Victoria Beckham Talks Insecurities and Inspiration in i-D

Victoria Beckham gets quirky on the cover of i-D magazine's "Whatever the Weather" issue, which hits newsstands on Feb. 9. She posed in skimpy clothes for the playful spread after also donning a leotard in Numéro Tokyo last month. Victoria's been working on her collection in London as she gears up for Fashion Week while her husband, David, recently debuted his own underwear line for H&M. Victoria chatted about her insecurities and inspiration for her clothes in the publication. Here's more from Victoria Beckham in i-D magazine:

On her changing style: "When I started it was all about the corset dress. That's what people associated me with, and possibly if I'm honest a sign of my own insecurities as well. But the older I get and the more comfortable I am in my own skin, the more I realise that to look great and feel great I haven't always got to wear something tight."
On her design inspiration: "I don't follow fashion and I don't follow trends, I just follow my instincts and think what do I want to wear? What am I feeling for next season?"

On the Winter '09 cover of i-D Magazine, the three show us their winking prowess. Makes you want to practice yours, huh? If I were to adopt a winking style based on this, I think I'd go the Claudia route - pure, unabashed flirtation. Eva's is more a bedroom eyes approach, while Helena subtly reveals one gorgeous green eye. They all have wild, curly glam hair and show just enough skin, but which Super has the sassiest wink?

Victoria and Harper Beckham Catch a Fashionable Flight For Fashion Week

Victoria Beckham carried a plaid-dress-wearing Harper into LAX this afternoon. The duo is headed to NYC, where Victoria will show her Fall collection at Fashion Week on Sunday. Victoria spent much of last month in London ringing in the New Year with her family and working on her latest designs, which she's started promoting with multiple magazine spreads. Victoria's post-baby body was on display in front of the cameras for the first time in Numéro Tokyo, and she more recently made a quirky appearance on the cover of i-D magazine's "Whatever the Weather" issue.

It was Victoria's husband David who turned heads this weekend though, when his sexy, shirtless H&M ad aired during the Super Bowl. David shared his embarrassment at watching the commercial with his family and friends when he chatted with Ryan Seacrest this morning.

Vanity Fair Celebrates Fresh Young Stars Like Rooney, Mia, Jennifer, and Jessica

Rooney Mara, Mia Wasikowska, Jennifer Lawrence, and Jessica Chastain have the honor of being on the very front cover of March 2012's Vanity Fair. It's the publication's "Fresh Young Stars of 2012" issue, featuring 11 up-and-coming actresses. Inside the cover fold, Elizabeth Olsen, Adepero Oduye, Shailene Woodley, Paula Patton, Felicity Jones, Lily Collins, and Brit Marling are also featured. Mario Testino gathered them all together for a recent photo shoot - click through to see the full image of all 11 together!

The last 12 months have been big for each of the ladies, in particular Rooney, Mia, Jennifer, and Jessica. Rooney just scored an Oscar nomination for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, as did Jessica for The Help. Mia's Albert Nobbs got a great deal of award season love, and Jennifer is looking forward to the release of her huge series The Hunger Games. The actresses opened up for the magazine about their careers, childhood crushes, and more. They said:

Jessica on her superstar crush: "Ralph Fiennes. The English Patient. Of course. Those love scenes!"
Jennifer on who else she'd like to work with: "I'd love to work with the Coen brothers. Tommy Lee Jones. Jack Nicholson. And I'd love to work with Renée Zellweger. I'm a huge Renée Zellweger fan."
Rooney on her crush growing up: "Thom Yorke."
Jennifer on her childhood crush: "When I was little, like '90s era, I had such a big crush on Justin Timberlake from *NSYNC that I almost threw up."
Mia on someone she'd like to work with: "I just saw We Need to Talk About Kevin, and I'm a huge fan of
Tilda Swinton, and I'm hopefully going to work with her next year. She's one of my favorites. And that movie was probably one of my favorites of the year."

Ruth Reichl: "American Food Is the Best in the World Right Now"

This weekend, food artisans from around the country are being honored in the second annual Good Food Awards, which celebrate American food producers who enhance the country's agricultural landscape and help to build community. While the awards are relatively new to the gastronomic landscape, they're already backed by some of the country's biggest food influencers, such as Whole Foods, and seminal culinary figures, like Ruth Reichl.
Ruth is currently the editorial adviser at Gilt Taste, another cosponsor of this weekend's Good Food Awards. The author, former New York Times food critic, and final Gourmet editor sat down with me over dinner at Mission Chinese Food to talk more about good food and future projects.

YumSugar: Tell me about the partnership between Gilt Taste and the Good Food Awards. How did it come about?
Ruth Reichl: I've known Sarah [Weiner, the director] for a long time, and we've been talking about this for a long time. When I went to Gilt Taste, it just seemed like a seamless, natural partnership, finding and supporting food artisans in America.

