With the Boston Marathon a few weeks away, race season is just around the corner. And whether you consider yourself new to the running scene or a seasoned vet, it's never too early to start training for one of Summer or Fall's big races. From a 5K and beyond, here are all the tips and training plans you need to make yourself race ready.

The Beginning: 5K
Running 3.1 miles might seem like a daunting feat, but with a plan in hand, the process becomes so much easier. A 5K is considered a gateway race, and once you complete it, you will want to take on longer distances. Here are three posts to help you finish the race:

Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2012

In true Jean Paul Gaultier fashion, Fall 2012 is a rocker chick's dream. Steeped in streetwear influences and a cult punk band vibe, the designer certainly had the underground on his mind. So much so, that everything from woven jacquard trousers to satin-sheen cocktail frocks were embellished with retro bright '80s-style graffiti prints. But don't let the urban-inspired designs fool you. Gaultier amped up his tough-girl outlook with altogether luxe add-ons and with a surprisingly ladylike polish. Think slick metallic accents, velvet gowns, ultra-tailored suits in even more exotic snakeskin iterations, colorful fur stoles and capes, and voluminous cinching. Most interesting to note (aside from the stick straight flat-ironed hair, complete with spray painted middle parts)? The designer's attention to "two-in-one" pieces. Take, for example, the bronzed trench coat worn around the waist as a full skirt or the dress turned cape - much of the statement outerwear doubled in functionality and in coolness. Trends: Menswear-inspired snakeskin suits, two-in-one pieces, velvet, graffiti prints, and luxe embellishments.
Colors: Black, red, bronze, brown, white, gray, orange, and bright pink.
Key Look: With Jean Paul Gaultier, it's always about the tailoring. His Fall '12 lineup of well-cut jackets, trenches, and trousers take the cake.

Ferragamo Fall 2012

Strength and seduction ruled Ferragamo's Fall 2012 collection, both in its tailoring and sensuous color palette, and we have creative director Massimiliano Giornetti's fascination with Czarist Russia to credit. Specifically, the designer focused on the gilded elite from two distinct views, as seen in the strict, clean lines of the military-inspired silhouette and in the softer, sheer fabrics of the delicate lace dresses. In marrying the two ideas, we saw an interesting, albeit ultra-elegant, juxtaposition of pretty plum and mauve-hued frocks styled up with structured outerwear, diaphanous gowns paired with tough leather accessories, and opulently embroidered sweaters teamed up with long, luxe sergeant coats. At the heart of it all, though, the Fall '12 lineup was an excellent showcase of romantic, ladylike pieces, each perfectly adorned with equally charming chokers, velvet boots, and bright gold buttons. Trends: Opulent sheer lace, velvet accents, military-inspired outerwear, peasant tops, and a modified paisley print.
Colors: Plum, mauve, gold, metallic silver, charcoal gray, and black.

Accessories: Wide chain belts, lace-up heels, flower-adorned chokers, super structured saddle bags and clutches, and luxe velvet boots.

Mulberry Fall 2012

Thanks to Mulberry's fur-covered Fall '12, staying warm will be the least of our worries next season. Creative Director Emma Hill served up a cozy, woodsy collection inspired by Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are, and with a star-studded front row including the likes of Azealia Banks, Pixie Geldof, and Lana Del Rey (who even got a bag named after her this season) who sat on fur-covered seats, Mulberry's runway show was a heavenly romp through a wooded forest, playing nicely to the adventurous "girl against the elements" vibe - the color palette was earthy and natural, with bold pops of striking brights, and Aztec-inspired zig zags and painterly prints were also peppered throughout. Stylist Jane How did a fantastic job of setting the sartorial scene; fur vests were cinched with skinny belts and paired with sexy pencil skirts, chunky knits were layered over super-luxe silk and lace dresses, and models were swathed in sumptuous oversized scarves. After a veritable blast of color and patterns, Hill switched things up by ending the show with fluid, black-on-black ensembles - and the overall unexpected contrasts and eclectic styling gave us lots to look forward to this Fall. Trends: Fur, fur, and more fur; ethereal silhouettes wrapped in oversized, Eskimo-inspired outerwear, romantic lace dresses; did I mention fur?
Colors: Burnt orange, gray, blue, petrol, bark brown.
Key Piece: The full fur dress was a knockout.
Accessories: Foldover wedge ankle booties, supersize scarves, chain and double wrap belts, the new Del Rey bag.
Who Would Wear It: Eclectic girls who like to mix a bit of British schoolgirl with their Winter fare; stars like Alexa Chung, Kate Moss, and Emma Watson.

