narrow straps (instead of just one) create a better fit by conforming the sole to the curvature of your foot. They're great for sailing, canoing, kayaking, hiking through the woods and streams, or just about whatever you're into outdoors. You can get them from Rock Creek Outfitters for $94.95.

Chaco also makes more traditionally styled sandals and flip flops and if you want to see them just read more

Come Fab Finding With Me: Sassy Sailor

This week I caught a rerun of the Friends episode where Rachel tries to teach Joey how to sail.

This week I caught a rerun of the Friends episode where Rachel tries to teach Joey how to sail. It was quite funny when Rachel channels her father's strict sailing teacher ways and Joey just can't handle it; he simply calls Rachel "mean." Mean she may have been but her little sailing outfit was all cute and Tommy Hilfigered out.

I thought it would be fun to put together a sassy and functional sailing look. I'll start you off with these classic, and necessary, sailing accessory: Marc by Marc Jacobs Metal Aviator Sunglasses, $90. Let's all go Fab Finding for an awesome little sailing outfit - don't forget the sunscreen! Come back and tell me when your Fab Finds are up and tag them with sassy sailor.
