Fab Finds of The Week: Headgear

Headgear received lukewarm praise a couple months back. But I see funky headbands and hats have caught some of your Fab Finding eyes. I for one have always liked headgear. Hats and headbands are a functional and cute way to give hair a day off. The hottest crop of headgear we are seeing is in the form of turbans, and while this look isn't for everyone, those knotted turban headbands I've been seeing are pretty irresistible - especially the ones in the jeweled toned spread in this month's Domino magazine. I was just on the hunt for one that wasn't $40 but more in the $5 range; my solution ended up being a score at a cheapo accessories store and some needle and thread - more on my D.I.Y. turban headband method later.

For now, the Fab Finder of the week is atripp for finding the black turban headband that jump started my search. Anne, Christian, and Tom Spend Their Days on The Dark Knight Rises

Anne Hathaway bundled up in a parka on Friday as she made her way to The Dark Knight Rises set in Newark, NJ. Yesterday, Christian Bale and Tom Hardy were spotted filming together a short distance away in NYC. The guys both relaxed in casual clothes between takes, but were in full costume as they shot a scene together, with Tom sporting some scary headgear as the villain Bane. The next installment in the Batman franchise has been filming on both coasts, and the cast and crew spent much of September shooting in LA, where the ambitious production frequently shut down much of downtown. During her stay in the City of Angels, Anne took time to honor one of her male costars, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as he picked up the Best Actor honor at the Hollywood Film Awards for his portrayal of a 20-something cancer patient in 50/50.

Sarah Jessica Parker Has a Hair-Raising Experience at the Melbourne Races

Sarah Jessica Parker dressed up for an appearance at the Flemington Racecourse in Australia this morning. It's Crown Oaks Day, which marks the third day of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. SJP wasn't the only famous face in the crowd since Elizabeth Hurley and her fiancé Shane Warne also checked out the festivities from a VIP box. Sarah Jessica kicked off the celebrations yesterday at a ladies lunch at the Oaks Club, where she donned an over-the-top Philip Treacy hat. The star continued sporting fun headgear this afternoon with a jeweled piece.

SJP's been Down Under all week promoting I Don't Know How She Does It around the country. Her travels mean that she wasn't home in NYC for Halloween, but her husband Matthew Broderick took care of trick-or-treating duties. He hit the streets of Manhattan with a dressed-up James Wilkie, and twins Tabitha and Loretta, who were a strawberry and a sheep.

Sarah Jessica Parker broke out a number from her milliner friend Philip Treacy for the VRC Oaks Club Ladies Luncheon at Melbourne's Crown Palladium this afternoon. Paired with a Chanel dress, it was an appropriate accessory for the meal that preceded tomorrow's Oak Day horse race.

The outsized hat was the latest of Philip's creations that SJP's worn. She also donned a green Philip Treacy fascinator to the London premiere of Sex and the City, the movie, back in 2008, and an enormous black topper for the sequel's UK screening in 2010! For an I Don't Know How She Does It event tonight, SJP put away the headgear and focused on high fashion instead. Sarah Jessica Parker wore Prabal Gurung's sequined purple dress from his Spring 2012 collection, after wearing another of his outfits for the Russian leg of her promotional tour back in August.

Rei Kawakubo always marches to the beat of her own tune and her Spring collection for Comme des Garcons showed us yet another striking statement from the designer. The collection, which Kawakubo described as "white drama", displayed gowns with references to marriage and death. Dramatic, as she sent one of the models down the runway in a duchesse satin wedding dress bound at the wrists - we can all guess the innuendo there. Meanwhile, lace veiled dresses, structured skirts that resembled cages, and capes with no armholes further the restrictive theme. The headgear designed by three different artists also played a big role in the collection, showing a range of abstract texture and structure. More details from the collection below.

Shia LaBeouf Grows a Pair . . . of Horns

Ever wonder what Shia LaBeouf would look like with a pair of horns in his curly hair? Me neither, but we're about to find out. The actor has signed on for Horns, a film adaptation of a novel by the same name. Shia will star as the protagonist Ig, a 26-year-old who wakes up to find that his girlfriend has been murdered and he's been cursed with some devilish new headgear.

The novel was written by Stephen King's son Joe Hill (who is also set to play exec producer), so it's no surprise that the film is being described as a "love story driven by horror and vengeance." Sounds like a creepy Pinocchio-type story to me, but I'm intrigued by the blend of fantasy, terror, and romance. Have you read the best-selling book? And can you see Shia in the role?
