Oscarworthy: Designers And Diamonds Unite!

It's almost Oscars time, so you know what that means? Diamonds galore! Phillip Lim, Rodarte, Libertine, Jovovich-Hawk, and Alabama Chanin have all joined forces with the Diamond Information Center to celebrate Oscars fashions by creating one-of-a-kind red carpet looks incorporating diamond pieces.

All the gowns, including Rodarte's (left), are currently on display at the Chateau Marmont in LA - today is the last day - so if you're in the area, stop by and report!

read more Lim has designed a "Galaxy" gown with the help of a Cartier antique brooch. The Rodarte sisters, Laura and Kate Mulleavy, used five diamond butterfly Van Cleef & Arpels brooches to liven their pink dress. Jovovich-Hawk borrowed a gold and diamond Camilla Dietz Bergeron necklace, while Libertine used 21 Neil Lane brooches to dazzle their 1930s black-velvet frock. Alabama Chanin teamed up with Gem Palace and used $50,000 worth of rough diamond beads along the neckline of her ivory gown. I sure hope someone wears one of these diamond-in-the-rough gowns to the Oscars!

Celebrity Style: Kate Bosworth

It's so refreshing to see celebs wearing some color, especially considering it's still Summer! Amid a sea of too many all-black ensembles, Kate Bosworth stands out in her green and navy striped Libertine for Target dress. I admire her decision to thrown on a stylish belt; it gives the frock some shape. And it's nice to see such a wealthy gal sporting something so inexpensive - $17.99 to be exact. I'm all for the fusion of high and low fashion and it seems Kate is too!

A mix of prep and Victorian, which is their mainstay, the collection is more mass market with colorful and wearable cheeky separates - at wallet friendly prices. Due in stores in August, I know I'll be knocking on those bullseye doors!

Millworks Pillows and Ready-to-Wear Looks Usher In an Early Spring

Maybe it's the unusually warm Winter we're having in Northern California, but I'm already anxious to incorporate exuberant Spring colors and patterns into my wardrobe and home.

Luckily, H.D. Buttercup's San Francisco location just added a new millworks shop-in-shop filled with pillows ($58-$78) covered in graphic patterns and groovy palettes. While the prints are botanically inspired, the drawing style and colors evoke a sort of retro, California coolness that I love.

I noticed a similar vibe in pieces from Lela Rose, Erin Fetherston, and Libertine's Spring 2012 collections. The mesh of contrasting, abstract patterns in complementary hues achieves the same sort of effect that a sofa full of the new Millworks pillows would - funky, but still polished. Perfect for ringing in an early Spring!

Last night, celebs stepped out in style to celebrate the 2011 CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund finalists at Chateau Marmont. We spied three particularly fashionable ladies in the crowd: Dianna Agron made an appearance wearing a black and white printed dress by Libertine paired with point-toe pumps and a pretty wavy hairdo. Kate Bosworth showed off her abs in a two-piece ensemble by Proenza Schouler paired with black accessories and a poppy orange lip. Meanwhile, Michelle Monaghan opted for a minimally modern look comprised of a colorblock skirt and simple tee. Each of the attendees offers her own spin on Fall dressing, but which look do you like best?

Johnny Depp Covers Vanity Fair and Confesses to Doing Films For Money Just "For the Kids"

Johnny Depp struck a hot pose for the cover of November 2011's Vanity Fair, which will be on newsstands Oct. 8. He's chatting up his upcoming movie The Rum Diary ahead of its release this month on Oct. 28. Johnny, though, had more to say about his career and why he chooses to do certain projects. Additionally, some controversy was stirred up when Johnny compared photo shoots to rape. Johnny told the magazine:

On working as much as he can right now: "Basically, if they’re going to pay me the stupid money right now, I’m going to take it. I have to. I mean, it’s not for me. Do you know what I mean? At this point, it’s for my kids. It’s ridiculous, yeah, yeah. But ultimately is it for me? No. No. It’s for the kids."
On making money during his early days in Hollywood by attending Scientology study groups for $3: "I went to a bunch, man. It was so great, it was so fantastic."
On the lack of support for 2004's The Libertine from Harvey Weinstein: "Harvey killed a great film."

Weekday vs. Weekend Sex - Which Do You Prefer?

If you're single, Wednesday night is the easiest time to find a "sexually available" mate, according to OKCupid's latest data analysis. The dating site says people out on Wednesday nights are more likely to rank casual sex as a romantic priority, be open to sex on the first date, and describe themselves as extroverted and adventurous. While news of a midweek flood of libertine singles is helpful information for people looking for last-minute love, it's also disappointing news for most adults, who apparently prefer having sex on the weekends.

A different study released today by sex toy sellers Adam and Eve found 30 percent of adults prefer sex on Saturday night, while 22 percent prefer Friday and 20 percent prefer Sunday. Wednesday is the most popular school night though, with 14 percent choosing that as their favorite night for sex. It is hump day after all. When it comes to scheduling your sex life, do you prefer getting busy on weekdays or weekends?

David Netto Tells Us How Preppy Rebellion Inspired Him, How He Relates to Ralph Lauren, and Why He Hates Blogging!

LilSugar associate editor Rebecca Gruber recently had the chance to chat with interior and furniture designer David Netto about his new bedding and textile collection for children's lifestyle company Maclaren. Since I've long been a fan - I featured him as a Designer Spotlight back in '08 - I sent her some prying questions for Netto in advance. The first segment of Lil's interview is already up, so be sure to check that out. But first, read below to hear how preppy rebellion inspired David's design career, two reasons why he's like Ralph Lauren, and why he hates blogging.

CasaSugar: You're a terrific writer; in fact, you recently wrote an article for WSJ magazine. Do you have plans to write more, or have you thought about keeping a blog?

David Netto: I hate keeping a blog, and so far I have evaded keeping a blog. I like contributing to blogs, but it's so hard to keep it fresh and to commit to doing that every day. I don’t know how Gwyneth Paltrow finds the time. She really puts her back into that.

I contribute to Giggle.com’s blog. I mean they don’t chase after me that often, but the WSJ is a great job. I’ll do anything for anyone who’s nice to me. Deborah Needleman, the editor, was a great friend to me at Domino. I admired that magazine, so when she asked me to come on board that team this Summer, I was very excited. And that’s been great. I need jobs that I can do in my pajamas from California. I’m there with my kids now.

CS: What’s your favorite kind of client? Do you prefer a really hands-on client who has a lot of input, one who says just do whatever you want, or somewhere in between?

DN: There is no such thing as someone that says do whatever you want. That’s a myth. I don’t think that ever really happens, and if it does, it's even more scary, because then you’re completely on your own. Because what if they don’t like that? It’s risk-reducing to work with someone that has opinions and knows something about what they want. What I find very helpful when working on a project is if somebody has a collection. I love it when there’s a book collection, a photography collection, something that has to be accommodated so that there’s a jumping off point for ideas. It’s pretty lonely when there isn’t one.
