There's both a sultry undercurrent and a definitive strength that runs throughout Pilati's finale. It's a give and take - boxier leather jackets and trousers, and sharp outerwear have as much of a place as slinky dresses and pencil skirts constructed in light-reflecting mesh. Even when Pilati zeroes in on more masculine construction, he never misses the mark of a woman - nearly every look is completed with a wide belt to accentuate the waist and plush fur accents are thrown effortlessly over shoulders. Frida Giannini featured a decadent array of dark hues and velvety textures for Gucci's Fall 2012 collection. Inspired by 19th-century romanticism, Giannini created lace-up blouses, sheer tulle Oscars-worthy gowns, and billowy capes. With a color palette that was mainly comprised of black and purple hues, Giannini played up the textural component via velvet, feather embellishments, and jacquard patterns. Meanwhile, moody floral maxi skirts and baggy trousers emoted a casually luxe vibe, further translated in the designers' wide array of coats and jackets, ranging from an oversized shearling rendition to an elegant velvet wrapped blazer.

McQ by Alexander McQueen Fall 2012

Tonight's McQ by Alexander McQueen lineup was a breathtaking showcase of stylized beauty and fashion fantasy. Considering this was the diffusion line's first-ever showing during London Fashion Week, we'd say the bar has been set pretty high. Immersed in dark tones, rich fabrics, and even richer embellishments (think velvet embroidered onto sheer lace), each nipped-waist dress marched out onto the leaf-ridden runway with just the right amount of retro nostalgia and tough-girl attitude. Standout pieces ranged from the super-structured outerwear and signature tartan plaid dress with sheer lace detailing to the brocade-felt skirts and chunky harness-inspired belts. If the impeccable designs alone weren't enough to move you into a state of awe, then tales of the spectacular finale certainly will. As model Kristen McMenamy took her final turn in an ivory lace gown, all went dark except for a spotlight overhead. From there, gold flecks were showered over her from above, she found a rope hidden beneath the foliage, and she pulled herself to the end of the catwalk where a dark enchanted forest awaited her. I promise, I am not making this up. High drama and poetic undertones aside, this collection was exquisite and featured all the tell-tale tailoring that we've come to revere from McQueen wares. Fall in Love With . . . Cold Shoulders

This week, she's sharing her favorite open-shouldered tops.

I’ve been slightly obsessed with cold shoulder tops lately. Cut out shoulders transform an otherwise simple piece into something a little sexier, a little edgier. The peek-a-boo shoulder adds a fun and flirty feel without showing too much. It’s subtle, but sexy. The look was initially introduced in the nineties when Donna Karan debuted her iconic “cold shoulder” dress on Hillary Rodham Clinton who wore the dress to the inaugural ball. When asked about the gown, Karan said that no matter what women think about their bodies, they never complain about their shoulders. And she’s right! The trend regained momentum more recently during spring 2012 fashion week when designers like Richard Chai LOVE, 3.1 Phillip Lim and BCBG Max Azria rolled out various interpretations of the shoulder splice.

Needless to say, I’m a big fan of the look. When it came to designing my spring collection for my LC Lauren Conrad collection for Kohl’s I was inspired to create a few easy-to-wear flirty blouses. And Donna’s famed cold shoulder made the cut.

I adore this blouse (pictured above) because I’m a sucker for floral prints and chiffon. When I designed it I wanted to create something feminine that would turn heads, which is why the shoulder splice was the perfect finishing touch. I love wearing this blouse over a camisole with dark wash jeans.

Derek Lam Fall 2012

Derek Lam's runway show today at St. John's center was worth the freezing trek through wind tunnels. For Fall, Lam mixed his ladylike style with a sportif twist melding chic separates with a menswear twist. Pretty ivory floral satin bomber jackets were paired with pencil skirts and finished off with eye-catching cap-toe ankle boots and metallic loafers. Additionally, there were sharp metallic suit sets, quirky collars, and pleated wide-leg cropped trousers made in wool, leather, and, for a glitzy touch, sequins. Lam's effortless style was also translated into a beautiful array of ivory and black languid silk gowns paired with textural cable-knit sweaters. Richard Chai Love Fall 2012

Inspired by the idea of "handsome femininity," Richard Chai showed a Fall collection that was simultaneously simple, yet statement-making. “I didn’t want to do anything that was tricky,” Chai told The New York Times. “I didn’t want to create looks that were just for the show. I wanted it to be approachable and believable, but also be really aspirational. At the end of the day, it’s pieces that I want people to wear.” Chai's boy-meets-girl vision was interpreted into gorgeous slim-fit striped trousers, structured oversized blazers and coats, cozy knits, blanket-stripe coats, and moody florals. The latter was cut into diaphanous sheer skirts, corduroy pants, and jackets, adding a feminine streak to his city-slicker style. Furthermore, his outerwear was something to contend with; Chai's selection of oversized structured jackets and coats were perfectly tailored and ideal for topping off just about any Fall look.

I'm excited to present a post from one of my favorite sites, Stylelist Home.

One thing that I find beautiful about Winter is the calm that comes over me when I look at the fresh white snow blanketing the city, so regal, pure, and somewhat innocent. It changes the color palette of the world around you for a couple of months, which is bound to affect how you see things. Just like the seasonal weather change, my floral cravings can change accordingly. I get excited when an opportunity presents itself to create floral for a Winter wedding or a holiday arrangement where the juxtaposition of Winter whites can be explored and manipulated. I do not see it as a limited palette but instead a of study of form and texture with tonal contrast. You do not need an abundance of color to make a statement, sometimes less (color) is more. When you are creating your own floral piece or need to verbalize to a florist about what you are looking for, know that there are various shades of white. Remember the last time you painted something "white" and you were in awe of how many options there were for white? Some color chips might be completely void of pigment, but most have a hint of color, which can point to any direction in the color wheel. Selecting floral for your white bouquet can be a lot like selecting from those white paint chips. Keep in mind these hue differences when setting the tone for your arrangement.
