Tim Gunn is the prince of fashion TV. Unlike most of the other competitive reality shows out there, Tim serves as a mentor to the aspiring designers on our favorite show Project Runway. Tim is insanely smart, charming and defines "tough love" - he's like that really tough professor that ended up being your favorite one of all. With Season Four weeks away, I wanted to share Tim's 10 Fashion Essentials he shares with us via his show Tim Gunn's Guide to Style.

While I put together some Fab picks based on his list, I thought: we could do without a couple of these, and, where are the shoes and bags?! He supplies them to his disciples on Tim Gunn's Guide to Style but doesn't include them here. Alas, I put together a pretty thorough mini-wardrobe based on his recommendations. And remember, according to Tim: "It's all about owning your look. And when you do you navigate the world with great confidence. And what more could we want?"

Nutrition Myths That Can Cause Weight Gain

Myth: Going Vegan Will Make You Lose Weight
"While various research shows that vegetarians and vegans, on average, consume fewer calories and less fat than omnivores (a 2009 Oxford study found that vegetarians weigh 3 to 20 percent less than their meat-eating counterparts, and a National Cancer Institute study found that subjects who consumed four ounces or more of red meat weekly were 30 percent more likely to die of any cause than those who ate less), these numbers may be misleading," says Rania Batayneh, MPH, a certified nutritionist and owner of Essential Nutrition for You.

Going vegan solely for weight loss can backfire, big time. If you aren’t vigilant with a vegan diet, it’s easy to lack in vital nutrients, vitamins, and proteins, which give you energy and help keep your metabolism stoked. Many first-time vegans may also find themselves reaching for more processed foods like vegan cookies, chips, or even ‘ice cream’ more often with such a restricted diet, and many end up packing on the pounds instead.

If you do decide to adopt a vegan diet, be sure to keep the ‘treats’ to a minimum and plan balanced meals (we love ‘Domestic Vegan’ Diva Jessica Olson’s tips for "going veg"). "Aim to get about 10 to 20 percent of your calories from protein (or about 1 gram per kilogram of body weight), replacing animal protein with healthy plant proteins, like those found in beans, legumes, nuts, seeds, and soy products," Batayneh says. "And, whether you are vegan or not, eating more green, leafy vegetables is great for your health and your waistline."

Christian Cota Launches His Hiking-Inspired Collection With Aldo, Dishes on What Makes a Shoe Sexy

If you don't know Christian Cota, it's time to get acquainted with the mesmerizing up-and-coming designer. In addition to the CFDA picking Cota as a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Finalist, Cota has also garnered accolades from Style.com as one of its “10 Newcomers to Watch." Needless to say, everyone wants a piece of him - and now's your chance to get a little Cota in your life without the runway price tags. Christian Cota just launched a limited-edition boot collection for Aldo, showing off gorgeous mountain- and hiking-inspired pieces that will surely add that perfect rustic, yet luxe, touch to your Fall ensembles. "I really wanted to bring in all of the utilitarian elements, like the shin guards that can actually come on and off," said Cota. "I also wanted the color to be really rich, like this crimson. There was also a Tibetan influence as well. . . . It's the first time I decided to show very little stilettos [in my Fall runway show]. I wanted to offer something casual and comfortable this season." We love it all, especially the rad crimson red and brown combo with decadent pony hair details. Want to hear more? FabSugar: What makes a shoe sexy?
Christian Cota: It's all about how a woman feels when she wears the shoe. With the flats boots I designed, the models who wore them on the runway had a cooler confidence; they walked stronger and sexier. This season, sexy is about strength and toughness.

FS: Do you have a favorite style?
CC: I love the red [Laremont] pair, because it really catches my attention.

FS: What are three shoe styles every woman must own?
CC: A great pair of classic pumps, flat boots, and a really crazy pair of fashion-forward shoes, like ones with heavily constructed details, interesting materials, or amazing heels.
