As I counted them out — 17 striped shirts — I thought it might be time to address my obsession with the wardrobe staple now taking over my closet. From celebrities to street stylers, and designers, striped t-shirts are a mainstay in the fashion world. Maybe it all started with style greats like Coco Chanel, who famously adopted the nautical stripes of French fishermen as her own emblem of style. Now, we can't think of the classic pattern without drawing comparisons to icons like Audrey Hepburn or Jean Seberg, or present-day style setters like Alexa Chung and Olivia Palermo, who've given us even more ways to wear (and love) our striped t-shirts. Aside from the inspirational draw to nautical stripes, there's also a practicality to our obsession: they go with literally everything and lend a decidedly chic twist to just about anything we put on. They go day to night in a flash, span the test of time and seasons (though we're partial to nautical stripes in the summertime), and they're a totally universal buy. Sure, some striped tees are more pricey than others, but whether yours is H&M or Saint James, the effect is the same.
If you needed more encouragement to jump on the striped tee trend, look no further than Fab reader simpleness. She put together a totally chic daytime look with her tee, pairing it with skinny slouched khaki pants and brown lace-up boots. I love how her floral scarf mixes with the stripes, and the brown leather belt definitely brings it all together. Thanks for the inspiration — I know what I'm wearing tomorrow!

I never met a sequin I didn't like, or a breton stripe, for that matter. So, when the classic little stripes met sparkly sequins via this Alice + Olivia Sequin Stripe Tee ($385), I was giddy, until I caught wind of the price. Celebs may be able to afford this one, but not I . . .

Fess up: You have at least one Metro Man in your life. You know, the one that wears striped button down shirts like it's his religion, bulky rings on his thumb 'cause it's cool, and has cleaner cuticles than you. This not-so-macho man loves all things slick and trendy so why not satisfy his metrosexual desires this year? The next time someone compliments him on his pristine nails and stylish cuff links, he'll have you to thank!
Zeldaf looks very Kate Moss in her dark side of the moon outfit. Although we have been seeing stripes for a while now, Zeldaf keeps it current with fabulous leather pirate-like boots. I also dig the black zip up hoodie.
Here's the low down on her outfit:
- Cashmere Hoodie: Gap
- Striped Tank: American Eagle
- Black Jeans: J Brand
- Boots: Steve Madden
Congrats to Zeldaf!
