Whether she was performing her first lady duties or vacationing on a yacht with her second husband Aristotle Onassis, Jackie was always put together - the world never caught her in sweat pants. I recently visited Anthropologie and was sidetracked by a fabulous book: What Would Jackie Do? An Inspired Guide to Distinctive Living by Shelly Branch and Sue Callaway ($13). If you admire Jackie O as much as I do, you will fall in love with this book. It offers fun life and fashion tips based on what the authors have learned from Jackie's grandiose life. An example? Book your flight through an airport where the agents are apt to be less savvy about recognizing Prada. Smart!

Calling all Jackie O aficionados! Your former first lady of pill box hats, oversized sunglasses, and little skirts suits would proudly wear a silk shantung sixties A-line coat just like this one, which comes in a size medium; I doubt she would have paid $27 for hers though.

Not many people know about one of Parker Posey's best roles ever. In the film The House of Yes she plays a fabulous albeit slightly deranged girl with a dangerous obsession with Jackie Kennedy Onassis. She demands to be called Jackie O, wears sharp little suits and tops them off with pill box hats. She ends up being a lunatic, but she's fabulous along the way. No wonder she emulated the iconic first lady; Jackie O was the cat's meow.

The widow of U.S. president John F. Kennedy, Jackie O, as the tabloids dubbed her, remains an American icon of high style and grace. From the aforementioned pill box hats, to mini shift dresses, to caftans, to flats, and who can forget her biggie O sunglasses, she has forever put her stamp on style. As well, she was no doubt the most fashion forward first ladies. Not only was she buds with Valentino, Gucci named the "Jackie" bag after her which sold a record 6,000 pieces when relaunched in 1999.

Known for her elegant sophistication and her historical interest in the White House, in 1968, five years after JFK's death, she married wealthy Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis. After Onassis' death in 1975 - sad! - Jackie settled in Manhattan and began working as an editor for Doubleday, a job she continued until her death in 1994. She was buried next to Kennedy in Arlington National Cemetery. May her style, grace and strength live on.

Steve Madden's Eyelet Sheath Dress, on sale for $105 (originally 158), is very similar to the Black Halo version. The only difference is the fabric, but I actually like the eyelet detail because it gives it some texture. Oh, and it's a tad shorter than the original version. Me likes!

First Lady Style: Michelle Obama in Isabel Toledo

Yellow. Lemongrass, to be exact. It's a known fact that yellow is an uplifting, optimistic color. What better choice, then, for the new first lady for the swearing-in ceremony this morning. While her tots wore colorful J.Crew Crewcuts (so cute), Michelle continued the delight in a custom Isabel Toledo coat and dress. The Cuban-born designer did not know this would be Michelle's choice today - imagine the designer's delight.The delicious design was quite luxurious, made of Swiss wool lace, backed with netting for warmth, and lined in pale pink French silk. About the cheery color, “I wanted to pick a very optimistic color, that had sunshine,” Toledo said. Michelle didn't stop the color there. Her olive green leather gloves and teal Jimmy Choo shoes were unexpected additions. I know everyone is comparing Michelle to Jackie O, but Jackie would definitely approve of this. What I adore most about Michelle's look is the texture, the slight overall sparkle, and fancy neckline. Not in a long while has a first lady experimented with color, texture, and embellishments.

Fab Blab: Celebrity Stylist Robert Verdi Gabs About Michelle Obama Style

Robert Verdi and I go way back. I first met him when I attended my first New York Fashion Week, when he was still host of Full Frontal Fashion on Metro TV in New York. The year was 2000 and he was asking my stylish roomie and me about our outfits. For Fashion Institute of Technology sophomores, that's a big deal. Plus, he went to F.I.T. too so we just gabbed and gabbed. Verdi is still very much around styling Eva Longoria, interior designing for the stars, hosting television shows and speaking to us about our next first lady's style at the Juicy Couture 5th Avenue store opening party. He's not the gushing type, and he spoke a bit about the Jackie O comparison people have been making. Nonetheless, interesting stuff. Listen up!

“Here’s the skinny: She looked like a lava lamp [after Obama's acceptance speech] and we all know that. I didn’t like that light bright dress and I think she could have made a better choice. I like that she wore an American designer, I think she should continue to wear American fashion and speak the style of the nation in her public appearances and then move towards an international flavor."

People have been likening her to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis who was a grand dame, of course, an iconic American fashion. But the similarities are that they both like fashion and they both embrace contemporary style. The difference is that at Jacqueline Kennedy’s time, style was really something that was distant from the people. So she wore Gucci and Halston and people couldn’t go to H&M - they couldn’t go to Juicy Couture. I think Michelle does the same thing. She does contemporary fashion but what’s contemporary today is much broader and much more affordable. I do hope that she kind of polishes it up and wears more stylish versions because she’s worn some, like I said, provincial things.”

I just came across a photo of Lolita wearing the scarf as a sweetheart-style top. I know scarves are sometimes worn as tops, but hers doesn't look like a scarf worn as a top; it looks like a top.

This Week's Fab Favorite: Michelle Obama

If you thought Michelle Obama's teal Maria Pinto sheath was Fab, get a load of her in Thakoon. When was the last time we saw a lady of politics in a print? And, a neckline with some flair? As well, you all know I love the red and purple color combination so I'd love this dress on anyone. But not just anyone wore it last night at the Democratic National Convention. This choice doesn't come as surprise to fashion followers.

Not only was Michelle on Vanity Fair's International Best Dressed list this year, she has been wearing an interesting mix of designers like Isabel Toledo, Tom Binns, and White House Black Market - she is playing the fashion field. This Summer she attended a fund-raiser in her honor in New York where fashion folks Zac Posen, Iman, Tory Burch, Catherine Malandrino, and many more sang praise to the potential First Lady. But this Thakoon Resort printed sheath is stellar; it's unique, festive, and professional. Her minimal jewelry is a must with such a stand-alone dress and her black patent flats have Jackie O written all over them.
