I've been waiting for months to hear who the winner of V Magazine's V A Model! search is, and that day has come - it's Amanda Laine.

That name may not mean much to you now, but it will in the near future. The 16-year-old Canadian has wasted no time delving right into the industry. She's signed a three-year contract with Supreme Management and already walked the European Fall shows: Prada and Marni in Milan and Balenciaga and Givenchy in Paris. Not bad for a newcomer. An easy way to spot her is to look out for those thick, dark eyebrows. Welcome to the fashion circus, Amanda!

Mischa and Milla Do Fashion Week 80s Style

Mischa Barton and Milla Jovovich mugged for the camera at the Lou Doillon Party for Lee Cooper in Paris yesterday before hitting up the Miu Miu show today as part of Paris Fashion Week. Don't both girls look 80s-tastic with their off-the-shoulder and brightly colored outfits? And doesn't Mischa just look thrilled to be there? Smile! Milla may be partying it up fashion-style overseas but back in the states it was a big weekend - her Jovovich-Hawk line for Target officially hit stores.

Paris Fashion Week, Fall 2008: Chloe

After two seasons of bringing his own point of view to the house of Chloe, Paolo Melim Andersson delved back into the archives. Back to the floral-printed chiffon dresses when Karl Lagerfeld designed for the house in the '70s, and back to the floaty embroidery of Phoebe Philo earlier this decade.

Amidst a sea of navy, tufts of fur, sheer tunics, blazers, and riveted halter dresses were punctuated with ivory, teal, violet, and royal blue. Spats covered pointy heels, and embellishment was omnipresent. I like this collection and its femininity, but somehow I can't help feeling like Paolo took one step forward and two steps back.

Jessica Treats Baby to a Baguette in Paris

Ah, Paris - the Eiffel Tower, the fashion, the romance and ... the baguettes! Jessica Alba is a girl after my own heart, enjoying the fine food that the French have to offer during a break from all those fashion shows over the weekend. Taking a walk around an antique market in Clignancourt Puces, the pregnant actress kept it cool and casual (or should that be warm and casual, what with the scarf and hat combo?) in contrast to the fancy threads she wore to check out Fendi with Rihanna.

If you're a fan of Jessica's red carpet style then you'll be pleased to know that a high street version of the Marchesa number she wore to the Oscars should be available in the next 4-5 weeks at a much more wallet-friendly price than the original.

I wonder if Jessica picked up any pieces for the nursery during her stroll around the market? I guess antiques in a baby's room would be kind of odd, but there are plenty of other ways to pimp your crib ...

Paris Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2008: Sonia Rykiel

I must confess to having a particular soft spot for French designer Sonia Rykiel. Her designs are always so young, interesting and fun without being completely unwearable, this season is no exception. Paris Fashion Week came to a close yesterday marking the end of the major Autumn/Winter catwalk shows but I couldn't let it pass without showing you Rykiel's designs.

Much of the collection took inspiration from London's Pearly Kings and Queens, modernised with a shot of colour. These dresses were adorned with bright coloured buttons with sparkly round glasses to match. Later in the collection this was developed as bright applique was used to create pictures on shift dresses including what appeared to be an image of Chrissy Hynde! The possible image of Hynde nodded to the punk era and vintage styling.

Items drawing on a bright colour palette were teamed with super-high bright wedges and clashing socks. There were a few funky jumper dresses with colour-bleeding detail which continues this seasons Boho-Tech trend. They were cheery and provide the perfect way to brighten up a winter's day teamed with opaque tights and funky headwear.

Paris Fashion week favourite Irina Lazareanu appeared on the catwalk in an all in one shirt and dress playing with a bowler hat. She was wearing the colour purple which ran throughout the collection most notably on a funky loose bow tie. Tailored pieces in the line played with proportion using pockets and wide sleeves.

MK, Rihanna and Jessica Enjoy Kanye's FIRST Passion in Paris

Paris Fashion Week went out with a bang with this weekend's star studded front rows galore. Jessica Alba covered up her baby bump standing next to a much taller Rihanna to check out Fendi. You guys seemed pretty evenly split as to whether Amy Winehouse deserved the $1 million paycheck to perform for the runway show, but at least she showed up. Mary-Kate Olsen was out without her twinsie but still showed off that, um, quirky fashion sense in an aggressive studded leather jacket. Kanye and his fiancée Alexis were just there to have a good time and made sure to get right to his blog to talk about how fashion will always be his first love. So much for that rap thing.

