Nicolas Ghesquière may have delivered some silky, shouldery Dynasty-esque dresses in his Fall collection, but the '80s references stop there. Plus, I kinda love the dresses . .

Another day another bag obsession. Well gang, today it's not just one, but the entire Fall/Winter 2006 collection from Balenciaga. I think the most notable thing about this collection, aside from the beautiful designs, are the amazing rich Fall colors.

What do tweeds, tie dye and track pants have in common? Nicolas Ghesquière's Fall 2007 Balenciaga collection. At first glance I thought this was a doomed hodge podge of ideas but after viewing the whole presentation I was elated by the intriguing mixmastering.

Structure, rubber, and slits: That's what Balenciaga Fall 2008 is made of.
Although the collection had continuity from previous seasons — cocoon-shaped jackets, cropped fitted pants, and greyscale color — surprises still abounded. Pearl-encrusted and rhinestone costume jewelry draped around necklines and wrists, deconstructed velvet bandage tops popped in primary colors, and hand-painted warrior armor closed the show.

Jennifer Connelly is back as the Balenciaga muse. For Spring '08 she was standing proud, she sat out two seasons, and for Fall she's sprawled out on a couch. Many are commenting that her pose this time around is awkward and too sexy for the house, but I think her pose last time was equally stiff and awkward.

I've always thought of actress and daughter of Jane Birkin Charlotte Gainsbourg as a cool girl, but not as a model. Still, the best friend of Balenciaga designer Nicolas Ghesquiere has been chosen as the newest face of the house's Fall '08 advertisements. This is not the first time Charlotte has taken a stab at modeling, though; she was once the face of French handbag line Gerard Darel.

If Spring dabbled in statement necklaces, Fall was a full-on neck fest. Nay a dainty necklace here, a dainty necklace there; yay layers of chunky chains (Givenchy), costumey rhinestones (Balenciaga), jagged Swarovski crystals (Burberry), mixed media (Lanvin), and antique Indian masterpieces (McQueen).
The most innovative was perhaps Dries Van Noten (left), who fashioned his super-colorful, and no doubt super-heavy, neck pieces out of other jewelry items: ethnic bangles.

UPDATE: Jennifer Connelly has once again been chosen by Nicolas Ghesquière to represent Balenciaga. Meanwhile, Stefano Pilati picked Christy Turlington to star in his Yves Saint Laurent campaign.
I know, Spring has just begun, but the fashion world is always a step, or should I say a season, ahead of the masses.

Our Pre-Fall preview continues with cozy collections from the likes of Emanuel Ungaro, Moschino, Balenciaga, Lanvin, Nina Ricci, Proenza Schouler, and Matthew Williamson. Purples and blues dominate along with the occasional pop of pink. I'm lusting over Ungaro's sexy sliced animal print mini dress, seen left.

I know everyone has Spring fever, but I'm obsessing on the Fall collections. A fashion junkie just can't help herself. I won't get too heavily into what's in store for Fall, yet, but I will bring you some things I've been itching to share.
