Don't Mess With the Women of Prada's Spring 2013 Video

Turns out those flowers in Prada's Spring 2013 collection weren't just for decoration.

Turns out those flowers in Prada's Spring 2013 collection weren't just for decoration. The narrative of the brand's newest campaign video treats the blooms like beautiful, powerful women that shouldn't be messed with.

The short film, called Ten Women, stars a full bouquet of models including Eva Herzigova, Irene Hiemstra, Irina Kravchenko, Kirsten Owen, Maartje Verhoef, Raquel Zimmermann, Sasha Pivovarova, Saskia de Brauw, Sung Hee Kim, and Vanessa Axente. Each of the women poses languidly for the camera while a voice-over describes attributes of some of the flowers. "Tiger lily," it says as Kravchenko stares directly into the camera. "Handle with care."

Steven Meisel directed the video, which is set to musician Moondog's "Stamping Ground." The song's militant drum line ads a quickening sense of purpose to a video that's feminist, unsettling, and beautiful to look at all at once.

Fashion's Biggest Names Get Animated For Barneys' Electric Holiday

Fashion Cartoons From Barneys & Disney Electric Holiday

Barneys won't debut anything from its holiday retail project until Wednesday, but stills from the coordinating film reveal a host of fashion people turned into cartoon characters.

In addition to the list of boldface names already included in Electric Holiday, the Disney animated film will feature animated versions of Linda Evangelista, Cathy Horyn, Daphne Guinness, Naomi Campbell, Franca Sozzani, Anna Dello Russo (at left), and Nicolas Ghesquière, among others. All of them participate in some way in Minnie Mouse's ultimate daydream: to walk down the runway during Paris Fashion Week.

The short film follows Minnie Mouse doing just that. After falling in love with a Lanvin dress she sees in a store window, Minnie Mouse slips into a reverie about wearing the dress in the City of Light. During her daydream, she stops to pose for Juergen Teller and Mario Sorrenti and rubs elbows with Carine Roitfeld.

A sneak peek at the film below, and a look at stills of all the fashion people here in the gallery.

Nicolas Ghesquière's Resort 2013 campaign video for Balenciaga is just as graceful and poetic as the ballet-inspired clothes he created for the season.

Nicolas Ghesquière's Resort 2013 campaign video for Balenciaga is just as graceful and poetic as the ballet-inspired clothes he created for the season. Director Steven Meisel asked models Caroline Brach Nielsen, Liya Kebede, Meghan Collison, and Liu Wen, among others, to walk through a dusty, rubble-filled set with Connan Mockasin's "Forever Dolphin Love" playing in the background. The rough setting underscores the tough femininity of the collection. A look at those pieces in motion here, in the video.

It's all but a game.

It's all but a game. At least it is in Prada's just-released Fall 2012 ad campaign video, where models Anne Vyalitsyna and Magdalena Frackowiak face off in a surreal game of chess. Watch as every move they make has life-sized consequences for fellow models (or pawns?) Elza Luijendijk, Iselin Steiro, Madison Headrick, and Vanessa Axente. Lensed by Steven Meisel.

Balenciaga Fall 2012 Ad Campaign

Don't let the cast of newbies — Juliet Ingelby, Rosie Tapner, Linn Arvidsson, Sophie Hirschfelder, and Anniek Kortleve — fool you. Balenciaga's Fall 2012 ad campaign is '80s glam-azing, all the way. The girls — dressed in Fall 2012's space-invader tops, big-shouldered jackets, and iridescent carrot pants — pose on windswept sand dunes while the darkly lit sky overhead creates a moody vibe.

The images will grace the pages of major magazines this Fall, but you can preview them right now in the slideshow.

Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls Cover W's July Issue

Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls Cover W Magazine July 2012

For its July issue, W Magazine has given rising stars Karlie Kloss and Joan Smalls each their own covers, dubbing them both "the new face of fashion."

It's a high honor for both models, who were shot by Steven Meisel for the magazine. At 6'1", Kloss has become one of the most recognizable personalities in the industry, and she admits her height helps. "Every time I see Karl Lagerfeld, he's always, like, 'Karlie, have you stopped growing yet? Are you taller?'"

Smalls, whose mother is Puerto Rican and whose father is black, has taken on the responsibility of representing women of color in fashion. "I know I'm representing a group — black, Latin, whatever you want to put me with — and I want to show that they are beautiful the way they are. I think that's really important for our youth to see," she says.

Take a look at what makes each cover girl in the gallery.

Revealed: Louis Vuitton's Fall 2012 Ad Campaign

Remember the $8 million, specially built locomotive Marc Jacobs sent barreling down the Fall 2012 Louis Vuitton runway?
Louis Vuitton Fall 2012 Ad Campaign

Remember the $8 million, specially built locomotive Marc Jacobs sent barreling down the Fall 2012 Louis Vuitton runway? It's back, and this time, it serves as the backdrop of the house's Fall 2012 ad campaign. "We wanted to continue the journey we started with the fashion show — the glamour of travel and the romance of going somewhere," Jacobs explained. To do so, the train was deconstructed and shipped to a New York studio where it was rebuilt, filled with models, and photographed by Steven Meisel. "We wanted to maintain the comfortingly luxurious and old-fashioned journey that the collection represented. Opulence, the brocades, the beautiful cuts of the suits, and I guess, the distant romantic glamour of travel," Jacobs said.
