See the Entire Edgy Gareth Pugh For MAC Collection!

MAC Cosmetics is known for its high-fashion makeup, and Gareth Pugh is known for his avant-garde designs, so it just makes sense that the two would combine for a truly high-fashion mashup. Coming Nov. 23 (and available until Dec. 23) is the limited-edition Gareth Pugh For MAC collection.

"When creating my makeup collection with MAC I wanted it to be unexpected - creating something truly beautiful, very sophisticated, and incredibly chic but of course - with an underlying edge of darkness and attitude," Pugh said in a statement.

Colors in the line strike a balance between strong and ethereal, with hues such as deep blues, purples, silvers, and iridescents woven throughout. From angular lashes to butterfly-wing-inspired polishes, see it all up close now.

Futuristic-Looking Gold and Metallic Blue Eye Patches at Gareth Pugh

While it's not exactly a look you'd likely wear out, perhaps you can find some sort of inspiration in Gareth Pugh's latest collection. For the designer's 2011 Fall Paris Fashion Week show, makeup artist Alex Box created a palette that C-3PO-, sci-fi-, and avant-garde-lovers everywhere are sure to love. For the pièce de résistance, otherwise known as the mesmerizing metallic plates molded around the eyes, retroreflective gold or blue fabric pieces (that actually turned bright white against flashes of light) were cut out and glued on to the skin.

Then, to complete the futuristic-looking theme, just a touch of Studio Sculpt Foundation ($30) was used on the complexion, Clear Lipglass ($15) was dabbed on the cheekbones, and Lip Conditioner ($15) gave a touch of hydration to the models' lips.

Gareth Pugh Does a Heavy Metal Manicure

Leave it to Gareth Pugh to develop what may be the wildest manicure to hit the Paris runways this week. The designer, whose wild aesthetic is favored by stars like Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, created a steely, strong collection. To complement the look, nail technician Marian Newman created manicures that dripped with small chains. "The silhouette of the collection was angular with the occasional hint of softness, so I translated this onto many of the nails for the girls," she explained. To get the chevron effect, she painted nails with CND Ivory Coast polish before blending strokes of CND Blackjack polish. She then applied small chains - miniature versions of those seen on the clothes - to create a truly tough-girl effect.

21 Hair and Makeup Looks You WON'T Be Wearing Come Spring

From the runways onto department and drugstore shelves, I'm sure we'll see lots of fresh new makeup options and application techniques go full circle come March. Last month in New York, we saw six very wearable trends emerge, from peach lips to bold eyeliner to heavy-handed under-the-eye liners. But throughout the course of New York Fashion Week and other Spring 2010 shows, including Paris, London, and Milan, there were other looks that won't quite make the transition. Take this sequin forehead heart-shaped applique, for instance - straight from the Ungaro show in Paris, for which Lindsay Lohan acted as artistic adviser. While I appreciate each and every designer's artistic flair, some looks just won't translate to real life. See what I mean now.

Spring Peek: Geo Max

The opposing force of Luxotica is Geo Max. For the rare days I'm not feeling like an island girl and want to be serious, graphic prints, stripes, 3-D shapes, and polka dots will modernize my look. Most of these equations came in black and white, with the occasional blue, but one of my favorite Spring collections - Dries Van Noten - delivered it in marigold. The happy color made the geo seem less max, know what I mean? Notice the bold accessories though. Michael Kors also delivered his dots with whimsy, while on the flip side, Gareth Pugh took his dolls to space and back. Small doses, or to the max, choose your poison.

Attack of the LBD

How many LBDs do you own? And I bet they're all pretty different, right? Some are casual, some are fancy, some modern, some classic. It's safe to say a gal can never have enough LBDs. There's a reason it's mentioned on every fashion essential list. A testament to the versatility and diversity of the LBD is a recent influx of them on actresses, singers, and models. And yet, I'm not sick of it. I mean, you put Beyonce in a Gareth Pugh LBD and wicked metal glove, and it's a whole new vision. Take a look at all the incarnations of the LBD and I guarantee you won't get bored, either.

Fall Glimpse: Tales From the Dark Side

When there's salt, there's pepper. Hot and cold. Light and dark. You catch my drift. In fashion, we are always presented with another side of the coin. If Ice Ice Baby isn't your tune, try watching Tales From the Dark Side.

Some of these designers always cater to the dark lords of fashion - London's Gareth Pugh, Givenchy's Ricardo Tisci. A few just felt like dipping in murky waters for Fall: Julien Macdonald's dark glam rockin' looks and Gucci's fabulous folky getups. Meanwhile, Alexander Wang is proving to be the connoisseur of downtown (dis)taste. But no one told a tall tale like Ann Demeulemeester and her posh tatterdemalions (left).
