Fab Finding Follow-Up: Bookworm Babes

My friends and I started an informal book club so we can rant and rave about wonderful books. Of course I want to look Fab for our first meeting. I asked you to help me put together something comfortable and smart.

My friends and I have started an informal book club so we can rant and rave about the wonderful books we've read. Of course I want to look Fab for our first meeting. Can you help me put together something comfortable and smart-looking?

Lauren Conrad's Literary Journey Continues

Who knew LC was going to go from The Hills to fashion design back to The Hills and then into the literary world? Works for me. Now that the ex-Hills star has more time on her hands, she has added another project to her budding book club. LA Candy was released earlier this year, and next year we have a style guide to listen to. Titled Lauren Conrad Style, the fashion guide is slated for Fall 2010. Conrad shared: "I think fashion should be fun and reflective of who you are," she says. "I know this guide will offer simple, practical tips to help anyone look fabulous." Plus, LA Candy's sequel Sweet Little Lies in due out Feb. 2. Thoughts?

Look of the Day: Cold-Weather Clubbing

Last Friday, before my night out with the girls, I asked you guys to come Fab Finding with me to put together a cold-weather clubbing outfit. TeamSugar's Fab Finders found some great pieces, but I simply must show off this sparkly sweater ensemble that one of my friends put together for the occasion.

I love how she layers the slouchy, metallic cardigan over the glittery black shirt, which you can see through to the pink top underneath. However, the magenta suede boots over the gray skinny jeans really tie it all together, don't you think? I think it deserves the honor of TeamSugar Look Book Look of the Day. Fab Read: Junky Styling, Wardrobe Surgery

Those of us who can't stop into London's Junky Styling boutique should try the next best thing: the new book, Junky Styling: Wardrobe Surgery ($32), by founders Annika Sanders and Kerry Seager. First read about the store's unique history and its forward-thinking founders - Annika and Kerry started out making clothes to wear to clubs in the early '90s. Then learn how to re-create some of their popular garments: a shirt wrap halter top, a scarf made from suit sleeves, and so on. Get your tools ready and start performing surgery on those clothes that need a little nip/tuck.

Fab Read: Ruffian, Inside Out

Want to know how a book comes to fruition? Well, at least in Ruffian designers Brian Wolk and Claude Morais's case? Step one, bump into photographer Jamie Isaia at the National Arts Club: "We started talking and told her we loved her work and that we should do something creatively together. It became a one-year project, and she documented our creative process," according to Wolk. Next, meet Martine Assouline, co-founder and co-publisher of Assouline publishing house, and have her look at the 2,000 or so pictures Isaia took. Then, have Style.com executive editor Nicole Phelps agree to pen the book and voila!

Ruffian: Inside Out ($19) chronicles Ruffian's creative process for their Spring and Fall 2008 collections, from initial sketch through fabric research, to fittings and the runway show. The irony is that Wolk and Morais have less than a decade of experience yet already have a book. Impressive.

Fab Read: Misshapes

If ever there was a time to not judge a book by its cover, this is it. This bland design does not do justice to the eccentricities inside.

Allow me to guide you through the world of MisShapes by Geordon Nicol, $17. It houses a collection of fashion portraits from 2002-2007 taken in MisShapes' night club in New York City. Looks range from punk rockers to artists, downtown kids to musicians, DJs and even celebrities like Agyness Deyn and Chloe Sevigny. There are over 2,000 images so plenty to draw inspiration from!

Side note: I attended a MisShapes party a few years ago and I must say, while the music was bumpin', so was the crowd - literally. It was super over crowded. I know it was the club-to-be but that doesn't mean one shouldn't practice occupancy allowance. They could learn from Studio 54's infamous door policy. Just saying.

Look of The Day: Neutral Chic

Some girls do love their vintage, especially vintage furs. I happen to be a part of that club along with partysugar. I know there is fur controversy out there, but don't take it out on partysugar! Regardless, she looks neutral chic here in NYC. Love the nonchalant hobo bag worn with the jacket open - she's ready to shop!
