Busy Picnics With Tracy Reese and Friends and Talks Award-Season Memories With Michelle

Busy Philipps, Kate Mara, Emma Roberts, and Mena Suvari turned up at the Viceroy hotel in Santa Monica this afternoon for a luncheon hosted by Clos du Bois wines and fashion designer Tracy Reese. Tracy unveiled her new "Chic Picnique" picnic basket, lined in one of her signature prints, in partnership with the winemaker at the event. She also outfitted her celeb friends in attendance in some of her latest Spring looks. We caught up with Busy during the afternoon soiree to talk about what's next for Laurie on Cougar Town and to hear about some of her favorite award-season adventures with her good friend Michelle Williams. Check out some highlights from our chat:

PopSugar: How's the show going?
Busy Philipps: It's great. We're done for the season. We're done filming. We were so excited for it to come back on the air, and now we're just hoping that more people start figuring out that we're on Tuesday nights at 8:30, and tuning in.
PS: That's always hard, though, when you switch times.
BP: It's the worst, it's terrible. And I really feel sad about it. I wish that more people were tuning in . . . You know, we are a show like Community that has loyal, hardcore fans and for that I am so grateful. It's amazing to be a part of something that people feel so strongly about. We just want to reach the other 85 percent of the population. I hope that they tune in!
PS: And what about Laurie's new boyfriend? What will happen with that as the season goes on?
BP: We're going to see him via Skype and we have a pretty intense connection. And then, he may or may not show up at the end. In real life, in person.
PS: You and Michelle obviously had a busy award season. What was the most fun part memory or event you two attended?
BP: The Golden Globes night was really, really, fun. It was fun because she won. And then, honestly Oscars night was incredibly fun. And we had a great time and we were out very, very, very, very, very late - or early. Which, for two moms, is a big deal. It's funny that that's like, what we are now . . . because we became friends when we were in our very early 20s. It's a totally different lifestyle, but occasionally we get to relive those moments of our early 20s together.

For tonight's festivities, Kate went for Spring sweet in a blush-toned, floral bead-embellished Jack Guisso couture gown. But the real romance of it can be spotted in both the bow-tie detail at the waistline and the swept-away vibe of the draped shoulder. Amy, Jessica, and More Step Out For a Charitable Vanity Fair Party

Amy Adams, Malin Akerman, and Jessica Chastain were among the stars who turned out for a Vanity Fair and Juicy Couture bash last night at LA's Siren Studios. Shailene Woodley hosted the party as well, as it was held to benefit her All It Takes charity. Many of the attendees are on the front of Vanity Fair's young Hollywood issue, including Jessica, Shailene, and Paula Patton.

The red carpet also brought out Hayden Panettiere, Anna Kendrick, Stacy Keibler, Kate Mara, and a pregnant Molly Sims. Jessica turned heads while posing for the photographers thanks to her plunging dress from Alexander McQueen. Amy kept things simple in a dark ensemble, while Malin upped the glam factor in black and white J.Mendel.

Rooney Mara Rocks Her Latest Dramatic Dress For a NYC Dragon Tattoo Premiere

Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara made their latest The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo press stop in NYC last night. The stars of the film reconvened at the Big Apple's Ziegfeld Theatre for their stateside premiere after also showing off the film in Stockholm and London this week. Rooney's promotional tour style has included lots of cutout dresses, and yesterday's was similar. She rocked a black frock from Prabal Gurung that featured a sheer back. Her big sister, actress Kate Mara, showed her support in coral Christian Dior.