Rodarte Fall 2012

Leave it to Kate and Laura Mulleavy to not only draw a star-studded front row - hello, George Lucas, Natalie Portman, and Dakota Fanning - but to deliver a stellar, 1940s-inspired Fall '12 collection too. One part cave-drawing-infused, one part retro femme, and one part Australian outback-reminiscent, Rodarte showcased a beautiful mix of totally girlie pieces with both red-carpet appeal and wearable ladylike style. The sister duo paid close attention to feminine details á la Peter Pan collars, artfully structured ruffles, and metal star appliqué hair combs. Yet, never ones to shy away from throwing some quirk into the picture, they added literal hand prints to long, flowy evening gowns and added cowboy buckles to double-strap leather belts. The biggest covet-worthy takeaway from today's show? After several seasons of collaborating with key shoe designers like Nicholas Kirkwood and Christian Louboutin, the Mulleavy sisters debuted their first-ever in-house shoe collection. We're calling it: Rodarte's two-tone pumps with heels made of plexiglass, sexy dominatrix-inspired spat heels, and lace-up boots will be Fall '12 It girl items. All in all, it's a gorgeous autumnal lineup, just begging to be worn.

Trends: Cropped cable-knit sweaters, hand-print chiffon dresses, and 1940s-inspired silhouettes.
Colors: Warm, earthy tones like rust and terracotta juxtaposed against cool neutrals.
Key Piece: Super-cute chunky cable-knit sweaters paired with terracotta-hued trousers; diaphanous hand-print chiffon dresses.
Accessories: Ladylike round-toe pumps with heels made of plexiglass or filled with sand, sexy lace-up gladiator-inspired spat heels. Look out for the subtleties in each heel design.
Who Would Wear It: Front-row attendees Natalie Portman and Dakota Fanning are high up on the list, but we think a plethora of A-list talent will be clamoring to wear this collection. Don't be surprised to see Taylor Swift, Alexa Chung, Kirsten Dunst, and Elle Fanning flaunting Rodarte's wares, too.

DKNY Fall 2012

Dedicated to the Beat Generation, DKNY Fall 2012 showed a collection filled with strong silhouettes, pretty details, and even some shearling and fur. Designed with a city girl in mind, these seemed dedicated to the working city girl - skirt and jacket looks were belted for a crisp look, and coats were edged in leather. Ashley Greene, Nina Dobrev, and Coco Rocha were seated in the front row, watching the models come in literally off the street - the show was sat in a cavernous garage-like space with double-doors that opened out onto the sidewalk, allowing the models to walk in. Minus the fact that it was freezing out, it made for an energetic show.

Trends: ladylike, fur details, leather sleeves, florals.
Colors: Black, gray, plum, red, florals.
Key Piece: A leather-sleeved coat to wear over sheath dresses.
Accessories: Fur snoods with buckle closures, sleek clutches, red ankle strap platform heels.
Who Would Wear It: Sophisticated city chicks who like to make a feminine statement - Kim Kardashian, Olivia Palermo.

So Many Races, So Many Training Plans

We may be in the thick of holiday madness, but the New Year is right around the corner and I, for one, am already planning out my race schedule for 2012. Take a little this holiday weekend, and give yourself the gift of fitness by heading into resolution season with a plan. Here are training schedules for many race lengths to help you cross the finish line!

The Beginning: 5K
Running and racing 3.1 miles might seem like a daunting feat, but with a plan in hand, the training process becomes so much easier. Trying It All: Sprint Triathlon
If pounding the pavement day in and day out isn't your thing, mix it up a little and train for a sprint triathlon. The blend of swimming, biking, and running build cross training into your schedule.

Take two and a half months to train for a sprint distance triathlon: swim a half mile, bike 13 miles, and run a 5K. Be sure to practice those transitions!

The holidays are a perfect time to get cozy with your camera. The lights, the food, the weather, all of it makes for an awesome shot at a moment's notice. And if you need a bag that's going to stand the test of time, there's none better than the Chrome Niko Camera Bag ($95) to do the job. Chrome was kind enough to send me this bag to test out, and so far, I don't want to give it up. At first glance the Niko may not seem so "female-friendly," but on the contrary, it has no problem fitting smaller frames, and best of all, it's not too bulky.

Made of tough military grade nylon, this bag can take a beating and come out the other side looking shiny and new. Cyclists and bikers will love the Niko since it's lightweight and compact, but offers amazing protection for your gear thanks to its padded interior and water-resistant zippers. The signature Chrome seat-belt chest strap offers a satisfying click when closed (which also doubles as a bottle opener for those beer-fueled hikes), and the waist straps help it stay snugly in place. I have worried that someone (or something) will accidentally hit the center closure and send my gear falling to the ground, which is a scary thought if you're toting an expensive camera. I will say that ladies with a larger chest may not find this bag desirable. The padded chest strap is wide, so it could cause an unpleasant and uncomfortable "separation of the girls" if you know what I mean.
