Demi's always polished. And seriously - the woman looks better than ever. This week was a whirlwind with the Inauguration and the Sundance Film Festival so we had continuous style stimulation. But sometimes an LBD rules all. Demi looked excellent at MTV's Ball in her strapless, ruffled Donna Karan frock. The wavy bodice and skirt detail are what really make this dress standout; it's such a lively formal option. Talk about a modern classic. Her long brunette locks look fabulously laid back, but her Cartier diamonds keep things black tie. Satin black platform pumps keep things grounded, while her handsome partner in crime continues to be her mancessory of choice.

Should Michelle Obama Be Supporting African American Designers?

With just a couple days into her reign as the First Lady, Michelle Obama is already starting to feel the pressures of her position. Amnau Eele, former model and co-founder of the Black Artists Association, is filing a formal appeal to the First Lady’s office on behalf of the BAA. The charge? They're mad at her for not wearing anything by an African American designer at her inaugural appearances.

“It’s one thing to look at the world without color but she had seven slots to wear designer clothes. Why wasn’t she wearing the clothes of a black designer? That was our moment,” said Eele. There's no doubt the First Lady has a lot of responsibilities to uphold but should her fashion choices be one of them?

The abundance of balls brought out a slew of celebs to the East Coast looking pretty and proper in their celebratory gear. One of my faves was Anne Hathaway wearing a ravishing red gown by Dior. Fab Blab: Jason Wu Is Still on Pins and Needles

I caught him on the Today show this morning - hence the tardiness to work today - and Teen Vogue nabbed some time with the first lady designer extraordinaire, Jason Wu. We all agree Michelle looked fantastic in his white flower appliqué gown last night. Swoon.

In this Teen Vogue exclusive, Wu shared that he's "been on pins and needles for two months. I made the dress in November, and flew to Chicago with it over Thanksgiving. I was like, I'm delivering this myself! I didn't want anyone else touching it! But I really didn't know she'd be wearing it until I saw her on TV last night, just like everyone else. I dropped everything when she walked out. And, yes, I did cry a little bit. It's an incredible moment for me, but also for this country. We're starting with a clean slate." Didn't we all cry a little bit?

First Lady Style: Michelle Obama in Isabel Toledo

Yellow. Lemongrass, to be exact. It's a known fact that yellow is an uplifting, optimistic color. What better choice, then, for the new first lady for the swearing-in ceremony this morning. While her tots wore colorful J.Crew Crewcuts (so cute), Michelle continued the delight in a custom Isabel Toledo coat and dress. The Cuban-born designer did not know this would be Michelle's choice today - imagine the designer's delight.The delicious design was quite luxurious, made of Swiss wool lace, backed with netting for warmth, and lined in pale pink French silk. About the cheery color, “I wanted to pick a very optimistic color, that had sunshine,” Toledo said. Michelle didn't stop the color there. Her olive green leather gloves and teal Jimmy Choo shoes were unexpected additions. I know everyone is comparing Michelle to Jackie O, but Jackie would definitely approve of this. What I adore most about Michelle's look is the texture, the slight overall sparkle, and fancy neckline. Not in a long while has a first lady experimented with color, texture, and embellishments.

First Lady Style: Michelle Obama in Narciso Rodriguez and Loree Rodkin

It's official - Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States! While celebrites continue to pledge their allegiance, the fashion world's eyes are on First Lady Michelle Obama. Let's discuss her savvy choice for the We Are One concert on Sunday.She decided on one of her American favorites: Narciso Rodriguez. Michelle is quite secretive about her fashion choices - most designers don't know about them in advance and are overjoyed when they see their goods worn by the First Lady on TV. But Narciso created two custom looks for Michelle's pre-inauguration festivities.

This black and camel coat and separate combo was subtly striking. To avoid being too conservative, Michelle wore a bold pair of white gold and diamond quatrefoil Loree Rodkin chandelier earrings with black diamond center. Not surprising, the stunning earrings cost $17,313. But back to her perfectly coordinated Narciso ensemble. It was smart, didn't upstage Obama, and flattered the First Lady. I like that she opted for separates instead of a simple shift; it created dimension. A woman after my own heart, the bejeweled neckline of her black blouse added a touch of pizazz. Michelle polished the look off with patent pumps and black leather gloves but ditched any sort of hosiery - this Lady is modern, indeed.

Fab Flash: 2009 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Winners Announced

The recipients of Ecco Domani's 2009 Fashion Foundation awards have been announced. The womenswear category winners are Lyn Devon, Matthew Ames, Cushnie et Ochs by Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, and Ohne Titel by Alexa Adams and Flora Gill. Corpus, by Jerrod Cornish and Keith Richardson, took the honor in menswear, and jeweler Monique Péan received the prize in the accessories group.

In addition, Bodkin Brooklyn designers Eviana Hartman and Samantha Pleet were granted an inaugural award for sustainable design. Each emerging label will receive a $25,000 grant towards their show at NY Fashion Week in February. They join the list of past beneficiaries, which includes Alexander Wang, Zac Posen, and Rodarte. Congratulations to all - we can't wait to see more from these talented designers!
