Milan Fashion Week, Fall 2008: Burberry Prorsum

Three things to take away from Burberry Prorsum's Fall '08 collection: dramatic coats, statement necklaces and knit beanies. The talented Christopher Bailey yet again injected a kick of cool to the once-conservative brand, and also showed serious frocks and metallic pants. The overall vibe was sophisticated grunge, with moody hues like taupe, grey, and midnight blue. Sticking with the edgy Burberry vibe, studded bags and bracelets complemented the clothes. Minus the silly beanies and oversized coats, I'd rock (and roll) all the pieces in this collection.

Glammies Nominees Impress At Photography Show

Glamour was the name of the game at the National Portrait Gallery on Monday evening, when stars young and old from TV, radio and music came out in force for the Burberry and Vanity Fair Portraits Opening Night. It's good to see the ladies making an effort on the fashion front, since this highly anticipated exhibition includes a selection of historic images by such renowned fashion photographers as Annie Leibovitz, Cecil Beaton and Mario Testino.

Emma Watson, who built on her style status in a gold Burberry dress, smiled wide thanks to the news she's nominated in the category of UK TV Actress in Glamour Women Of the Year Awards for her performance in Ballet Shoes. Her fellow Glammies nominee Lily Allen (who's up for Best Solo Artist) also attended the event, creating a full day of fashion having attended the PPQ show earlier in the day. Doing it for the boys, a handsome and tanned Will Young continued to get his fill of fashion-related goodness, having just flown back from New York Fashion Week.

Fab Flash: Stars Dress up in Burberry for Vanity Fair Portraits Private View

This evening was the launch of the highly anticipated Vanity Fair Portraits exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London. The exhibition is sponsored by British fashion house, Burberry. Many stars turned up for the event including Johnny Borrell, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, Twiggy, Emma Watson and supermodel Erin O'Connor, to name a few! Many of them (including Emma and Donna Air) were wearing the latest Spring dresses by Burberry. The exhibition will include a selection of historic images from 1913 – 2008 taken by the World's most famous photographers including. Mario Testino, Annie Leibovitz, and Cecil Beaton. The exhibition opens to the public on Valentines Day.

When it comes to the models - Agyness Deyn and Lily Donaldson - Burberry's Spring/Summer '08 ads are playing the same game as last Fall. But when it comes to color, it's a whole new world. Unlike the previous black and white ads, photographer Mario Testino shot the latest campaign in color. And what vibrant colors indeed! This reflects "a very colorful collection and a younger mood at Burberry," a spokesman for the brand said. Although black and white photography has its allure, I am loving this fresh side of Burberry. It's hot, hip, and makes me want to jump into the picture. Do you agree?

On Our Radar: Burberry Fine Jewelry

Burberry is releasing its first formal collection of jewelry for Spring! Set to carry the same luxury warrior theme as the Spring ready-to-wear collection - think lots of metal and Perspex - a full assortment of necklaces, rings, bracelets, bangles, and cuffs is planned. The color palette focuses on dark nickel, black lacquer, and brass, and detailing includes studs, chains, and Celtic medal shapes.

The jewelry runs $195-$1,595 and will be in both Burberry flagship stores and Burberry.com come Spring.

Milan Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Burberry Prorsum

I absolutely adored Burberry Prorsum's Spring collection. Christopher Bailey is proving to be the smart choice to revive the classic brand. So I was excited to see what Fall would look like...

At first I saw: dark and tough, which was a bit frightening. Inspired by the Prorsum knight, I definitely see medieval references. Metallics looked like shimmering armor, reptilian gloves looked downright creepy and the models looked ready for battle. Then, the collection softened, delivering absolutely fabulous outerwear. Mostly belted, there were deconstructed and reconstructed trenches, sporty parkas and stadium jackets. Mini post it pleats and ruffles added a much needed trickle of femme. A couple of surprises were a pretty leafy print and a dusty violet color. Here's a collection based on old ideas that managed to look to the future.
