I wasn't going to leave you hanging after my first New York Fashion Week roundup. A lot happens in two days here. Adam Lippes, Thakoon, Zac Posen, Tracy Reese, Rebecca Taylor, DKNY, Christian Siriano, Carlos Miele - a lot. Trends are starting to surface: neutrals are ruling the runways, but luckily orange and blues are brightening things up; cutouts and draping are fabric treatments of choice; and sunglasses are soon to be the next hot accessory. We've been experiencing shoulder love for a couple seasons now and we agree shoulder pads are debatable. But for Fall, designers flounced and fluffed fabrics on all sorts of terrain. Front and center on a frock, cascading down a train, at the hip(s), along a hemline, and yes, on shoulders. I'm forever intrigued by bloodsuckers, but the sexiest monster has once again been popularized with the successes of Twilight and True Blood. I'm actually surprised I didn't see more gothic romance on the Fall runways; then again, we still have London, Milan, and Paris to go. A handful of New York designers delivered sultry, moody looks complete with sharp black outwear, ruffled blouses, lace aplenty, blood-colored tights and tulle, and neck-baring sexiness. Jill Stuart showed a youthful, slightly '80s version that would have garnered any Lost Boy's attention.

Ten Reasons to Love Jill Stuart Fall '09

With a palette of black and ivory dominating her Fall collection, Jill Stuart still had plenty of pizzazz. With the essence I can only explain as vampire, this collection was frilly, fierce, and fabulously girlie. From the flowered fedoras to the dominatrix heels, what lay between was a mismatch of lace, knits, leather, fur, and velvet. A few spectacular LBDs reminded me Stuart knows how to party; leather pants dressed the after party. With a PYT-filled front row, Hilton sisters Paris and Nicky clowned around throughout the show. Jill Stuart is pretty messy. No really, her Spring collection was pretty, and messy. Stuart was inspired by the ballet La Bayadère, which she saw last Summer. And now I'm inspired to layer sheers and whisper light jerseys, wrap random pieces of fabric around my torso, and even wear a head scarf. Stuart's angelic ballet dancers graced the runway in cloudy tones of gray, pink, peach, and ivory - added black supplied some seriousness. The accessories were Fab: musical, long, mixed-media necklaces, net-like socks, caged sandals, and light and leathery handbags. I was even attracted to the heather gray leggings and silk boxer shorts; must be the dancer in me wanting to cut a rug.

Trend Alert: Heavy Metal

I don't know if 15-year-old Taylor Momsen, of Gossip Girl fame, is really into heavy metal. However, I saw Guns n' Roses (and Metallica) when I was 12 so I was a wee rockin' chick. But she certainly played the part recently in Yves Saint Laurent, black leather, shimmering jewels, and smoky eyes. I would like to advocate that one should only attempt this look if they have rock in their soul, or the rock gods would not approve . . .