YS: You're the keynote speaker at this year's Good Food Awards. What kind of a legacy do these awards create?
RR: It's hard for younger people to understand how bad things were in America, a time when all food was essentially industrial. There were no farmers markets. I have an interview with Wolfgang Puck that I did in 1982 where he goes, "Six years ago, there was no decent food in America." Now, there's this explosion of farmers markets, and while so much of the world is abandoning their food heritage, Americans are reclaiming theirs before it gets lost . . . We have these two completely parallel, simultaneous, and opposite tracks: on the one hand, people with money who eat organic, sustainable, handmade food. But if you're a poor person, you're stuck eating stuff that's cheaper than food and that will kill you. Food safety in this country becomes a worse and worse issue; we import more and more food; 80 percent of the antibiotics in this country go to perfectly healthy animals. We have a real crisis on the one hand - and on the other hand, we have, for the first time, an awareness of it. Which is quite stunning.

I really do think American food is the best in the world right now, because of the people making the kind of food that goes to the Good Food Awards. We have to nurture it, and make sure that it doesn't just stay with us in this little enclave.

YS: There's movement toward eating a plant-based diet. What do you think of that?

Braised White Beans

The braised white beans pictured below aren't just legendary; they also happen to be totally vegan. Thanks to Fresh Tart for sharing.

These may look like ordinary white beans but they're actually the cool-girl beans in town, swooned over on Twitter, gossiped about on Facebook, photographed and copied and seriously in demand. I'd love to take credit for the fabulous recipe but no, these are via Chef Adam Vickerman of Cafe Levain, who now has the lady food bloggers in town batting their eyelashes over beans.

The flirtation began last spring, at a California Olive Ranch-sponsored dinner at Levain. As the beans were served, an audible murmur went through the room as the ladies realized that the delicious dish was not only vegetarian but vegan. I myself was inspired and without asking Adam for his recipe, made my own version of braised beans with rosemary and arugula when I wrote about the event.

Brad Goreski Spills On His Upcoming Reality Show, Styling Tips, and Dream Clients

Brad Goreski is on the fast track to fashion success: with a book deal in the works and his own reality show, It's a Brad, Brad World, premiering on Bravo Jan. 2, the assistant-turned-superstylist is quickly making a name for himself in the industry. In addition to his suave ensembles (can he look any cuter in a bow tie?) and magnetic personality, Brad is positioning himself as a star in the styling realm with his keen eye for detail and A-list celebrity clientele - a roster of women that includes Jessica Alba, Rashida Jones, Christina Ricci, and Demi Moore. We caught up with Brad to talk about his solo TV debut, favorite fashion trends, and which celebs he's hoping to dress next.

FabSugar: Congrats on the new show! What can we expect to see this season?
Brad Goreski: It's a bit of a balance; the show is very focused on me building my brand, so you'll see how I transition from an assistant role to lead stylist, so people will really get to see how I work and how I develop my process. But yes, my family life and personal life is a big focus as well - I wanted to show people the other side of my life; my great boyfriend, my great family, and how they make me who I am.

FS: What were some of your career highlights in 2011?
BG: I would say one of my biggest was definitely styling Jessica Alba for the BAFTA Awards [in Atelier Versace] and also at the Met Gala! She looked amazing. Also, I had a great time on my Details magazine shoot, and the editorial I did with Liya Kebede for the March issue of InStyle was a highlight as well.

Carey Mulligan Tells W About Facing Her Nude Scene Fears in Shame

Carey Mulligan shows some skin on the cover of W's January 2012 issue. She's been off in Australia working on The Great Gatsby with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, but it's her most recent release, Shame, that she discussed with the magazine. The Steve McQueen-directed movie earned a NC-17 rating for its graphic sex and frequent nude scenes, and leading man Michael Fassbender has gotten a great deal of attention for the amount of time he spends in the buff. Carey also has her moment sans clothes, and she spoke about that, as well as getting the role and her start in acting, with the publication. Carey Mulligan told W:

On going nude in Shame: "I’ve never been comfortable with the idea of nudity . . . When it came to this, it just seemed so obvious that she is the sort of person who would have no trouble being naked in front of any family member, especially not her brother . . . I thought I had a week before the nude scene to go to the gym, but we shot it on my first day of filming."
On wanting the role in the picture: "When I read the script, I found it terrifying. My English agents sent it to me and said, 'There’s this amazing part.' For me, as an actor, it was sort of scary. I’d seen Hunger, which was done by Steve McQueen, the director of Shame, and I thought it was just incredible. And I’d always wanted to work with Michael Fassbender, who had been cast as the brother. So, I asked to have a meeting with Steve to pitch myself for the job."
On being dramatic as a child: "I would put my earphones on and sing along to soundtracks of musicals like Les Misérables. I’d act it out in the mirror and cry. When I was 11 or 12, I asked my parents about going to a performing arts school, and they said no. Although I did audition to be a presenter on a TV show called Dig It."
