Who Wore It Better? Dolce & Gabbana Polka Dot Skirt

Spotted: Sarah Silverman and Diane Keaton wearing Dolce & Gabbana's polka dot skirt within one week from one another. Funny girl Silverman wore the skirt with a black cardigan (hello cleavage), funky striped gloves, and open-toe pumps last week at The Met's Costume Institute Gala. Keaton, on the other hand, opted to pair the skirt with a crisp white shirt, black patent belt and closed toe platforms at the 24th Annual Infinity Awards in NYC. Both look like they're having fun, but who wore it better?

How many actresses can say that a single movie role they played spawned a whole fashion movement? Playing Annie Hall was so natural for Diane Keaton, her personal style reflects what Annie would wear today, were she real. Yes, Diane has made a few fashion faux pas, but what risk-taker hasn't? If you don't take risks in fashion, you can't be in the running for a style icon. What's more, when Kate Moss is inspired by your style, you know you've got something special going on.

What attracts me to Diane's personal style is her ability to pull off androgynous looks with utter sophistication - like no other woman in Hollywood. She found a fashion genre that works for her, so she's stayed endlessly true to it. Not many fashion insiders have that much loyalty to one style. And I'm not the only one who sings Diane's praises; Rachel Bilson, who often dabbles with the boy-meets-girl style, looks up to her, too:

"Diane Keaton always stays true to herself, stylewise, which I admire so much. And I love her menswearish Annie Hall-era outfits," she said in Lucky Magazine's March issue.

I'm so glad Diane was chosen to portray Annie Hall, because in the hands of another actress, who knows if the menswear trend would live on so strongly today!

It's always fun to see who's paired up to present with each other. Sometimes the synergy is a good fit, like last night's hilarious Black/Reilly/Ferrell trio, and sometimes the synergy is non existent. Regardless, I thought these were last night's sharpest presenters. Who was your fab favorite?

Fab Blab: Stephanie Seymour and Fenton Talk Jewels

Isn't it grand when two fashion folks get together and pick each others' brains? One of my Super favorites, Stephanie Seymour, interviewed the designer of jewelry line Fenton for Interview magazine. Seeing as how statement jewelry - especially cool, mixed material jewelry - has dazzled its way into our lives this year, I'm sure you won't mind hearing all about what the designer, Dana Lorenz, has to say. Here are the highlights from Stephanie's Interview interview, jinx:

If Dana weren't a jewelry designer she would . . . "My friends and I always laugh that maybe we'll leave it all behind and go open a Holistic Dog Spa or make organic soaps in Vermont, but to be successful at it. Like Diane Keaton in Baby Boom."
Favorite celebrities to dress. "Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinton are always surprising and refreshing to see."

The designer's favorite materials to use. "Solid brass is great because of its weight and wear and value. I'm trying to plate a lot less because of the impact on the environment so we are working with heat and natural ways to tarnish and oxidize metal. I found a great source for vintage lucite and crystals from Germany who keeps an eye out for me. If I like what she's pulled I buy the whole lot - using up surplus materials that already exist in the world. It's the only way I feel good about achieving a look that's 'excess' without being excessive."
Her realization she was a successful jewelry designer. "Being asked to design necklaces for Proenza Schouler, getting a call from Anna Wintour's office about sending up items for xmas gifts . . . being interviewed by you for Interview!"

Sneak Peek! Edie Rose For DKNY Jeans

In anticipation of the official in-store and online launch of Rachel Bilson's Edie Rose for DKNY line, DKNY launched a mini site showcasing the clothes and how you can mix and match them. As Rachel puts it, "The pieces are really wearable which I think is important because you can mix and match from the line." With a mod palette of black, white, and yellow, the clothes have a prissy downtown vibe. One item I have my eye on is the tuxedo jacket with white piping.More details about when the collection will be in stores and online to come. After the jump you can watch a fun video with Rachel behind the scenes at the ad campaign photo shoot. She talks all about her design mantra, where the name Edie Rose comes from, her adoration for Diane Keaton, and her favorite piece from the collection.

Fab Photos of the Week

This week on Fab, it was all about the melding of masculinity and femininity. Fabcon Diane Keaton, alienlike Carmen Kass, and Sasha Pivarova dressed as John Galliano provided some androgynous eye candy. Polka dots, florals, and bright colors represented the Springy selection. Coincidence or not, a handful of stunning black and white photos were also sprinkled in, rounding out the week.

A big congratulations is in order for a fellow reader...she just bought her dream house: a lovely beach cottage! Makes me think of that amazing house in the Hamptons Diane Keaton's character had in the film Something's Gotta Give - that house was amazing.

She currently lives in a "super status-conscious 'burb" and her "typical uniform" consists of a "twin set, good bag, and kitten heels." Blahs-ville. Since she's moving to a more relaxed area, she's ready to let her hair down - but at the same time, she's "not a girl that lives in jeans and flip flops."
