Behind the Seams: Genevieve Jones and La Perla Collections Preview

Handbags, jewels, and lingerie mingled this week when social-cum-handbag/jewelry designer Genevieve Jones and La Perla showed off their latest collections at the La Perla Black Label boutique in NYC. The likes of Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and Elise Overland came out to ogle Genevieve's bling and La Perla's lacy underthings. Sounds like a win-win. Designer Zac Posen even showed up and nabbed a peck from the lady of the night, who, may I say, was dressed to impress.

Celebrity Style: Kristen Stewart

I'm glad the vampy Kristen Stewart continues to promote Twilight - that means we get to see her in outfits besides the ones on screen. The actress stuck to her usual dark palette at the UK premiere by choosing a charcoal gray one-shoulder La Perla frock. I like that the playful silhouette is tempered by the moody hue. A sassy silhouette and bright color would have been too much. On the accessory front, Kristen kept it simple with black pumps, a gold cuff, and a black cocktail ring. And dig her Edwardian coat, Edward would be proud.

I don't know about you, but if I saw someone wearing this La Perla Dragon Bra (call for pricing info), I'd run . . . fast! OK, in all seriousness, it's one helluva ferocious bra, or shall I say, weapon. I don't know how practical it is, but I'd love to sport it for a ~~kinky~~ romantic night. I just hope I wouldn't knock anyone unconscious with it. Do you love it or hate it?

It was good to be Constance Jablonski during the Spring '10 shows. The French stunner booked more shows - 72! - than any other model this season. Trailing behind her were Kasia Struss at 61 and Hanne Gaby Odiele at 56. So if Constance walked at least twice in each show, then that means she showed off about 144 looks. Whoa.

The 19-year-old is clearly a rising star; she has a tall, svelte bod, gorgeous blue eyes, just-right lips, and a perfect jaw. In the three years she's been in the industry, she's worked for Givenchy, Teen Vogue, Topshop, Donna Karan, La Perla, Moschino, Harper's Bazaar . . . the list goes on and on. Constance is a constant, so keep your eyes peeled.

Designer Spotlight: Steinunn

She cut her teeth at Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Gucci, and was design director at La Perla - the girl has some experience under her belt! Now, Icelandic designer Steinunn Sigurðar has branched out to do her own thing with her new eponymously-named line, Steinunn, which I got a chance to check out while I was in New York for fashion week!

The lady definitely has an affinity for shades of gray and black, triangular puckered detailing and bold ruffles. She cites her inspiration for her Spring 2008 collection as the volcanic landscape of Iceland and the sky and sea melting together on the horizon, which she translated into pretty gauzy ruffled tops, taffeta dresses, and bow-embellished skirts. It's very chic, feminine, but with a dark side, and a couple of Vogue editors were checking it out while I was there, if that's any indication...
