Trend Alert: Tassel and Fringe Bracelets

A recent trip to the SF-exclusive Banana Republic Edition accessories store had me ogling the latest and greatest in jewelry: tassel and fringe bracelets. There was a lot to swoon over, but this newest style really caught my eye. We've seen tassel necklaces before but these bracelets deserve their own category. They're half punk, half deco, all fabulous.

If fringe had a season it would have to be Summer. I can't think of a better time for me to rock this trend with shorts, skirts, jeans, you name it. Take for instance this Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent Flat Fringe Sandal ($204). The short, sleek fringe is the ideal mix of hippie-chic and city glam but I'm not willing to pay that much for such a statement piece.

Fringe sista, check out this cool Torn by Ronny Kobo Maggie Suede Fringe Vest ($308). It's undeniably bohemian chic, and I know you dig the slate blue hue. The only thing not to love is the expensive price, but no worries . . .

Ohh . . . this Billabong Two Times Vest ($52) is super fresh. It's made out of faux suede, hence the cheaper price tag, and rocks my world. The tailored cut is a sweet juxtaposition to the carefree fringes on the bottom. I think I need this.

Trend Alert: Flapper Fringe

Just when you think fringe has peaked its potential, designers come out with a thinner winner. Flapper fringe gives off a jazzy vibe, unlike its thicker, more bohemian sister. I actually own a black La Rok top similar to this 3.1 Phillip Lim Fringed Boat Neck Tunic ($695). Gotta love the way it swings with every motion. Swish, swish . . .

Freaky or Fabulous? Kiki de Montparnasse Fringe Necklace

I'm a sucker for fringe. Bags, shoes, skirts, tops, jewels - the fringier, the better. Well, that's what I thought until I saw this Kiki de Montparnasse Fringe Benefits Necklace ($595). Whoa, it has the longest fringes I've ever seen. I wonder if it's heavy. The concept of a fringe necklace is cool, but I'm wondering if the delivery looks more like chest hair than a necklace. Before I make up my mind, I want to hear from you: freaky or fabulous?

The daring footwear in Alexander Wang's Spring '09 show really elevated the looks, literally and figuratively. There were platforms with chains, weaving, and perforations, but the fringe stole the show. These toughies have since been featured in many an editorial spread and been spotted on the feet of fashion's badasses. I realize they aren't for everyone, but if you can pull them off, consider this cheaper option . . .

Leave it to Forever 21 to come out with these Fringe Open Toe Boots ($35) that are practically identical to the Wang version. Blink and you might just think they're the real things. The fringe is not as stick-straight, but who cares? I can't vouch for their comfort but I can predict you'll look totally rad.

Everything Rachel is wearing during her latest LA excursion is entirely on trend: the color nude, the heather gray tights, sky-high Louboutins, Ray-Bans. Her fringed Phillip Lim dress exudes a modern flapper look and the gray tights feed into the softness. The black Loubs, Wayfarers, and black wallet, on the other hand, add a pinch of severity. What I want to know is: Do all these current pieces come together flawlessly for you or not?

Sometimes you crave simplicity, and other times, you look to your top to serve as the standout piece in your ensemble. This Foley + Corinna Ombre Fringe Top ($394) does the latter. I love that the fringe is flashy but not over-the-top. But, in this economy, who wants to dish out $400 for a top? Not I.

I'm so happy I stumbled upon this Shimmy Fringe Tank Top ($30). Now that price is more like it. The tank still has the ombre fringe element, but these fringes are layered and shorter. No matter, it can still take center stage in your outfit. Black stovepipes, funky booties, and you're good to rock 'n go.

I've been wanting a fringe piece in my closet to reflect my love of the '20s. I figure a fringe mini skirt, like this Nanette Lepore Carwash Fringe Mini Skirt ($110, originally $220) is good because I can modernize it with cool tees. I know it's on sale, but I don't want to pay over a hundred dollars for it. Good thing I don't have to.

Check out this spunky Silence & Noise Flapper Skirt ($58). It's so much fun. Plus, it will satiate my appetite for something fringe but won't be as taxing on my wallet. I can't wait to dress it up with heels and play it down with Converse sneakers.
