Doo-Ri's Lower-End Line - Under.Ligne - Is Here

We last heard about Doo-Ri Chung's budget-friendly line back in December. Seven months later, Under.Ligne has come to fruition. The current collection has nine pieces - fancy tees, leggings, and draped dresses - ranging from $150 to $495. Not cheap but way less than the designer's main label. Also unlike the main line, Under.Ligne's silhouettes are more simplified and everyday. Now I'm just waiting for Doo-Ri's novel hosiery collection. In the meantime, are you digging Under.Ligne?

Fab Flash: Doo-Ri Launches Budget-Friendly Line

No longer will we have to admire Doo-Ri's delicate creations from afar. Following in the footsteps of Zac Posen, Doo-Ri Chung has announced a diffusion line slated to launch next year.

“I have been thinking about this for a really long time,” said Chung. “Within my own collection there is a great need to have a wider price range. A second line allows me to do that."

The diffusion line will feature Doo-Ri's signatures patterns, cuts, and draping. Look forward to a cool collection of leather jackets, leather leggings, silk-screened tees, and jersey dresses. Wholesale prices will range from $80 for a top to $475 for a leather jacket.

Fab Flash: Doo-Ri Shows Off Her Bejeweled Legwear

Doo-Ri Chung has learned the right pair of tights can instantly transform an outfit. After receiving high accolades for the leggings shown in her Fall collection, seen left, Doo-Ri has decided to launch a hosiery line.

“I would love to use studs or bring something in that could be smooth on the surface,” said Chung. “Legwear is so important because women today see themselves in complete looks, and with how big accessories have become, they see how models are on the runway and that’s how they want to get dressed.”

The Doo.Ri leggings collection will make its debut in the Fall. If her hosiery does well, Chung will consider creating a more extensive line for next Spring.

Fab Flash: "Stylist, The Interpreters of Fashion" Launch Party

Last night, Style.com hosted the book launch party for its new book Stylist, The Interpreters of Fashion at Skylight in New York. A few of the 16 stylists highlighted in the book made appearances, including W fashion editor Camilla Nickerson, Vogue creative director Grace Coddington, Elle creative director Joe Zee, and Allure creative director Paul Cavaco. Vogue editor Anna Wintour and a gaggle of designers were also there to mingle and show their support, including the L.A.M.B. designer herself, Miss Gwen Stefani, decked out in a fringed checkerboard top and tailored shorts.

FabSugar Designer of the Year Nominee: Doo.Ri

Whether this designer wins FabSugar Designer of the Year or not, 2006 was definitely a plentiful year for Doo.Ri. This new designer won both the Perry Ellis Award for emerging talent in womenswear and the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in the past year and based on your response to her Spring '07 collection she may have a third win coming her way.

Doo.Ri has a rags-to-riches story. In 2001, Doori Chung started promoting her label, Doo.Ri, at her downtown New York store Klee. She debuted on the runway for Fall 2003. Before receiving much-needed funding, she had been creating out of the basement of her parents’ New Jersey dry-cleaning store. Then poof! Doori received an Ecco Domani award and then the aforementioned awards. Editors and shoppers alike adore her designs for their interesting architectural details and she works primarily with jersey - the ever-flattering fabric. Her finishing touches are chains that close a dramatically plunging back line and leather bands that cinch the waist. So where is Doo.Ri designing from now? A spacious, light-filled Manhattan work space. Nice.

NY Fashion Week: Doo-Ri

If you haven't yet heard of Doo-Ri, familiarize yourself now: The line, created by designer Doo-Ri Chung, was this year's winner of Swarovski's coveted Perry Ellis award, bestowed upon the best emerging designer at the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards. Doo-Ri's clothes are renowned for their easy fit and ability to cascade down the body, and the Spring 2007 collection at New York Fashion Week was no exception.

The Grecian-inspired styles relied heavily on off-white and gold tones, with most every item featuring one intricate accent as its centerpiece. Striking details included beaded waistlines, criss-crossed fabric swaths, and satin cap sleeves. New York Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Doo.Ri

In past seasons, Doo-Ri Chung's beautifully draped collections have been made primarily out of jersey. This time out, however, she moved away from her comfort zone, collaborated with Swarovski, and used silk. The result was no less breathtaking.

In a palette of nudes, navy, black, and boysenberry, body-conscious cropped tops and high-waisted skirts reminiscent of Alaia, sweetheart tops with sheer overlays, and Swarovski crystal-encrusted dresses all glided down the runway. Her reign as CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner may come to an end shortly, but Doo.Ri is hardly ready to throw in the towel. If anything, her showing is stronger than ever.

Fab Flash: The Next Generation in Fur

Fur is one, if not the most controversial subject in fashion. And I've got news for you: It's not going anywhere.

According to WWD, not only is the newest crop of designers supporting fur, but many are also trying to get licensing deals so they can have field days with it. The list of designers jumping on the fur train include Peter Som (Fall fur collar pictured), Chris Benz, Doo-Ri Chung, and Zac Posen. Despite a dip in fur sales last year, customers are currently more interested in smaller fur pieces like stoles and hats. But like many traditional fashion materials, fur needs a new perspective, an upgrade. As Peter Som puts it: "I love treating fur like I would any fabric - mixing textures, colors, and giving it an airy touch. It's all about creating romance and elegance. Fur ups the ante a thousand percent."

On Our Radar: Doo.Ri for BYLU at Fragments

Designer Doori Chung has teamed up with jewelry line BYLU to create some unique pieces and they are currently sold at Fragments. One such piece is this 24 karat gold vermeil ring with amethyst stones, $120. How gorgeous would it be on the pointer finger?

Actually, their collaboration dates back to 2004, when Doori, Ken and Dana made a collection for Doori's Spring '05 runway show. Their partnership provided the platform for Ken and Dana to launch their first fine jewelry collection, the Isis collection, in 2006.
