Sweet Chocolate Couture

Two of girls' best friends-in this case, chocolate and fashion-collided at the 9th Annual Chocolate Show, held last Thursday in New York City. Some of the designs were absolutely gorgeous, like the Willy Wonka-inspired masterpiece and vampiric design above. Others, meanwhile, were totally gross-notably, the model with strips of chocolate running down her legs. For the fashion portion of this choco-centric event, top pastry and confection chefs worked with fashion designers, including Rebecca Taylor, Abaete, and Heatherette, to create the over-the-top and edible clothes. High-Fashion Chocolates

As a chocolate lover, I'm not hard to please, but Marcolini's truffles-which I was lucky enough to taste the other night-are the most decadent and delicious chocolates I've ever known. Originally from Belgium but of Italian decent, Marcolini is extremely disciplined and never strays from his recipes. His cocoa beans come from Venezuela, Madagascar, Ecuador, and Mexico, but what really sets him apart is that he makes all of his chocolate from scratch, as opposed to adding ingredients to already prepared chocolate. Walking downtown after dinner last night, we passed a newly opened candy store. Sure they had your standard KitKats, Jolly Ranchers and M&Ms, but what I really discovered is just heaven!

High-End Halloween Treats

A Fabby Halloween: Veruca Salt

Veruca Salt is a spoiled brat. She's the only child of a wealthy couple, and a real daddy's girl. She "wins" a Golden Ticket in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory by having her Daddy's factory workers go through thousands of Wonka Bars. In fact, her personal mantra is: "I want it NOW!" - she sings a whole song centering around those four words.

Veruca would like to think she's one of a kind, but her look is actually pretty easy to put together. Well, almost. Don't forget the sour face and the blonde mink coat she's so proud of. And feel free to throw a temper tantrum here and there: this girl is one bad egg; that's what Wonka's egg-sorting machine judged her, after all.

With all the holiday shopping madness
consuming me and my friends, we've decided to take a break. We're meeting up at our favorite cafe to drink yummy hot chocolate and yap the afternoon away. Can you help me find an appropriate ensemble? Something that will keep me warm but ahead of my fashion game.
