Emerald green has risen as the color of the moment thanks to a plethora of stunning green dresses at the Golden Globes. But was green on a comeback even before stars chose it for the red carpet? We think so: bold green popped up on the Spring runways at Michael Kors and Prada. I'm impressed by Paris Hilton's decision to wear a gorgeous emerald green Diane von Furstenberg dress to the David Letterman Show. The hue looks just as good on blonds as it does on red heads. I am especially into the peek-a-boo lace effect on the bodice. Though Paris usually likes to pile on the accessories, she kept it surprisingly simple. Not a jewel in sight; only a small black bag and snakeskin pumps. Brava.

On Our Radar: Bid on Keira Knightley's Atonement Dress

How can we forget when Rihanna overpowered the red carpet in her emerald green satin Dolce & Gabbana gown? It looks like Billy Joel's wife, Katie Lee Joel, was green with envy because she selected the same mesmerizing dress for a recent event. Both ladies look stunning, but I don't understand why Katie blocked her dress with her hair. Rihanna is more polished while Katie's more at ease. Which gal wins you over?

The Look For Less: Keira Knightley's Emerald Green Atonement Dress

Atonement costume designer Jacqueline Durran chose emerald green for Keira Knightley's character because to her, the hue symbolizes temptation. She certainly found the perfect color (which was a mixture of lime green silk, black and green organza, and green chiffon) because the dress is loved by nearly every girl who has seen the flick. Lucky for us, there's a look for less!

How to Work Bright Hues Into Your Makeup Routine (And Wardrobe, Too)

Bold colors in clothing can make your makeup choices a little dicey. Should you balance a vivid shade with pops of color in the eyes and lips, or go neutral, as not to look too silly? Recently I styled starlet Camilla Belle's makeup for the Art of Elysium event. She wore a beautiful, bright yellow dress that gave me pause in terms of makeup. My first instinct was to do a bright lip and pale skin. I then decided that the yellow should be the only color, and that everything else should be crisp, but neutral.

For the cheeks and lips I wanted to go with Camilla's natural lip color, just a little more vivid: too pink and it would be too sweet/little girl, and too plum it would be kind of Easter-y. To accomplish this, I used Maybelline Dream Mousse in Soft Plum on the cheeks, and Tarte LipSurgence in Enchanted on the lips. It was the perfect way to let the yellow dress take center stage, all while keeping the face from looking low-watt. Want to play with color, too?
