No, it's not Halloween quite yet, but last night Carine Roitfeld's book party gave good cause for her fashionable friends to suit up in appropriately dark costumewear. In honor of the book, aptly titled Irreverent, Paris Fashion Week's style crowd gathered in a slew of velvet, Gothic gowns, ghoulishly deep eye makeup that went far beyond the smoky eye, and an array of tongue-and-cheek apparel that humored Roitfeld's theme perfectly. With Halloween right around the corner, we're feeling particularly inspired by the decadently devilish looks. Some played it safer than others - Kanye, we're looking at you - but Carine, Ciara, Anja Rubik, and lots more embraced the call to otherworldly glamour with capes, crimson lips, and in some cases, a hint of (fake) blood. Carine Roitfeld and Iggy Pop: Dopplegangers and Future Collaborators?

Carine Roitfeld sat down with the Financial Times in a remarkably candid interview that touched upon her future plans - styling the Barneys Fall windows and catalog, her fallout with current French Vogue editor Emmanuelle Alt, Anna Wintour's "first lady" status, the thing she hates most in fashion (hint, it's a shoe style), and her doppelganger. Here's an amusing excerpt from the article:

"[Carine] hopes to "celebrate herself" by recruiting someone to be involved [in the Barneys' project] who looks rather a lot like her: Iggy Pop. “People always say, ‘You look like Iggy Pop,'" she says, apparently unconcerned by the comparison to a rather grizzled-looking, 64-year-old man. “I don’t know if it’s the eyes or the hair, anyway, he has a great style.”

Carine Roitfeld Announces Her First Project After Leaving Vogue Paris

After much speculation regarding who, what, or where Carine might be heading to after leaving Vogue Paris, Roitfeld has finally announced her next gig as a guest editor, muse, and stylist for Barneys New York's multifaceted Fall 2011 initiative. "For me, Barneys has always been the biggest name in luxury department stores, so to be able to participate in this project with them, and be visible during the next fashion week in New York, is my dream come true," said Roitfeld. "To a French girl, it's a big, big dream."

In addition to styling and editing Barneys's advertising campaign - which will be shot by her close colleague Mario Sorrenti - catalog, and Fall mailers, Roitfeld will play a part in styling Barneys's famous Madison Avenue windows, set to unveil in September. Barneys customers will also be treated with a short Sorrenti-shot film, showing them a more personal side of Roitfeld highlighting her views on fashion and style. "Barneys is about a sense of surprise and discovery, and Carine is a reminder that fashion needs a sense of the unexpected," said Mark Lee, Barneys CEO.
