I have an (old) pair of petite, square shaped onyx studs; I wear them when I'm feeling a bit dark and moody. But what is missing from my studs to be of-the-now? Diamonds! Are These the Tamest Contestants in Bachelorette History?

The Bachelorette was back last night, and while the franchise is always trying to top itself in crazy, this season has a more mellow tone. Taking cues from the overly polite Southern belle star, single mom, and Bachelor vet Emily Maynard, the show has moved to her hometown of Charlotte, NC, and brought on some men who seem like they'll try a little harder to look like nice guys. Of course, there were cheesy gimmicks; I still can't figure out why one guy brought an ostrich egg. But at least one bachelor, Doug, won some sweet points and the first impression rose by bringing a letter from his 12-year-old son.

In all we met one pretty-mild villain, a luxury brand consultant who came in on a helicopter and said he's changing his personality to be "down to earth." Seemed pretty tame compared to "winning" Courtney from Ben's season or evil Bentley from Ashley's. Emily even got rid of a singer/songwriter who could have provided the looking-for-fame story line, and the upcoming scenes from this season of The Bachelorette weren't as dramatic as they usually are. Since Emily is the first mom to hand out the roses, I'm thinking producers vetted this batch of guys for more than making good TV. Both of the series's leads, Ashley Madekwe and Emily VanCamp, show off an enviable wardrobe of cocktail dresses, easy beach wear (it is the Hamptons after all!), and everyday looks we're dying to steal. So, we got to thinking about the actresses' style off screen. How do the style-setters' looks compare when they're not on camera? PaleyFest: Revenge Stars Tease Flashbacks and More Drama in the Hamptons

PaleyFest was back in action yesterday afternoon for Revenge. Stars of ABC's new hit show came out to talk about their successful first season, which, so far, has offered no shortage of plot twists, evil agendas, love triangles, and more. At the panel discussion, which followed a screening of a 20-minute teaser, Emily VanCamp (Emily), Madeleine Stowe (Victoria), and Josh Bowman (Daniel) graced the stage with the rest of the cast and creators to talk about their highly addictive series and answer questions for fans. The cast laughed along with the audience as they discussed the fun of playing such "twisted characters," as well as revealing a few hints at what is to come before the finale. Fans can look forward to some fun flashbacks. When the panel was asked about what the audience can expect from the flashback scenes, Gabriel Mann (Nolan) weighed in to describe them. "It's flashing back to the 2000s and '90s, and yet by way of the '70s. It's like Revenge goes Starsky and Hutch." After that, the rest of the cast took stabs at what Nolan's hair and wardrobe would look like, and he assured everyone it would be something worth seeing.
When asked about what is to come, creator and executive producer Mike Kelley said, "If it's not impossible, we'll probably do it." The audience laughed and when the question of Emily's mother came up, he smiled and said, "If it's not impossible it's on Revenge." He gave a real hint, revealing that there would be a flashback episode that will include all the people Emily is taking down, so it will fill in some of the blanks.
Ashley Madekwe chimed in about how not much has been revealed about her character, Ashley Davenport. She joked that they're going to find out she's actually not British, she's from the Bronx. The British actress then said, "I've read a few blogs and they always make fun of my terrible English accent. But I'm English!"
VanCamp and Mann gushed over how they like working together. They complained that they like hanging out so much they feel like they never have enough scenes together. VanCamp mentioned she has trouble keeping her composure when she and Mann are trying to get through a scene. "Everyone knows once I break a smile I'm done for the day," she said. "Once I get the giggles it's all over."
Stowe said she enjoys playing Victoria. "Oh, it's a ball," she said. "I said Mike [Kelley], I'll do anything for you. Anything you want. I'll kill, I'll chop off arms, anything, as long as we understand where she comes from." She talked a little more about the multiple personalities that come along with playing Victoria, saying, "I'm a full believer in yanking the audience around."
VanCamp talked about how she keeps her character likable. "That was my biggest fear when I first read the script. I initially thought of Dexter, which is one of my favorite shows, so I knew it could be done." She also mentioned, "It's also so important to go back in time to what this family put this little girl through. And also to maintain a moral code and sense of integrity."

Bachelor Ben Goes Hot-Tubing in Fantasy Suites and New Bachelorette Emily Maynard Boards the Titanic

It was down to the final three on The Bachelor last night, which meant Ben got to roll around in the hay in Switzerland with Lindzi, Nicki, and Courtney before kicking one of the ladies to the curb. Season after season we must painfully watch one of the most awkwardly forced scenarios of the show - the reading of the fantasy suite cards - as the bachelor and each of his three contestants/girlfriends pretend to not know what the card is ("Oh, what's this?") and then act like they just want to spend more quality time with each other ("We just talked all night!"). Ben tried unsuccessfully to hide his excitement before practically running to the fantasy suite with each of them, but after the hot tubs, fireside fondue, and professions of love, it was Nicki who took the limo of shame back to the States.

