Fab Finding Follow-Up: Parti Armani

I never tire of boutique parties. There's always amazing eye candy, yummy apps, and irresistible bubbly involved. A couple weeks ago, I attended an Armani party. The SF store had a special retrospective on gowns worn at awards shows and red carpet events - 'twas amazing. It was Armani, so I needed you to help me put together a simultaneously chic yet fun ensemble. Speaking of red carpet fashion, check out my Red Carpet Faceoff game - fun!

I started you off with these Emporio Armani Quartz and Pearl Earrings ($110). They're the ideal combination of sophistication and pizzazz. Let's see your creations!

Trend Alert: Modern Navy

I've never been a huge fan of navy, but Ciara has me thinking twice. At the Originals by Originals Adidas launch in LA, the singer donned a modern navy cutout dress that exudes sleek style. Sizzle. You don't have to show skin - though I would - to exude this contemporary attitude, just focus on streamlined cuts, funky embellishments, and an avant-garde aesthetic. Hmmm, crisp cobalt also made a recent comeback. Could it be the return of blue? I think so . . .

Behind the Seams: Backstage at NYFW, Spring '10

You've seen most of the front stage at New York Fashion Week. Now it's time to go to the back, where designers are putting finishing touches on their creations and models are getting dolled up. This gorgeous foursome posed right after getting their makeup done at Nicole Miller. It's a highly stressful place to be right before a show, but backstage is simultaneously thrilling. Celebs, models, designers, press - it's a necessary madhouse. Ready? Grab your pass, let's go!

2010 Spring New York Fashion Week: Derek Lam

Imagination. It's nice to see some imagination. Optimism. Fun. Stars. Derek Lam delivered a highly entertaining collection - you didn't know what to expect next. Carnival colors mixed with womanly separates, all with a '40s flair. Though lovely, this collection left me wondering one thing: where are the gowns? Lam chose to finish his runway lineup with several draped one-pieces. A few fun printed cocktail dresses graced the runway - it was all about legs, legs, legs. Americana-inspired, a star print stole the spotlight, as did as this gold hologram sequined blouse and skirt (looks like a dress, huh?). Teensy jackets, wrap skirts, and corseted dresses, in luxe suede and double crepe, will no doubt prove to be popular. Accessories were equally fun: star-shaped hoop Dean Harris earrings, wraparound belts (one model forgot hers), mini duffel bags, and safari sandals. Some may argue this collection was incoherent, I think that was the intention: unorganized glamour.

Fall Glimpse: Heavenly Handbags

Draping is a classic fashion technique - we can learn this from studying Madame Grès and the Romans. This classic has been rejiggered, reworked, revitalized for Fall. From dramatic Givenchy draping (left) to delicate Wu draping, I'm going to have to plan on a drape escape come cozy time. Trend Alert: Teensy Chain Bags

Maria always looks great. She seamlessly goes from the hot court to the stylish red carpet. Here, she co-hosted a TAG Heuer party in Canada, in a crinkled electric blue frock with sheer ruched gray sleeves. But it's her Cole Haan teensy chain bag tucked casually under her arm that brightens up her look. The fact that she's wearing it anti-fancy as a clutch, rather than dangling, is a Sharapova styling trick I think I'll try. Have fun with these little ones and throw an unexpected color into the mix.

The timid need not apply. My reco is to soften these puppies with a feminine dress or flowing top, or, screw it - rock them with your toughest, sexiest. You only live once . . .

Cruise '10 Trend: Clean, Lean Trousers

With Cruise '10 in full effect, let's stop and evaluate the latest. Frocks and skirts dominated, but what really caught my eye were clean, lean trousers - quite the opposite of crazy harem pants. Instead, trousers ranged from cropped and loose-fitting to tight and body-con. All polished, all pretty. Each style had its own appeal; I can see myself rockin' these silky Roksanda Ilincic trousers to a rooftop party and these Rebecca Taylor pants for a lazy bike ride.