Paris Fashion Week, Fall 2008: Giambattista Valli

The river runneth red at Giambattista Valli. Blood red. Billowing red evening gowns, protruding red crepe necklines, toweringly high red heels, and even a red fox fur cocoon coat were all flowing. When it wasn't red, it was white, or black, or ivory - with lots of protuberances. Tufts of fox fur hang from the back of an otherwise simple ivory sheath. Architectural ruffles, poufs, and anemone-like brooches embellish other notable pieces.

The collection as a whole was a play on volume; and when I say volume, I mean Giambattista really turned up the dial. There was nary a piece in sight without the addition of something bigger . . . but better? Well, I'll leave that verdict up to you.

Welcoming Karl With Folded Arms

Folded arms are usually associated with nonchalance and/or moodiness.

While it was somewhat surprising at first glance, it's not entirely shocking that Karl Lagerfeld had the models for his Fall '08 collection walk down the runway with folded arms. It's ironic that the robot-like designer was the one to encourage human qualities in his models.

You will see cue cards backstage telling models to smile and have fun, but you rarely see them mentioning arm movements. It's about time they put those long limbs to use! Karl's girls - Anja Rubik (right), Natasha Poly, Isabeli Fontana, Raquel Zimmermann, Ali Stephens, and Karlie Kloss - all did just that and brought some real-life emotions to the otherwise stiff clothes. So is folding arms a new catwalking trend? I guess we'll have to wait and see . . .

Olsens and Kanye Love Themselves Some Chanel

Paris Fashion Week rolls on and Karl Lagerfeld didn't go with understated to show off the new collection for Chanel - check out the big show here. Some of his favorite little celebrity munchkins were out to see the show, like the Olsens who wore those Willy Wonka sunglasses and got a big hug from Karl. Kanye's puffy vest and Alexis also came out for the show as did Rihanna fresh from her Ireland show. Leave it to Chanel to bring out the big names.

Paris Fashion Week, Fall 2008: Chanel

The house of Chanel has gone back to its roots. The carousel-ignited runway was awash with varicolored tweeds, black, denim, chains, and knits - quintessential Chanel. And there were all shades and treatments of Karl's favorite color: black tweed, black leather, black knits, black stockings, black jeweled berets. But, Karl never lets black bore.

To shake things up - and to keep catering to the youthquake of Hollywood, including show attendees, the Olsens - minis were every which where. As well, a rubberized leather dress and Matisse-like patterned vinyl brought a bit of the '80s back to the Chanel runway. The finale dresses even showed some leg and texture, and had dramatic cascading capes. All, will keep the drama-hungry youth happy.

Paris Fashion Week, Fall 2008: Valentino

Now that Valentino has officially stepped down, succeeding designer Alessandra Facchinetti made her catwalk debut for Fall.

Compared to the pale pastels, bright zings of color, and oodles of ruffles Valentino has infused into his designs the last couple of seasons, Alessandra's work lacked a little of the label's joie de vivre. It could be the more subdued, Fall-appropriate color palette of navy, neutrals, blush, and mustard giving off that impression, but the keen attention to detail wasn't there. It was definitely a safe first collection, but there were hints of good things to come - the requisite Va-Va red was in place. Besides, taking over a label after 45 years under the helm of one man is not a position I envy.

Modeling Takes Beauty . . . and Mad Skills

Who says models are all beauty and no brains? Okay, I can't vouch for their brains, but I can prove that they have some mad skills. Wearing what looks like a suffocating bag around your face and having to walk down a long runway takes precision. Many models trip, even without such an obstacle, so I give the models who walked the Junya Watanabe Fall '08 show in Paris some respect. It looks like Paris and London, namely the shows of Watanabe, Maison Martin Margiela, Rick Owens, and Gareth Pugh, proved to be the most taxing for the models. Then again, signing on to work with such avant-garde designers, they probably expected a bit (okay, a lot) of craziness. Could you do it?

Paris Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2008: Stella McCartney

This season, Paris Fashion Week has contained a slightly controverisal level of fur (for example, Jean Paul Gaultier). Obviously Stella McCartney was not one to conform sticking to her morals and creating her usual vegan line. However, that was probably the only 'usual' element of her Autumn/Winter collection which saw McCartney venturing in to new ground.

It was a bit hit and miss with elements of McCartney's best work, namely tailoring, mixed in with a few pieces which appeared to be slightly out of place, for example a shapeless, shield emblazoned dress. There were very definitive section as the collection did not flow together well. Highlights include a section with a very sensual feel which involved uber-short mini dresses in lace, and peekaboo chiffon. Jessica Stam made an appearance in a beaded mini-dress with off the shoulder detailing.

