If anyone can lift American spirits, it's Ralph Lauren. On the last (rainy) day of NYFW, his Depression era-inspired collection did, in fact, leave us on a positive note. Blues in all hues, denim, country florals, navy pinstripes, white cotton, and a couple drop-dead gowns were intensely pretty.

There are some funkier-than-funky jeans out there right now. What started with a few holes has now taken off into all-out shreds, colorful paint splatters, psychedelic tie-dye, see-through mesh, lace-insets, and so on. One of my favorite denim brands, Siwy, takes the prize for designing some of the most daring denim — these Sheer Mesh Skinny Jeans ($242) are '80s sexy but only fit for bold fashionistas.

There's a reason why celebs and fashionphiles alike love Michelle Siwy's sensational denim. Her ultraflattering line stands out from the rest with its rock- and vintage-inspired flavor. For Fall, Siwy is supplying us with a funky denim line, kickass array of leggings, along with the occasional satin pair thrown in the mix.

Angel Llanos caught my attention me with her casual cool 'fit. If you want to see denim done right, look. It's by no means a complicated ensemble — gray tee, black shorts, flats — but the denim jacket is the cherry on top.

Paige Premium Denim has been working for months on its new style of jean — the Lou Lou Tulip Ankle Flare Jean ($199). It's three parts skinny jean and one part flare, which means the leg is super fitted all the way down through the calf like a skinny and then flared right before the ankle. It's nicknamed the tulip for its upside down take on the flower.

During uncertain times like these, Gap knows spending over $100 on designer jeans is ludicrous. Dude, even in a bustling economy, it's still pretty crazy. That's why the brand just unleashed a new line, called 1969 Premium Jeans, that promises to deliver the same designer details without the heavy price tag.

Anyone heard of the denim brand Not Your Daughter's Jeans? The name is a bit awkward, but the product impresses. Dubbed the original tummy tuck jean, these were created for curvier, full-figured women.

For Fall '09, Emily Current and Meritt Elliott mixed together inspiration from circus and Victorian life to create a quirky cool collection of denim. Seriously, where else can you a find a rugged Victorian jacket? For the upcoming season, the duo's famous boyfriend jeans were nowhere in sight, and instead replaced with an array of skinny jeans and wide-legged cuts in dark vintage washes.

Now this is more like it. J.Crew is focusing on the "skinny skinny" denim silhouette with Madewell ’37s jeans collection offered at the just-right price of $59.50. The detail-free (love that) jeans will come in a variety of modern washes: black, plume, avalanche (modified acid-wash), dark ash, and chimney (a bleached-out black-on-gray).

While the nights are balmy, swap out your LBD for a LDD: little denim dress. I'm not talking about just any denim frock; think body-con cuts and dark washes. Personally, I like to pair my LDDs with metallic flats, but you can also dress them up with sleek heels, like AnnaLynne McCord, for an extra sexy appeal.
