Angelina and Brad Design High-End Jewelry With Asprey

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have tackled a lot together - namely, a growing family. A high-end jewelry line is the latest. Dubbed The Protector, it's inspired by snakes because Angelina considers the reptile a protector of her family. Here at the BAFTA Awards in February, she gave us a sneak peek of the line by wearing the serpent bracelet.

The duo's jewelry line has been in the works for more than a year but will finally debut later this week at Asprey stores in London, New York, Beverly Hills, Tokyo and Dubai. A silver baby spoon with a serpent-shaped handle, retailing for $525, will benefit Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, co-founded by Angelina. Black diamond and emerald pavé rings, earrings, bracelets, men’s cuff links, and studs are also part of the line. This is one celebrity designer collaboration I didn't see coming. Did you?

RIP: Donald Fisher, Co-Founder of the Gap

Our hearts go out to the friends and family of Donald Fisher, co-founder of the Gap, who died on Sunday, in San Francisco. Donald founded the American casual label we all know (and love), with his wife Doris in 1969. The company just celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Named for the “generation gap” between Baby Boomers and their parents, the Gap revolutionized retail - the Fishers were inspired by a frustrating shopping experience. The couple had difficulty exchanging an ill-fitting pair of jeans and couldn't find the right denim size with the assortment at local department stores. They opened the first Gap store in the foggy city, sales reached $2 million the following year, and the rest is retail history.

I just found out my dad met Don circa '72 - they did some business together. Don was wearing a denim Levi's suit that my dad coveted and ended up hunting down and buying for himself. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, eh?

With Creative Director Patrick Robinson creating new heat for the established brand, the Gap, and Don's denim doings, live on.

Fab Flash: PETA Names Worst-Dressed Celebrities of 2008

PETA announced today that Aretha Franklin is "queen" of their annual worst-dressed list.

The online poll, which scolds those who "drape themselves" in fur, leather, and exotic skins, also named Lindsay Lohan, Eva Longoria, Kate Moss, Kylie Minogue, and Marilyn Manson as top offenders.

Aretha Franklin: How 'bout some R-E-S-P-E-C-T for animals? Aretha, when you waddled into the Grammys in yet another vulgar fur, you looked as if you were going to perform "I Am the Walrus" by the Beatles. You might be a queen, but you don't know jack about compassion.
Marilyn Manson: Always draped in leather from head to toe, Manson has enough skeletons in his closet to fill a pet cemetery. As if wearing dead animals isn't foul enough, Manson says that he wears his cow-skin pants 24/7- only peeling the smelly things off to have sex. That alone should be enough to tarnish leather's dated sex appeal. Manson might only be the shock rocker's stage name, but his wardrobe is a real-life tale of blood and guts.

Eva Longoria: Eva Longoria is short on compassion. In her trashy furs, she looks like the streetwalker of Wisteria Lane. Eva is one "desperate housewife" in need of a quickie divorce - from her stylist.
Lindsay Lohan: I Know Who Killed Me isn't just the title of Lindsay Lohan's latest bomb, it's the cry of the animals snuffed out so that this "mean girl" can pose in their pelts. Lindsay, there's no road to recovery for the foxes who are anally electrocuted so that you can look skanky.
Kate Moss: Nothing completes the transition from supermodel to super tramp like a fur coat. If Kate could see clearly through those bleary eyes, maybe she’d clear her closet of those furs.
Kylie Minogue: What does Kylie Minogue have in common with her python purse? They are both cold blooded. Come on Kylie, it's not cool to clutch an accessory made by nailing snakes to a tree and skinning them alive.

Name a celebrity that hasn't worn the gorgeous creations of Brazilian Armenian jewelry designer Jack Vartanian. Gisele Bundchen,Taylor Swift, and Selma Blair have donned his bling to recent events. Ciara stepped onto the MET Gala red carpet wearing Vartanian's 2.8-carat black diamond stud earrings, while Cameron Diaz wore this 18-carat coral and diamond cocktail ring to the Tonight Show With Jay Leno in May.

Gisele has described his goods as "cool and sophisticated at the same time."

Vartanian comes from a family of jewelers who specialize in precious stones. He grew up recognizing the best stones and diamonds throughout the world, and as a teenager started working in the family business. In 1999, he branched out on his own and currently has four stores in Brazil and a US boutique on Madison Avenue in NYC. His pieces don't come cheap, but they're a feast for the eyes nonetheless. Nicole Miller Draped Firecracker Dress: Love It or Hate It?

With a name like firecracker, this Nicole Miller Draped Firecracker Dress ($219, originally $365) is the perfect way to celebrate the Fourth. Or is it? It will definitely make you stand out from the crowd, but will it also make you detract from the real fireworks? The colors and print are unique but I'm not so sold on the drape front. I would have preferred a more fitted, sexier version. Perhaps a miniskirt. What do you say?

Tarina's Witchy Wizardly Wares

Not into gothic jewels? How about bewitched "Wizard of Oz"-themed baubles? The queen of jeweled kitsch, Tarina Tarantino (no relation to Quentin), is launching a new jewelry and handbag collection named “My Pretty” celebrating the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz. Items are inspired by the characters in the old tale. For example, the Dorothy collection promises rainbows mixed with emerald tones inspired by the Emerald City, and the Wicked Witch collection contains tooth-and-claw-shaped Lucite and metal spikes. Prices will range from $50 to $350 and hit Tarantino stores in June. Sounds wicked cute. P.S. That is Debi Mazar modeling some of the Oz-y goods!

Fab Read: Tom Ford

I can go on and on about Tom Ford and his amazing achievements in fashion, like Carine Roitfeld did on CNN, but I'll let his infamous book, Tom Ford ($88), do all the showing and telling. This book isn't new, but it's a classic - 375 pages is essentially a 10-year resume of the envelope-pushing designer who once served as creative director for Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent. Ford started out as Gucci's head in 2004 and when Gucci acquired Yves Saint Laurent, he was named the creative director of that house too. Get up close and personal with product shots, ads, runway photos, quotes, and celebrities, all from the Ford Gucci era.

Rachel Bilson is spreading her fashion wings by writing for InStyle magazine. In the May issue, the celebrity designer has her own page (page 148) named, Ask Rachel. "I’m actually flattered more than anything that people want to ask me questions about style. I am honored to do it,” said Bilson.

In her editorial debut, Rachel answers readers style questions and dishes on her favorite Spring items, which include Lela Rose for Payless flats, Lanvin sandals, and Matta scarves. When asked if it's OK to pair a big shoulder bag with a cocktail dress, Rachel replied, "You can absolutely wear a large purse with a party dress. In fact, I prefer it. Of course, it shouldn't be the size of a carry-on, and anything with an overly large strap is too casual. But a funky purse can offset the fuss of fancy." Behind the Seams: Fab and Saks Are Worn to Be Wild

What better way to celebrate the arrival of Spring shopping than with one of my favorite retailers: Saks Fifth Avenue. Yours truly and Saks kicked off Spring with an event appropriately titled "Worn to Be Wild." I chose some of my favorite trends of the season - Luxotica, Cropped Pants, Disheveled Chic, and Aggressive Shoe, to name a few - and Saks's stylists worked their fashion mojo. Fab hosted, bubbly flowed, people shopped. Everyone left happy. Take a lookie behind the seams . . .
