You can go a few ways with military: the slouchy, masculine route, the gamine route, or a more polished route, which is what Fab reader Lillian Vikki did. She rolled up slouchy chinos — better to show off those sexy black heels — and layered a long, rather sleek utilitarian shirt-dress that she's wearing as a jacket for a total chic military look. First of all, wherever Fab reader stylebysantina is, we would like to be, right now. Second, we love the way she mixes up tribal and utility trends for a chic and breezy vacation look that is laid-back but still feminine. Tying a safari shirt over a printed dress is a brilliant way to get more use out of a dress, and she elevates the shirt with a pretty necklace and gold cuff. We also applaud metallic flats: in a tropical paradise where flip flops are the norm, a little sparkle —and a real sole — is a nice touch.

This Fall 08, Vivienne Westwood showed a collection in which school children painted on the garments. Said to have been inspired by global warming, the children were meant to imagine a eco-warrior-like future. The prints came out beautifully, though we're sure the most abstract and vibrant among them were chosen for the collection. Overall, Vivienne Westwood Fall 08 was not your typical 'this is the bleak future' aesthetic that puts utility and/or deconstruction before, well, fun. Instead, it was a playful, colorful, wildly tailored (as always) collection with wearable pieces that give us something more Spring-like to wear in the Fall/Winter months.

The gentlemen behind the label Operations made that dream-sequence a reality, using utility-based garments as inspiration for their ready to wear line. American's are not known for their taste, nor their penchant for dress-up, so it's no wonder why Operations is thriving as a line who makes our fashion personality look good (yes, it's possible). Even Levi's, the purveyor of all things American, has teamed up with Operations for a Limited Edition collection. Hell, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em (in the end, even Kenny did).
