Tim Gunn is the prince of fashion TV. Unlike most of the other competitive reality shows out there, Tim serves as a mentor to the aspiring designers on our favorite show Project Runway. Tim is insanely smart, charming and defines "tough love" - he's like that really tough professor that ended up being your favorite one of all. With Season Four weeks away, I wanted to share Tim's 10 Fashion Essentials he shares with us via his show Tim Gunn's Guide to Style.

While I put together some Fab picks based on his list, I thought: we could do without a couple of these, and, where are the shoes and bags?! He supplies them to his disciples on Tim Gunn's Guide to Style but doesn't include them here. Alas, I put together a pretty thorough mini-wardrobe based on his recommendations. And remember, according to Tim: "It's all about owning your look. And when you do you navigate the world with great confidence. And what more could we want?"

I hope you all enjoyed the selections of fashion essentials from fashion gurus Tim Gunn and Nina Garcia. Hopefully it has also gotten you excited for the premiere of Project Runway Season 4 this Wednesday!

Ok, I have a confession to make: I have seen the first episode. Let me just say: the new contenders are thrown a curve ball on their very first challenge. You know how the first challenge is usually to work with scraps like recycled materials and funky junk? Heidi and Tim steer them in a total opposite direction. Try to decipher that. The result? The first elimination and a really good feel for who the strong contenders are. I have leaked enough...

Without further ado: Fab's 10 Essentials. Some of these are not new - I am sorry but no one can argue that a LBD, denim and a white shirt aren't classic. But I did mix things up. Hopefully you will enjoy a few fresh items that I feel can provide fabulous fashion fare everyday.

LBD
LRD. Everyone should watch out for a lady in red. Be that lady.
White Shirt.
Denim. I prefer dark denim; it's the most flattering and sophisticated.
A Classic Handbag. The Bottega dreams are made of.
A Cardigan. Heather grey goes with everything!
A Cuff. A statement.
Ballet Flats. Mix it up with an animal print.
Black Heels.
A Sexy Lingerie Set; it's what's underneath that also counts.

I shared my 10 Fall Essentials, but now realize it was a tad insensitive to dangle gorgeously expensive items at you when the economy is dire. To make up for it, I present the budget shopper's guide to Fall. It has similar items to my original list, only cheaper versions. You'll find nothing over $50. Does that sound good? Simply Fab: Kors Michael Kors Multi Zip Boot

There's good news and bad news. The good news: There's no boot dress code this Fall. It's pretty much anything goes in terms of heel height, over-the-knee, bootie - you name it, it's totally wearable. The bad news: this could lead to some manic dressing - crazily changing footwear at least 10 times before getting out the door.

The ever-practical Michael Kors has a solution. These Kors by Michael Kors Multi Zip Boots ($891) playfully combine function and fashion. Essentially, four boots in one. Fab Read: Tom Ford

I can go on and on about Tom Ford and his amazing achievements in fashion, like Carine Roitfeld did on CNN, but I'll let his infamous book, Tom Ford ($88), do all the showing and telling. This book isn't new, but it's a classic - 375 pages is essentially a 10-year resume of the envelope-pushing designer who once served as creative director for Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. Ford started out as Gucci's head in 2004 and when Gucci acquired Yves Saint Laurent, he was named the creative director of that house too. Get up close and personal with product shots, ads, runway photos, quotes, and celebrities, all from the Ford Gucci era.

The Top 10 Essentials, According to Nina Garcia

I just wrapped up Nina Garcia's Little Black Book of Style and it was a truly lovely read. It would make a great gift for any woman looking to up her style ante. It's easy to read, and easy on the eyes, and is full of juicy fashion learnings.

Last week I talked about the 10 fashion essentials, according to Tim Gunn and you all added your two cents. Well, Nina, being a Project Runway judge and fashion director at ELLE, has an opinion on the 10 essentials as well. You will notice quite a difference between hers and Tim's - although some items make both lists, ie. LBD, white shirt, cashmere and trench. Nina's essentials are a bit more womanly and include luxe accessories; the gal certainly has taste. And, as she puts it: "Go a little crazy. Be a little dramatic. Have a lot of fun." Amen.
