Jennifer Aniston Starts Production Co., Announces Projects

Brad Pitt can have his Plan B - Jennifer Aniston will do just fine with her own production company, thank you very much. Joining forces with producing partner Kristin Hahn (who served as executive producer on The Departed), Aniston is creating Echo, a production company with a first-look deal at Universal Pictures. Variety has more:

Echo's emphasis will be on producing grounded, relatable material, the partners say. . ."We're drawn to stories about people finding their voice and finding their way because they help us as listeners and viewers do what we feel we're all trying to do, which is making sense of our lives through the stories of others," Aniston said. "That's why we chose the name Echo, to echo back an idea, a challenge, something that resonates through all of us."

The busy duo has already acquired several projects for Echo, some of which sound pretty great. Of course, there's the singing Texan female prisoners movie Goree Girls which will also star Aniston. And then there's my favorite of the bunch: "Chemistry, a David Sussman-scripted dramedy centered around the fact that romantic love and obsessive compulsive disorder demonstrate similar brain chemistry." It's official – we're ready to begin Spring shopping! Hopefully everyone knows the trends through and through and have decided which ones work for you. I'm going to dabble in the artsy and floral themes, as does this month's most wanted. One thing that marries all the best of the Spring trends for me is this Yves Saint Laurent Mini Star Bracelet ($395). I can't stop thinking about its star appeal - I've already placed a pre-order. Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan Talk About the Future of How I Met Your Mother

CBS focused on its current shows during the Winter TCA, bringing out comedy How I Met Your Mother, which is currently in its seventh season. Jason Segel and Alyson Hannigan were the only actors present today, but they had plenty to say, along with series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. They talked about what's next for Marshall and Lily and their new little family, Robin's recent revelation, and the perennial question about when we'll meet the mother.

Though no one gave us anything concrete about the mother, Bays insisted, "we know what the end game of the series is." Segel piped up to say that he was "so relieved when I found out there was an actual plan," and then joked about it, implying that it might be the apocalypse before we find out: "We have to see if the Mayans are right! It might be Dec. 21, 2012."
Bays and Thomas answered the question of whether Marshall and Lily are really moving permanently to their suburban home by saying that we're all about to find out. Thomas said that we're "going to see them deal with that" in the next few episodes.
Fans weren't the only ones irritated with the show faking us out with Robin's kids. Hannigan recounted, "You should have seen us at the table read. I was like, season pass delete!" But she said she was angry because she cared so much.
On the show's evolution, Thomas mentioned that they couldn't have done storylines like Marshall losing his dad in season one or two. For his part on that arc, Segel said that "it was a real honor" to be given the chance to play out Marshall's grief, and echoed that "it's a real honor when people ask the best of you."

Recently, New York Times columnist David Brooks wrote an op-ed piece about the “Haimish Line.” The Haimish Line is an invisible line sometimes crossed when you go from spending less to spending more - in doing so, Brooks contends, you often sacrifice warmth and connection to attain luxury and space. According to Brooks, “haimish” is a Yiddish word that suggests “warmth, domesticity and unpretentious conviviality.”

An exclusive, white-tablecloth, four-star restaurant where servers disappear and diners are on their Blackberries would be north of the Haimish Line. A small, casual diner on the corner bustling with loud conversations from neighborhood folks talking over each other would be south of the Haimish Line. A new dorm building with a shiny, new, unused lounge would be north of the Haimish Line; the well-worn lounge of ratty furniture that students veer toward would be staunchly planted south of the Haimish Line. The Haimish Line even slices across neighborhoods: densely packed urban neighborhoods where kids run home from school and and people have stoop conversations versus spread-out suburbs of isolated living in separate homes and cars.

Brooks advises that we learn to spend our money well and stay south of the Haimish Line.

I found this essay so compelling because money often buys privacy, space, exclusivity and “luxury”-all of which are the very opposite of “unpretentious conviviality.” In America, the picture of success is a bigger house (where the family is more spread out), moving to the suburbs (with more distance between neighbors), a nicer car (to be more vigilant about spills in), and flying first class (ok, so some things are not worth getting all concerned about “the Haimish Line” over).

If you want a chance at what may be 2012's most artistic beauty offerings, get in line for Dior's designer collaboration with German painter, sculptor, and installationist Anselm Reyle. The Berlin-based artist is known for working with bright colors and unexpected materials like neon tubing, and his violet camouflage eye shadow palette for Dior echoes his aesthetic perfectly. It's all part of a larger Dior accessories collection Reyle designed, which includes handbags and camo-print sandals. The palette ($110), along with five nail lacquers ($23) in Reyle-inspired hues, will be feted at a private party during Art Basel Miami this week. Not on the invite list?
