The Quest For The Perfect Flat Iron

Besides mascara, the other thing I am constantly searching for is the best flat iron for my hair. I probably have about four that I have replaced for various reasons. I did a little research and of course, wanted to share with you.

According to my research, one of the best and safest flat irons for your hair is the Sedu Ionic Ceramic Flat Iron. Although it's pretty costly (Around $125.00), it smooths any type of hair, leaves no frizz and if blow dried straight first, this iron gives hair a shiny, perfect finish!

The most important element to look for when buying a flat iron is that it's ceramic. The older versions are made from metal which are rougher and result in more breakage. But don't let any of these advertisements fool you. No iron is 100% safe for your hair. The amount of heat that is generated by any styling tool is potentially damaging. If you buy one with teeth on it, make sure the teeth are aiming downward and that your hair is completely dry when you begin. If wet, the steam will directly enter your hair shaft and could erupt causing severe breakage. Lastly, always keep the iron moving on your hair. When you are finished, rub a peanut-sized amount of Kerastase's Lumiere Nutri-Sculpt between your fingertips until the consistency is slippery. Then rub it into your hair where the fly always are. It works like a charm and the little bottle should last you over a year!

When he wasn't busy styling desperately-in-need people on TV, he was plugging away on his book Freakin' Fabulous: How to Dress, Speak, Behave, Eat, Drink, Entertain, Decorate, and Generally Be Better Than Everyone Else ($17). It's a mouthful and so is his advice. He believes - and I agree - that fabulousness doesn't stop at style. Among other things, find out how to flatten a big butt, plump up a flat one, and how to make your entire silhouette look slim. Oh, and how do you eat an oyster without getting kicked out of a chi-chi restaurant? He has advice on that, too.

The Look For Less: Charlize Theron's 2005 Golden Globes Dior Dress

On Our Radar: Madonna and Gucci Team Up

Madonna and Gucci have joined forces but the headline doesn't go something like "Gucci dresses Madonna for a chi-chi event." Both are hosting a fund-raising event on February 6 to raise money for orphans in Malawi. Specifically, proceeds will go to UNICEF and Raising Malawi, a charity the singer co-founded in 2006.

What's more, the event will celebrate the opening of Gucci's largest store in the world on New York's Fifth Avenue. Go Madge and Gucci - way to use your power for the greater good.

How would YOU Wear It? Rihanna

I give Rihanna a lot of props for making bold fashion choices. But sometimes, they're too bold for my taste. Here, at MTV's TRL, the singer looks like she stepped out of a bad 80's music video. Individually, the pieces in her outfit are nice. Take for example the loose black and white tiger-print blouse: it's very chic and flattering. But paired with bright yellow skinny jeans, it can be too much. The larger-than-life gold earrings Rihanna is sporting are also way out there. They don't suit her jagged haircut and they're just too big for her tiny head.
I would have done a lot of things differently, so bear with me. I would have first ditched the enormous earrings and white patent pumps. I would have saved the blouse for a more chi-chi event. I would have kept on the yellow skinnies because they're appropriate for TRL. On top, I would have worn a simple tight grey tee and on my feet, I would have worn white peep-toe pumps. I would have also opted for silver jewelry! How would YOU wear it?

Fabworthy: Blumarine Sleeveless Dress with Twisted Straps

I don't normally go gaga over black frocks, but add some oversized bows and it instantaneously takes it from drab to darling. This Blumarine Sleeveless Dress with Twisted Straps, $1,145, is not your average LBD and it's all thanks to those two bows perched on the thin twisted straps. They demand all the attention and rightfully so. I also adore the pleated bodice and the beaded velvet accents.

I can see myself wearing this pre-Fall piece to a chi-chi cocktail soiree. I would pair it with a hot pair of silver peep-toe pumps and let the bows be the only other accessory. Even the shiniest bling wouldn't be able to handle the competition!
