Can you blame Michael Kors for drawing inspiration from Balenciaga's Fall collection for his 2009 Resort line? I can't. Nicolas Ghesquière's collection, especially this particular black cut-out dress on Natasha Poly, was so cutting edge, heck, I would be inspired by it if I were a designer.

The great John Galliano revealed his Cruise 2008 collection for Christian Dior on Monday night at 7 World Trade Center in New York City.
Talk about lots and lots of color and glitz! Waify but always beautiful models strutted down the crisp white runway in Indian-inspired tunics and jeweled head pieces.

Gucci's on a roll. First they come out with gorgeous fine jewelry ads with Drew Barrymore and now they hit us with a Cruise 2008 campaign featuring models Natasha Poly and Julien Ferre.
These ads stand out mainly due to the color scheme and the desert setting.

He's been at Nina Ricci a very short time, but Olivier Theysken's designs for the label have already been caught up in a whirlwind of hype - I'm thinking of the deal Anna Wintour's golden boy brokered with Reese Witherspoon for this year's award season, for instance.
For Cruise, Olivier carries over the blustery bluish-grey color scheme from his Fall 2007 Nina Ricci collection, as well as that asymmetrical dress silhouette which has treated him well. But the collection does have its hits and misses - I like the crocheted top and puffball skirt at left, but I'm not so sure about the color-washed footless tights.

Nothing comes between me and my Calvins - not this time, anyway! Francisco Costa did a wonderful job once again for Calvin Klein - the dresses are very body-conscious - yet minimal, the suits look comfy and well-cut, and the swimwear, well, there's one that's totally retro and cute!
But most of all, the thing I love about this collection is the colors.

You can't go wrong with black and white - that seems to be what Frida Giannini kept telling herself when she was designing the Gucci cruise collection. Because black and white the collection was, in all patterns, shapes, and forms. Slips of orange, green, yellow, and red punctuated the pieces and prevented it all from turning into a black and white blur.

Carolina Herrera, like Oscar de la Renta, keeps the country club-going ladies who lunch well-clothed throughout the cruise season. She interpreted the name of the season a bit literally - there's a sailor dress, as well as a poolchair-printed fabric used throughout the collection.
But I have to give it to her, she did stick to her staples: the dress, the pencil skirt, the swing coat.

Womenswear Designer of The Year, Oscar de la Renta has surely kept his favorite customers - the ladies who lunch and Anna Wintour - happy with this collection. There are plenty of fitted suits, floppy hats, party dress, and polka dots to go around.
I think my favorite look has to be this coral taffeta ruffled number, left, which is surprisingly similar to a J.

The Chanel Line has taken off and boy do I wish I were in flight. Karl presented a youthful Resort collection of colorful Chanel duds to the top of female Hollywood society and it looks like there is plenty to go around.
A mix of satin, stripes, sequins, tweed and denim gave way to a sometimes utilitarian sometimes completely feminine collection.

Japanese actress Rinko Kikuchi seems to have fallen in with the right crowd: the Karl Lagerfeld crowd.
He dressed her in Chanel all through the awards season earlier this year after she was Oscar nominated for her role in Babel, and now he's photographed her for the Chanel Cruise Accessories campaign. Rinko looks beautiful, and mysterious, and the same goes for those handbags she's holding — what do you think?
