Project Runway winner, Leanne Marshall, has unveiled her collection for Bluefly and it looks just as yummy as her final PR collection. Her femme, yet futuristic cuts, are amazing and I love the vibrant hues of pink, purple, and blue. Do you hear the whispers? That majestic tiered skirt is calling my name. Look Book Love: Project Runway's Leanne Marshall, Fall '09

Cities and Skylines. That's what Project Runway season five winner Leanne Marshall calls her Fall '09 collection. "This collection was inspired by the repetitive skyline of my new home-base, New York City, and the fantasy of glamour that one has when moving to a big metropolis," she explains on her website. Just as with the Spring line she created for the show, I'm once again thoroughly impressed. There was a reason she stood out to the judges and that reason is her one-of-a-kind vision, gorgeous tiered details, perfect asymmetry, and use of striking colors. I am especially smitten with her use of gray and gold - one of my favorite Fall combos.

I'm totally infatuated with Project Runway season five winner Leanne Marshall's final collection. I loved how the palette was so restrained, just neutrals and a gorgeous turquoise; it really let the sculptural shape of the clothes shine. And although the collection did have an architectural quality, the pieces were still full of movement, with pleats that fluttered like a flock of birds bursting into the air.

I thought I'd see if I could capture the essence of the collection with a few home furnishings, and as usual, I was able to come up with some inspired finds. Not only did I discover a range of products in the same palette, but I also came across a handful of pieces with similar sculptural pleats, folds, and curves. To see for yourself,

Who's Your Favorite Project Runway Winner?

Now that Project Runway has closed out its fifth season by naming a new winner, it seems like a good time to look back on the Runway champions of past and present. Some (Christian Siriano) have truly embraced their 15 minutes in the spotlight; others (Chloe Dao) have kept somewhat of a lower profile. While we're waiting to see how Leanne uses her newfound fame, tell me: Which of Project Runway's five winners has been your favorite?

Congratulations . . . Leanne Marshall! The Project Runway Season Five Winner

Some of you restrained yourselves when I shared the final Project Runway collections in September. Then, it was still six designers in the running, so I witnessed final collections by Joe, Jerell, Suede, Kenley, Korto, and Leanne. I still don't understand why this isn't planned better. I firmly believe only the final three should show at the tents. Plus, it's a waste of money. Anyway, another Project Runway has come and gone and now you can view them all! And, you can buy them all! While we await the decision on the future of next season, I want to share what I then observed about the winner's collection. I'm not one to toot my own horn, but I had a feeling Leanne would win. Last night, Kenley's collection wowed me over once again and for a second I thought she might win. Alas, a bad attitude and unoriginality spoiled Kenley's chance.

Here's what I thought about Leanne's collection right after I saw it - nothing has changed. It was fresh, innovative, and gorgeous.

Funny how the six collections gradually got better. I think Leanne is going to win. Her collection was as stellar as any of the professional collections from the week. It was conceptual, beautiful, and theatrical. Leanne claimed she "lost a million hours of sleep" over it, and it showed. Sculptural skirts, dresses, and gowns floated down the runway to the beat of a neutral, cool palette. The craftsmanship was expert and you could just feel the adoration in the air. I would wear the ivory off-shoulder top and turquoise petal skirt and the ivory and beige corset mini dress in a heartbeat. And her modern wedding dress blew Suede's off the (project) runway.

Do You Agree With the Project Runway Winner?

Project Runway's first all-female final three took to the catwalk tonight, as Korto, Leanne, and Kenley presented their final collections. Now, the fifth Runway winner has been revealed. Did the right person walk away with the title and the cash? Or was this a grave miscarriage of justice? I'll have more thoughts in the morning (update: it's here!), but for now, vote here (and watch out for spoilers in the comments)!

Perfectly Modern Pleats

This week, pleats added major drama to the Swapnil Shinde show at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter Festive 2011 Day in Mumbai, India. I love the 21st-century take on the classic fabric technique. Pleats come in many variations, including accordion, box, cartridge, fluted, and honeycomb; however, in its most basic form, a pleat is simply defined by folding a piece of fabric back on itself and then securing the fabric in place. While Shinde's are more complex than most (and remind me very much of designer Leanne Marshall's work), they are still, in essence, simple pleats. Used in clothing and upholstery, pleats can add a dynamic quality to the most simple piece.

My absolute favorite furniture design take on modern pleats is the Peacock Chair ($7,200, blue chair, middle row). Designed in 2009 by Dror Benshetrit, it features a dark brown powder-varnished metal base, which is layered with crumpled sheets of felt.

Another more affordable option for modern pleats is the Original Embroidered Paper Art ($85, top row, right) from British-based designer Karen Ruane. Even though this original artwork was inspired by Ruane's grandmother's vintage lace, it has a very modern feel. I'd love to see it framed in a simple black lacquer frame and hung. The piece combines embroidery and paper manipulation techniques and features areas of pricked and hand-stitched paper as well as an area of densely pleated white silk.
