I have to admit there's a lot of fashion's favorite color - black - in this week's favorites. But, to keep things lively, there's also a daring red Versace gown and a gorgeous teal draped Vionnet dress. It's a pretty well-rounded bunch, actually. But the crown goes to Anne Hathaway, who we haven't seen in a while, in her party-ready Marc Jacobs Resort dress. And check those big, bold earrings. Too cute. Cannes is slowly but surely gaining more star power. Here's Hilary Swank at the premiere of Looking For Eric - though in that glamorous gunmetal gown, everyone's going to be looking for her! There's lots going on with the dress - sheen, tiers, asymmetrical hem - but Cannes is the place to pull out all the stops. A layered pearl necklace, matching strappy sandals, and a light-gray Swarovski clutch serve as her accessory dates. How does she look?

2008 Fashion Rocks: Hilary Swank

The Fashion Rocks festivities have begun! First we have Hilary Swank looking quite sophisticated on the Radio City Music Hall red carpet in her purple satin one-shoulder frock. Check out the pleats and folds on that dress. The sandals match perfectly with her dress, and the metallic clutch and silver cuff bracelet are nice finishing touches. Oscars Trend: Film Noir

Wasn't I just praising jet hued gowns of Oscars past? Call it red carpet ESP, or a mere coincidence, but many ladies dared to go bold in noir colored gowns at this year's Oscars. Some of them I love - Penelope's feathery Chanel and Swank's embellished Versace - and some fell flat for me, mainly, Garner's ruffled Oscar de la Renta. Alas, these all have something in common: they're black, but far from boring.

The way I see it, this is the chance for stars to shine, so I've got no love for those who dim in the spotlight. Whether it be a bold color, a shocking silhouette, or breathtaking bling, all these ladies have stepped up to the Oscars plate. In no particular order - although Emily Blunt stole my heart in Calvin Klein at the Oscars last year - I present to you my best-dressed list of Oscars past . . . Ready for the Oscars? Actress Hilary Swank really outdid herself at the P.S. I Love You premiere in Ireland. Her white Yves Saint Laurent corset-top dress is one of the most ethereal we've seen her in yet. The golden accessories - the minaudiere, shoes, earrings, mesh bracelet, and ring - add a touch of shine and class. If this is how Hilary is going to dress from now on, then I definitely want to see more of her on the red carpet.