The second most awkward part of the show (well, besides Kacie flying all the way to Switzerland to get closure from Ben) was the introduction of the next Bachelorette, Emily Maynard. Emily went on a "date" with past bachelorettes Ali Fedotowsky, and Ashley Hebert, where she got to try on dresses, get advice, and then attend a screening of Titanic in 3D. It seems a little odd that Emily's getting advice from Ali, who's no longer with her pick from the show, and Ashley, who not only lost out to Emily on Brad's season, she basically spent her entire Bachelorette season comparing herself to Emily and being compared to Emily by her contestants. Emily should be getting advice from the real success story of the franchise: Bachelorette Trista Sutter.

5 Reasons Ashley Needs Her Girlfriends

Watching Ashley last night on The Bachelorette was like watching a long, drawn-out car crash. Hearing her cry and sigh over her lost love Bentley, who we all know is a soulless jerk, was so painful that only a drinking game (drink every time Ashley mentions "Bentley") kept my friend and me from losing our marbles. While we sat there dismayed that she could be so clueless about the show's "worst villain ever," my friend said, "this is what happens when you're separated from all your girlfriends." Exactly! What Ashley really needs to help her process these relationship decisions are her girlfriends (sorry, Chris Harrison, you can't quite fill those shoes, er, heels). Here are five reasons the bachelorette needs her besties.

Tough love: She needs her girlfriends to knock some sense into her, and I don't mean in the boxing ring. Guess what, Ashley, Bentley is gone, move on. Are you really pouting about one guy who left you when you have 11 guys who are obsessed with you? Get it together. And her friends would be able to see Bentley for the scumbag he is - sometimes you need outside perspectives from the people you trust to see a bad guy's true colors.
Shoulder to cry on: Yes, Ashley needs to move on, but she also needs to allow herself to be sad about losing someone she cared about. Maybe if she had been able to talk through Bentley leaving with a friend and really get all those emotions out, she would have been able to get past it and start fresh with the other guys.
Fug radar: I'm sorry, but some of the fellas she's keeping around are a bit on the fugly side. We all have those friends, or have been them ourselves, who keep a guy around because he's nice, even though there's no sexual chemistry. She needs her friends to tell her straight up, "why are you keeping him around if you're not attracted to him?"
Loosen up: Ashley is so stressed out, I get anxiety just watching her. What she really needs are some gal pals around to laugh with and put things in perspective. She's taking everything so seriously right now and is so tightly wound she can't even enjoy the process. It's even causing her to make rash decisions like kicking off both Ben F. and William on the two-on-one date. A much-needed, girls-only venting sesh would help her relax and clear her mind.
Confidence boost: Why in the world is Ashley so down on herself? She is so self-conscious about the guys not liking her or wishing the bachelorette had been Emily (and that nightmare roast didn't help), she can't even see that these guys are head over heels for her. She needs her friends to give her a heart to heart about all of her strengths and how she's a great catch.

What Jokes About You Are Off-Limits?

On last night's Bachelorette the producers had possibly the worst date idea ever: having all the contestants "roast" Ashley, in front of an audience no less. A few of the guys took the safe route by making fun of the other guys, but then the brave ones started making digs at the bachelorette, specifically, knocking her for having small boobs. I couldn't believe they'd go there - how old are these guys, 13? - but surprisingly, Ashley said her chest size was fair game and laughed along.

It wasn't until William committed the ultimate no-no, joking about wishing The Bachelorette was Brad's pick, Emily Maynard, instead of Ashley, that she wasn't laughing along anymore. Since she's in great dancer shape, body confidence isn't something she's lacking in, but after being rejected on The Bachelor, comparisons to "perfect Emily" are a different story.

Whether it's body issues or former flames, we all have sensitive subjects that hit a nerve when people mock them. I'm curious, what are yours?

Meet the New Bachelorette: Ashley Hebert

The Bachelor has wrapped up another season, with Brad Womack choosing Emily (who was also your pick!). Even though we don't know yet if we can look forward to a wedding for them, there is another follow-up we can put on the calendar: The Bachelorette! On Monday, May 23, we'll once again meet up with the latest lady to hand out roses: Ashley Hebert. Here's what you need to know about the newest Bachelorette.

She was the second runner-up on the current season of The Bachelor behind Emily and Chantal, but Womack rejected her because he felt like they didn't have enough chemistry.
She's 26 and lives in Philadelphia, PA.