We caught up with a number of Daniel's and Rooney's costars on the red carpet. Joely Richardson said you see a lot of Daniel, the person, in this performance, while Stellan Skarsgård thinks playing Lisbeth Salander will change Rooney's life. Christopher Plummer stepped out a few hours after earning a Screen Actors Guild Award nod for Beginners. He said, though, that he doesn't celebration nominations, just wins. Additionally, Embeth Davidtz told us that Daniel's character in the movie, Mikael Blomkvist, has one important thing in common with his James Bond - they're both handsome! Kate Mara and Max Minghella Join Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum For a Ten Year Reunion

The cast of Ten Year was in a celebratory mood last night as they prepartied and debuted their movie at the Toronto Film Festival. The stars, including couples Kate Mara and Max Minghella as well as Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum, kicked off their evening with a private reception hosted by Grey Goose at the Toronto Soho House. Their movie, which is about a high-school class coming together a decade after graduation, also stars actors like Chris Pratt and Lynn Collins. At the premiere's preparty, we spotted Justin Long chatting up Scott Speedman while Jenna Dewan, in a sexy hot-pink dress, and Channing Tatum made the rounds among the agents, producers, and fellow actors in attendance. Channing and Jenna made the trek to Canada to support the project in between their hectic shooting schedules. She's currently busy working on her soon-to-debut TV show, The Playboy Club, while he's been filming G.I. Joe: Retaliation in Louisiana.

Andrew Garfield, Megan Fox, Olivia Wilde, and Garrett Hedlund Bring Their Tans to the Maui Film Festival

The 2011 Maui Film Festival kicked off in Wailea yesterday with Megan Fox, Andrew Garfield, Olivia Wilde, and Garrett Hedlund on hand for the opening night. Megan was honored with the Iris Award for her support of the environment, as she returned to the islands where she was married to Brian Austin Green almost one year ago. Olivia, Andrew, and Garrett made the tropical trip a few days ahead of the festivities' start and have been working on their tans. Olivia hit the beach with a pal yesterday while Andrew was spotted surfing. He hasn't been seen shirtless like Zac Efron was at the 2010 Maui Film Festival, but Andrew has a few more days to show off his physique before being awarded with the shining star statue on Saturday. Olivia will also receive the shining star today, and Garrett will pick up the rising star award tomorrow.

HappyThankYouMorePlease: Pleasingly Precious

HappyThankYouMorePlease is the directorial debut of How I Met Your Mother's Josh Radnor, who wrote and stars in the indie romance. He plays Sam, a writer living in New York City in his late 20s. En route to a meeting, he happens upon a young boy named Rasheen, who's been left alone on the subway. Not sure what to do, Sam becomes Rasheen's reluctant guardian for the next few days. As ill-equipped Sam deals with his new charge and finds a possible love interest (Kate Mara), we meet his friends: unlucky-in-love Annie (Malin Akerman) and couple Mary Catherine and Charlie (Zoe Kazan and Pablo Schreiber).

Radnor's first feature is an impressive effort; the individual stories are only moderately compelling, but the slice of life he portrays makes for a disarming and completely enjoyable experience. To find out why else I liked about HappyThankYouMorePlease, just

The entire cast is charming, and each character is likable (even when Sam has a tendency to dip into stereotypical jerky male tendencies). The way he treats Mississippi (Mara), vacillating between puppy dog infatuation and freaked-out dismissal, is maddening, but only because it's how many men his age would behave. For her part, Mississippi's behavior is also realistic; she's charmed by Sam at first but wounded when he disappoints her.

Akerman is believable as the single Annie, who is affected by Alopecia, but even more afflicted by her poor choices in men. It's nice to see Akerman de-glammed and expressing real vulnerability. I appreciate it even more that Annie suffers from emotional pitfalls, but she's still a strong woman with multiple dimensions.

But perhaps the movie's great standout is Kazan. As Mary Catherine, she's hit a wall in her current relationship with her boyfriend, who's mulling a cross-country move for work. The struggle comes through in Kazan's eyes, even when she's cracking jokes to hide her true feelings. She's matched closely by Schreiber, who is caught between his love for Mary Catherine and his desire to move his life forward.

The real gems in Radnor's script lie in the documentation of mundane aspects of his character's lives. Their dialogue about dating and relationships feels authentic, and sometimes frighteningly familiar. Some lines are so relatable that you can't help but laugh. That's also Radnor's other strong suit; the script is often funny, and it's the humor that saves a lot of the contrived situations. Some of his plot points, like Rasheen's entrance into Sam's life, feel forced, while others feel overly cutesy. Still, the lens of optimism that's present throughout the film keeps it all afloat.
