I'm a big fan of comics and comic-inspired fashion, so I immediately fell in love when I saw these Comic Sound Effect Headbands ($20-$23) on Etsy. Though, I'm not sure where I'd wear one, I know just the gal who could pull them off - Katy Perry. She's worn everything from fruit to record players in her hair on the red carpet. Why not a comic-inspired outfit for the 2012 award show season?

Good news is, that while each headband ranges in price, most remain affordable at around $23. See? You don't have to be a platinum-selling artist to look like a red carpet hottie.

Kate Spade never fails to impress on the cute factor (recall her jingle bell headband from last year), and this year's festive hair accessory offering does not disappoint.

The gold-toned curling ribbon bow headband ($75) has a bit of a whimsical look, but it's not too over the top that it's ugly-Christmas-sweater-style gaudy. Wear it with a sleek ponytail or smooth blowout, or jazz it up by pairing it with a voluminous coiffure.

Tip: if you're feeling crafty, customize your own holiday-worthy head-topper by attaching real curling ribbon to a plain headband. To keep the ribbon from collapsing, be sure to first spray it with a stiffener, such as Stiffen Quik ($6).

Headbands have been trendy for years now, and we've also seen a resurgence of big-time hairstyles. (Thank you, Bumpits.) Now, some stars are combining the two together to form a volumized, dressed-up look. Lily Collins, for instance, recently opted for a midcentury take on the trend, wearing baby bangs and a sleek, full-of-volume updo that was topped off with a simple black headband. Kourtney Kardashian and Hilary Duff, however, went for a more modern version of the style, accentuating their striking hair accessories with tousled waves.

Fall will always be a time to sport natural, easy hairstyles, but with all of the bold makeup looks we've been seeing lately, and the dramatic coiffures pictured above, perhaps this year is a return to something a bit more glamorous.

Garlands have been showing up everywhere for several months now, and they're poised to be the next big hair accessory trend. The latest, prettiest iteration on the look (and by far the most wearable) is the simple gold daisy chains we saw on models at the Valentino show at 2011 Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. Slender chain garlands are much less obtrusive than a wreath, and low-key enough to wear any time.

Luckily, it's easy to make your own wreath out of an inexpensive gold-toned charm necklace. All you do is pin the ends of the chain together in the back. There are plenty of cute, inexpensive pieces that look a lot like the Valentino chains, too, like Cath Kidston's short floral necklace ($17, no. 4) or this gold and pearl charm necklace ($57, no. 2) from Blu Bijoux. If you want a readymade double band, Forever 21's flower charm necklace ($3, no. 1) is a bargain.

And if you're not comfortable making your own, there are also some very similar headbands available, like this silver double-banded L. Erickson engaged headband ($32, no. 3) and this glitzy beaded headwrap ($6, no. 5), also from Forever 21.

Will You Sport a Turban This Summer?

The turban has been around a loooong time, had a resurgence in the late '60s and early '70s when Elizabeth Taylor and Marisa Berenson showed how cool they could be, and is once again making a comeback. SJP looked glam in SATC2, Moschino showed them on the runway, Arlenis Sosa sizzled in a swimsuit/turban combo, and we spotted this navy and brown spotted turban from Anthropologie ($178), with which we promptly fell in love. We think it would look ultra chic with a fitted sheath dress, black shades, and a red lip. What's your opinion?
