So, when you're shopping for a pair to wear with your '70s denim or your printed dresses and calf-length skirts, wouldn't you want a label that's not just in it for the trendy hype? Every year the week before school started, my mother bought me a new pair of shoes. Because I love shoes, I've kept up the tradition all these years after graduation. My life involves a lot of walking, so as lovely as they look, high heels are not a staple for me. I have rounded up some comfy yet cute shoes to help you keep on the move in your daily life. Save the heels for evening!

I have been a fan of Dansko for years. Easy to kick off when I needed to demonstrate a Pilates exercise and perfect for standing at the counter prepping dinner, clogs have been my mainstay. But Dansko has expanded its footwear line to include boots, both knee and ankle heights, and flats. I'm liking the looks of these Penelope boots ($220). The low heel is a wedge for even more foot support.

I know what you're thinking: They look like hospital shoes. But I saw a girl wearing these last weekend and thought they looked very functional chic. The bit of height and tread on the bottom prevent exposure and slippage in murky, icy waters and the patent leather makes them acceptable in fashion circles.
