If anyone can tell an uplifting fashion story, it's Barneys. The retailer established its niche as the fun-loving purveyor of high fashion long ago, and its marketing efforts mirror this. While I always smile when I find a J.Crew catalog in my mailbox, a Barneys catalog warrants an even warmer welcome. Feast on Fall's forward offerings, as worn by Anja Rubik, Suvi Koponen, and the delicious Catherine McNeil in a killer red dress. Freaky or Fabulous: Barneys' Bloody Window Display

If you happened to walk by Barneys New York on Madison Avenue earlier this week, this is one of the gory window displays you would have seen. Both A.L.C.'s and Helmut Lang's windows, featuring dying mannequins and splattered fake blood, appalled most passersby. Creative director Simon Doonan is usually the one that approves window displays, but he says he was away overseeing advertising shoots when they were installed. The displays were ordered to come down as soon as Doonan heard. Do you think it's freaky or still fabulous?

Fab Flash: Coco Rocha Stars in a Barneys Tale

The quirky mastermind is at it again. Barneys New York Creative Director Simon Doonan has just enlisted Coco Rocha to play the main character in his tale, “Emma’s Dilemma,” in its Fall catalog.

So what's the dilemma? The entertaining scenario has Emma wanting everything - Christian Louboutin, Lanvin, Valentino, Manolo Blahnik, and the list goes on and on. A snippet from the story reads, "Making decisions has never been my strong point. When faced with a chocolate eclair or a macaroon, I dither and procrastinate and end up nibbling on both” says Emma.

“The theme is, ‘Oh just buy both.' Embedded in there is permission to be a little self-indulgent. It’s a bit of glamorous self-indulgence” said Doonan.

“I thought women could relate to this story" said Doonan. Yes, Simon, I concur.

I don't have to tell you that when there's a sale at Barneys, it's best to just take a look. I mean, how can you not not look?! I must confess my envy of those Louboutin lovers who were lucky enough to meet the famed shoe designer at the launch of his new 2008 Fall collection at the Barneys-hosted event in Beverly Hills. I would seriously die for a pair of Louboutin's uncompromisingly gorgeous confections.

On top of being able to view his new creations, fans were able to meet Christian and even have their precious Loubs signed by the designer himself. Doesn't he look like a friendly guy? Lucky ducks!

On Our Radar: Target Temporarily Moves Into Barneys

Barneys New York on Madison in NYC and in Los Angeles are temporarily making room for Target merchandise. Starting this Friday until Sunday in NYC, and then May 16 until May 18 in LA, fans of Target's Go International collections can purchase Rogan for Target, priced between $15 and $45.

Before you get all confused about this seemingly odd relationship, keep in mind that Barneys sells Rogan Gregory's primary lines, Loomstate and Loomstate for Barneys Green. Knowing that, the relationship doesn't seem so far fetched. There will be a 3-piece limit per customer, but those who miss out can head to their local Target when the collection lands on May 15.

This sudden relationship is attributed to the fact that both Target and Barneys are feeling the consequences of the recent economic downturn. I hope things get better soon but in the meantime, I'm a fan of this friendship!
