In Japan, Olga walked the red carpet in a Chanel Couture Fall '06 gown. It's quite a complex dress made up of tulle, fish-like scales topped with sequins, a halter bodice, and asymmetrical bottom. Two fabulous ladies, one gorgeous Chanel couture dress. Can you believe Cate Blanchett first wore this 2006 Chanel Fall couture dress in 2006 at the London premiere of Volver? Socialite Daphne Guinness recently resurrected the same dress and wore it at the Chanel couture collection show. Cate kept her look simple with black opaque tights and boots, while Daphne stepped it up a couple notches with a wide belt and chunky platforms. Whose version do you prefer?

Spring 2008 Couture: Chanel

Karl has interpreted an arctic freeze and only he could make frigid fashion look so desirable. With an icy palette of gray, black, and white, there was plenty of detailing and tailoring to keep the eyes happy. Some of the sophisticated and ultra-chic ensembles actually made me shiver - this mini-fied black and white suit for one.

Tiered ruffles and volumes were modern maneuvers, creating a slight Chanel cupcake aesthetic. Plumage and beading was a slight nod to Armani, but don't get me wrong: Karl does this very well, too. All towering over covetable ballet flats, this couture collection was sweet, but ultimately fierce.

P.S. Get a load of the massive iceberg of a classic Chanel jacket.

Fall 2007 Couture: Chanel

The Chanel couture show may have taken place amidst rainy weather, the front row attendees may have ruined their shoes in the mud, but the clothes were anything but downtrodden. In fact, the bad weather made the stunning designs stand out even more.

The show opened with variations on the classic Chanel suit, with detailing from sequins to leather to feathers, and closed with the bride covered head to toe in a fantastic feathered dress. Karl Lagerfeld seemed to take inspiration from medieval times - the head coverings remind me of the chain mail knights wore under their helmets, the feathers seem reminiscent of the Middle Age pastime of falconry, and a couple of the dresses seem very Maid Marian. All in all, another masterpiece from Karl!
