Emmanuelle Alt, who assumed the reins of French Vogue from Carine Roitfeld, shot Gisele for her first cover as editor-in-chief. Claire Danes has quite the tough act to follow. It was announced today that she is replacing Drew Barrymore, who was Gucci's first ever celebrity campaign face, as the Gucci Fine Jewelry girl.

Drew's ads were stunning, and hopefully Claire's will be just as iconic - she's being photographed by the same duo as Drew - Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

As for the reasoning behind the choice, Gucci's designer Frida Giannini explains: "Claire's sensual, confident beauty and her passionate, independent, and strong character embodies today's Gucci woman." The ads are set to debut this Fall.

I think it's safe to say if you book Kate Moss for an ad campaign she can single-handedly ameliorate the brand. Then, choose to have hubbie/wife duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shoot, and, well, you get something quite fabulous. As you know I'm on a YSL kick, especially in the handbag arena, and the designer of 2007, Alber Elbaz, may have some stiff competition in the Year of the Rat. As for Kate, she's the chic girl who would never be caught yearning for fashion through a store window, but she is. That's the power of YSL.

Print ads are great, but there's something about videos that take campaigns to the next level of fashion greatness. And that's exactly what Stefano Pilati did, along with Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, for Yves Saint Laurent's Spring collection. Like the hard copy, the scene took place in the gardens of a 1930s villa in Marrakech's Palmeraie resort, reminding us of Yves Saint Laurent's love for Morocco. Inez and Vinoodh beautifully captured video shows Arizona fading in and out of palm trees all while wearing exquisitely cut gowns and jumpsuits from the collection. Naomi Watts and Eva Mendes were together in NYC last night to attend a bash thrown by Thierry Mugler. Former face of the brand's Angel fragrance Naomi was there to celebrate the title being passed to Eva, who stars in the latest ads. Eva sparkled on the pale blue carpet in a dress from Mugler's creative director and close Lady Gaga pal Nicola Formichetti. Naomi's moved on to a beauty contract with Pantene, and we recently got her Summer beauty tips at another Big Apple event. Eva Mendes's new campaign with Thierry Mugler was shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, and the accompanying TV spot will even feature her singing! Eva spoke yesterday about all the hard work that goes into making her look so fantastic for Mugler, saying she more thinks of herself as cute. Eva Mendes said of her looks, "I'd rather be on team cute because I think it's harder to be cute. I think when a guy pays me that compliment of being cute or adorable that feels like a real compliment . . . because being hot I think is all smoke and mirrors. I mean at a certain point! I think it takes more personality to be cute so I think it's more of a deeper compliment."