There were also a couple of beautifully tailored trapeze dresses in chiffon with brocade detailing which were very delicate and feminine in a typical McCartney style. Her Spring/Summer collection is one of my favourite for that season so I can't help feeling a little disappointed with this one, what do you think?

Paris Fashion Week, Fall 2008: Balenciaga

Structure, rubber, and slits: That's what Balenciaga Fall 2008 is made of.

Although the collection had continuity from previous seasons - cocoon-shaped jackets, cropped fitted pants, and greyscale color - surprises still abounded. Pearl-encrusted and rhinestone costume jewelry draped around necklines and wrists, deconstructed velvet bandage tops popped in primary colors, and hand-painted warrior armor closed the show.

But oh, the shoes! Silver on black pointy toe heels, white booties with sheer latex fluttering off the back and stilted square lucite heels all stole my heart.

This collection is definitely a more pared-down group than Nicholas Ghesquiere has sent down the runway in the past, but that's not to say that it doesn't deserve less attention . . .

Cavalli Parties with Kanye at the Opening of his Paris Store

Last week Cavalli revealed his plans for World domination which began last night with the launch of his Just Cavalli store in Paris. The party was part of Paris Fashion Week which is currently taking place in the French Capital.
Celebrities such as Dita von Teese, and Kanye West with his wife Alexis Phifer were on hand to help him party, although it looks like he's having enough fun on his own! Cavalli dressed a number of women for the Oscar's red carpet including Kelly Preston, Jennifer Hudson and Heidi Klum. The new store is at 50, Rue Faubourg St Honoré, Paris.

Paris Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2008: Jean Paul Gaultier

Dressing the winner of Best Actress at the Oscars is pretty much an award in itself and one that went to French enfant terrible Jean Paul Gaultier this year for his beautiful mermaid gown. The designer did not rest of his laurels for a moment, presenting his Autumn/Winter collection in Paris last night.

Gaultier is famous for his controverisal designs and this season he chose nature as his inspiration using furs, skins and even stuffed animal details on his collection. Two of the jackets in the line are animal themed, namely zebra and tiger, and feature replicas on the animal around the collar. There was almost an uncomfortable amount of fur in the range which was accompanied on the catwalk by a mixture of Michael Jackson's Thriller and the sound of lambs bleeting.

This seems to be Gaultier's take on this season's tribal trend but despite that there were a couple of key pieces that sans the excessive headwear were quite cute, including a red scaley mini-dress and a gold maxi evening dress. Do you think that Gaultier has taken it too far this time, or is that simply his creativity?

Paris Fashion Week, Autumn/Winter 2008: Balmain

Balmain designer Christophe Decarnin certainly knows how to make a woman look and feel her sexiest. I can't help but think that his Fall '08 collection has hints of Roberto Cavalli in it. Animal prints dominated, as did metallics and sequins. Floor-length, one-shoulder frocks took center stage, thanks to slits that creeped up for days. Leather jodhpurs and fringe moccasins added an eclecticism to the mix. Christophe seems to really appreciate legs, so ladies who love theirs should take note. Hey, if you've got them, flaunt 'em!

Paris Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2008: Vivienne Westwood

You're never really sure what to expect from a Dame Vivienne Westwood collection. Her show in London a few weeks ago was surprisingly tame and despite the occasional placard wasn't too political. This show, which was presented in the French capital last night contained plenty of references to Westwood's Eco concerns.

Much of the collection was adorned with doodles which were designed by pupils at the Portland School in Nottingham (she is due to open a store in the city this year). The children were under strict direction from Westwood who initially lectured the children on global-warming then asked them to design clothing for a society of jungle-dwelling eco-warriors.

There's a very child-like feel to the collection, which is not surprising but it conveys Westwood's playfulness with fashion. Highlights included a beautiful maxi cut out dress that surely will appear on a red carpet at some point, and a model on stilts in a pin stripe suit. The doodle prints are a great idea and something which will possibly translate well to the High Street.

Paris Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2008: Christian Dior

Over the weekend Paris Fashion Week began for another season as the last major fashion week for Autumn/Winter '08. Paris is often the most exciting of the fashion capitals has it presents some of the biggest names including Chanel, Stella McCartney and Christian Dior. Dior is one of the first major players to show, it's always exciting to see what amazing designs John Galliano creates.

Today Galliano took inspiration from Barbie dolls producing a show of models with big hair, dramatic make-up and pretty party dresses. The collection drew from a varied palette of mainly bright shades, there was plenty of golden embellishment on head bands and sleeve cuffs. There were '70s style leather suits teamed with wide-rim hats and matching gloves. What do you think of the collection? Is it too much?
