Christian Louboutin Launches a Beauty Brand

You may not be ready to splurge on a pair of Louboutin heels yet, but no worries: his cosmetics line could be classing up your bathroom counter in 2013. The famed shoe designer has started a new company, Christian Louboutin Beauté. "Beauty products also have to do with empowering women," he explained to WWD. "That's very much the job of the shoes I'm designing." This announcement comes just in time for the shoemaker's 20th anniversary this year.

Louboutin's inspiration for beauty comes from the famed Egyptian queen Nefertiti (so you can bet kohl eyeliner will be in the lineup). Expect his signature red soles to sprout many variations within his cosmetics line, too, including lipstick and nail colors. And if it wasn't implied, this line will be chic and luxurious. The new line "has to mirror the quality of the shoes, of the bags, of all the DNA of the brand," Louboutin said. We'd expect no less.

This year marked the debut of Marc Jacobs's moon boot wedges and Prada's flatforms, but we were also introduced to Charlotte Olympia's quirky cat-faced slippers and stacked platforms, and treated to another wonderful dose of Louboutin's red sole-induced magic. Brian Atwood debuted his gorgeous - and more accessible - lower-priced line, B by Brian Atwood, and Giuseppe Zanotti had us hypnotized with studded and spiked creations.
