I recently accompanied my friend on her hunt for the perfect party dress. Not too long after our search we discovered this Banana Republic Silk Maxi Dress in Peacock ($175). It looked good on the hanger but came to life when she slipped it on. Maxis tend to have that breath-taking effect. They make you look long and lean, especially if you wear your tallest heels. If you're in the mood for a long dress this year, take it to the maxi. Shorter gals, don't overlook the maxi; my friend is 5'2" and it made her look heads taller.

Victoria Beckham wore seven-inch heels to shop around NYC yesterday with her baby girl Harper. It seems the Beckham ladies may be bidding farewell to the Big Apple. Victoria recently tweeted, "Fantastic fashion week! Thank you to my amazing Victoria Beckham team." The last few days saw Victoria present not one but two collections. Her first, her namesake line, debuted Sunday to rave reviews following a show at the New York Public Library. Posh then went on to premiere her Victoria by Victoria Beckham dresses, which are at a lower price point and are slightly more casual. She included one frock that was covered in a sizable cat print - the design, she said, stemmed from her desire for a cat. She told editors at the preview, "I'm very into conversational prints this season. . . . I want a cat, but David won't let me have one – he doesn't want them bringing mice in the house. He's a dog person."
