Fab Flash: Diane von Furstenberg, Modern Day Superhero

Diane von Furstenberg has taken her Wonder Woman inspired collection one step further with the creation of her own comic book called, Be the Wonder Woman You Can Be, Featuring the Adventures of Diva, Viva & Fifa.

In her self-authored DC comic, Diane narrates tales of herself and other women - all wearing fabulous DvF clothing - in empowering situations. “I am Diva, Viva and Fifa altogether, I am DvF. It’s not so much that I identify with each of them, though. The idea is that if you feel insecure, look at yourself in the mirror, and through the reflection remember to be the Wonder Woman you can be. That’s my message.” said the designer .

Situations include a stage shy Viva turned rocker songstress to Fifa, mother of three turned Gourmet Cooking award winner. Want to hear more adventures from Diva, Viva, and Fifa? The $25 comic, available at DvF boutiques and DVF.com, will debut with her holiday collection. Proceeds from the comic books will benefit, Vital Voices, an organization that helps to empower women.

On Our Radar: Diane Von Furstenberg Is a Wonder Woman

Diane Von Furstenberg is the fashion industry's wonder woman - is there any project she's not a part of? - but now she's using her special powers to design a new collection. Come October, Von Furstenberg will unveil a line inspired by none other than Wonder Woman. It will consist of quirky dresses (left), footwear, and a few leather accessories in bright colors and the star motif the heroine is known for.

So why Wonder Woman? "Wonder Woman is the ultimate symbol of female strength, independence and freedom. When Warner Bros. approached me to collaborate, I immediately thought it was a fun idea that would reinforce my belief in women and commitment to their empowerment, " Von Furstenberg said.

Diane von Furstenberg's Wonder Woman collection is making its rounds. Debra Messing first wore the maxi version at Saks's charity event in October. Along with it she carried a purple clutch and wore a gold-chain bracelet. Paris Hilton opted for the shorter, wrap dress at a recent event in Spain. She kept her accessories to a minimum, allowing the bold print to speak for itself. She did wear silver metallic pumps and a ring. Both ladies worked the colorful print, but who wore it better?

Viktor & Rolf sparked a new virtual runway trend.
Rihanna became the Gucci/UNICEF spokeswoman.
Vogue Italia published its first ever, all-black issue.
Simon Doonan married longtime beau Jonathan Adler.
Victoria Beckham did it all. She created a dress collection, judged Project Runway Season Four's finale, modeled for Marc Jacobs, and signed a deal with Emporio Armani underwear campaign.

Diane von Furstenberg created a Wonder Woman collection, a comic book, launched her "Women We Can" campaign, and hosted a fabulous post-show dinner at New York Fashion Week where yours truly witnessed the action first hand.
Net-a-Porter sold Halston's comeback collection the day after the show, signed an exclusive deal with London house Preen, and created a limited-edition trend book.
Karl Lagerfeld staged another elaborate collection and created a Chanel mobile art pavilion.
Gwyneth Paltrow did a mini movie with Tod's and launched a lifestyle website, Goop.Cute!

Behind the Seams: Dining With Diane, Revelations With Rachel

Here's something worth losing my gloves in the taxi for . . .

I had the honor of attending Diane von Furstenberg's postshow dinner. In her fabulous studio next to her store in the Meatpacking District about 200 fashion folks (Ann Duong, Hamish Bowles, Suzy Menkes) and celebs (Molly Sims, Ellen Barkin, Susan Sarandon, Rachel Zoe, Rose McGowan) wined and dined. While I usually leave the celebrity doings to Pop and party talk to Party, it was an exciting, all-encompassing evening. When I wasn't with my new-found friends at Fashion Week Daily, I was taking pictures for you guys and talking to Ellen Barkin. Oh, and sipping bubbly.

Catered by long-time fashion favorite restaurant Indochine, the lady of the hour looked at ease and happy after another successful runway show. There was a giant screen with the Super Bowl playing - it was the NY Giants playing, after all. Amongst all the stimuli, it was also shoe heaven. Party goers had clearly gone home after the shows to change into less comfortable (more fabulous) shoes.

Because it was open seating, I chose to sit at the same table as Molly Sims and Rachel Zoe. Molly on one end, Fab on the other. We ate, drank, and chatted, like any normal dinner. Molly ran over when the fashion crowd gave a loud cheer to the game - what?! Fashion and football do mix . . .

Five minutes with Zoe! We gabbed about her new show on Bravo. She said it was more documentary than anything. We will see what she does day to day and she thinks it’s cool for people to see what kind of a job a stylist has. It takes place in LA and NY, even more so in New York with all the designer cameos. But don’t worry - there are plenty of celebrity drop ins.

We talked jewelry. I told her about how since reading her book I’ve tried to wear more. She complimented my earrings - art deco stolen from my mom. Coincidence: One of her gold bracelets was stolen from her mom. Get out! So I said the less-is-more philosophy is not really her thing, she said no way, "more is more." And that’s how she felt about life in general. Here’s where we got spiritual. She expects more from people and life and thinks people should push themselves and do what they want to do. Obviously the woman loves excess, but it was cool to hear how she translates that into her everyday life. She thanked the Sugar sites for saying nice things about her and I thanked her for being so nice to me. Zoe + Fab = BFF.

That's about all I recall from my fashion and celebrity sprinkled evening with DVF's gang. Now I have to go over to Saks when I have a break between shows and buy some new leather gloves. I wonder which ones Rachel would recommend . . .

Celebrity Style: Debra Messing

Debra stepped out like Wonder Woman at Saks's 10th Annual Key to the Cure charity kick-off party. Literally. She is wearing a Diane von Furstenberg dress from Furstenberg's new WW clothing collection. Debra can pull off a lot of things, and she's not afraid of color, so she looks brilliant in this printed maxi. And she didn't stop there. A purple patent clutch and gold chain bracelet furthered the fun.
