A Fabby Halloween: Bat Ears

It's a sign. I'm trying to decide on my pup Annabelle's Halloween costume, and after a weekend of pet store perusing, we're leaning toward these adorable bat wings. Since my little Frenchie is black, the black bat wings looked so simple and chic. Then, today I find these Giles & Brother Tiny Bat Studs ($78). Done and done. If you've decided to go costume-free this Halloween, can I beg you to be a wee festive and indulge in these or some other spooky jewels?

Model Muse: Twiggy

You didn't have to be conscious in the '60s to know Twiggy. The famed model, full name Twiggy Lawson, made her mark in the modeling scene during the free-love era, capturing everyone with her waif-like figure, pixie haircut, and big baby blues. All it took was one eyelash bat and I was smitten. Her mod appeal took America by storm, influencing others to draw in fake lower eyelashes, tote lunch boxes, and wear tights and sweaters. The cool thing about Twiggy is that she still inspires others with her personal style and quirk. Her modeling hay-day may have lasted only a decade, but her essence continues to make an iconic dent in the fashion world. Did you know she's also an award-winning singer? Awesome. Welcome the Cast of Project Runway, Season 5

We're taught not to judge a book by its cover, but when you're an unknown fashion designer, all you have is your cover and a mini bio. As we prepare to welcome the new hopefuls of Project Runway into our homes this Wednesday, the three I'm drawn to right off the bat are Emily (left), who worked with Jeremy Scott; Wesley (center), the sharpest dresser from the guys; and Leanne (right), who graduated from FIDM in San Francisco.

If you wish, you can read more in depth about all the contestants. We have yet to see who does the most innovative work, but it's safe to assume that those who look fashion-forward will most probably prove that in their work. I hope, like last season, my predictions are somewhat right. And who knows, since many of the males are not so dashing, maybe we'll have a female winner!

Celebrity Style: Mary-Kate Olsen

In last week's CelebStyle Smarts quiz, most of you knew the difference between Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's style. Go you! As exemplified here, MK is the sister that doesn't mind looking a little tousled, and we appreciate her for that. The vintage Halston black bat-wing caftan she wore to the Late Show is floaty and flirty. She accentuated her tiny waist with a studded belt and fancied her feet with a pair of Louboutin pumps. Of course, she couldn't leave home with her signature small round sunnies.

Who Wore It Better? Bohemian Balmain Dress

It's almost as though Balmain's bohemian dress was made for Kate Hudson at the SAG awards, so it's hard to imagine anyone else wearing it. But alas, Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon showed up to the amfAR event at Cannes Film Festival in the same dress. Right off the bat, it's obvious Tamara got spray tanned, so the color palette is very different. She also has more chunky jewelry than Kate. To me, Kate is more believable in boho, but who do you say wore it better?

Fab Flash: Elle Magazine Editors to Guest Star on Ugly Betty

Just as former Elle fashion director Nina Garcia prepares for a guest appearance this Thursday on Ugly Betty, the announcement comes that more Elle editors are joining in on the ugly fun.

Elle Editor in Chief Robbie Myers and creative director Joe Zee will appear on the season finale of the show, which features a charity softball game between Elle and the fictitious Mode magazine. Myers and Zee will both be up to bat on the episode, wearing the uniform at left, and Naomi Campbell is set to play Elle's designated hitter. Sounds like the season is going to wrap with a home run!

Top one of these off with a pencil skirt or your favorite pair of skinnies and get ready to bat those eyelashes. You can sex one up with a fun pair of cork heels or you can tone one down with a pair of chic flip flops. Bustier girls beware: I would say if you are larger than a C cup these aren't for you. Cleavage is a beautiful thing, but you don't want to send the wrong message!

Grammys Red Carpet Trend: Glitterati

I had a feeling that since it was the Grammys we would be treated to some over the top fashions and I was right! The first trend I noticed off the bat was glitterati. Everyone was sparkling! We all know metallics are a huge trend and it is so very red carpet worthy. Petra Nemcova looked like a femme bot in her silver metallic mini dress while Paula Abdul chose a sequin-paneled gown by Valentino. I rather liked Hilary Duff's gold and black Dolce & Gabbana sequined slip dress that most of you hated!

The 411 on Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions are all the rage. Everyone in Hollywood is getting them, and NYC's most fabulous socialites swear by them. With so many brands advertised on the market now, here's some helpful information to read up on before you invest in a pair of your own.

Eyelash extensions are applied to your natural eyelashes with a bonding agent, such as an adhesive or permanent glue. Having a full set applied takes about two hours. They are safe to wear with contact lenses; you can sleep, swim, and spa in them; and they're not so long that you'll be batting into your sunglasses every time you blink.
