Model Liya Kebede Talks Minimal Makeup in Cannes

For model Liya Kebede, Cannes feels like magic. "It gets into you the minute you arrive here," she said this morning. "It's very glamorous, and I like that it's very international as well. You see all these different people from all over the world coming with their films, which is great." It's been a big year for Liya, who was named a L'Oréal Paris brand ambassador last June and is making forays into the film world. She's currently working on The Best Offer from Cinema Paradiso director Giuseppe Tornatore.

There's more to Liya than her stunning looks, though. She won a BellaSugar beauty award thanks to her philanthropic efforts. Her eponymous foundation is dedicated to improving maternal health, and she's created a clothing line, Lemlem, which helps support craftswomen in her native Ethiopia. Today, the supermodel talked about her various work endeavors and shared her best tips on beauty, the inside scoop on her own makeup routine, and more.

BellaSugar: It's pretty surreal here. Have you ever had an incredible Cannes moment?
Liya Kebede: I think you get it every time you get here. Last time, I ran into Woody Allen in the lobby. You can't believe it - it's just insane. There's so many of these great people and stars. At some point, you don't even react anymore. You get overstimulated. Every corner is some incredible person, or you go to a party and it's full of everybody. It's amazing. You just go, "I'm in Cannes!"

BellaSugar: And part of Cannes, is of course, getting made up and looking great, which you're quite familiar with, I'm sure. What's the best tip you've learned from the pros?
Liya Kebede: Less is more. If you're going do an eye thing, then don't do a lip thing. Try to find a balance about what you do. Also, nothing is necessarily specific - using a lip thing on your eye or cheeks is fine, and it works, and it's light. Play around! Nothing is so fixed.

Liya Kebede Named L'Oréal's Newest Ambassador

Model, actress, and philanthropist Liya Kebede has just been announced as L'Oréal's latest global brand ambassador, joining stars like Freida Pinto, Gwen Stefani, and Jennifer Lopez among the beauty brand's spokeswomen. Liya has served as a goodwill ambassador for the World Health Organization and has also founded the Liya Kebede Foundation, a group that works to reduce maternal and child mortality rates in her home country of Ethiopia. Back in 2003, Liya was the first black model to sign on with Estée Lauder cosmetics. She'll undoubtedly make an excellent addition to the L'Oréal family.

Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen Couple Up For a Big Apple Screening

Rachel McAdams and her Midnight in Paris costars wrapped up their visit to the Cannes Film Festival and headed back to NYC, where they attended a Cinema Society-sponsored screening of the upcoming Woody Allen comedy at the Soho Grand. Woody was there to pose for photos with Rachel, as was her real-life leading man Michael Sheen. Many of their other cast members were in France, but it seems Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and Léa Seydoux sat out the latest press event. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, along with Sofia Coppola and Rachel Roy, did come out to see the movie. Rachel, though, was happy to smile for photographers in a long, white Louis Vuitton gown, but she changed into a black jumpsuit for the afterparty also held in the hotel. Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen were among the cutest couples at Cannes while promoting their own project and checking out the debut of Sleeping Beauty. Their travels on behalf of the big-screen endeavor will wrap up when it arrives in theaters Friday, but hopefully there's lots more of Rachel and Michael's adorable PDA to come.

In an effort to revamp its image, Lacoste is launching a new 2011 ad campaign featuring Liya Kebede and Anja Rubik, among others, topping their eveningwear with the label's iconic polo. As Lacoste's Chief Executive Officer Christophe Chenut explained, the new ads are part of the company's attempt to embody the brand's statement: "We're showing that you can be chic in a different way, not just when you are dressed up for a party or for the office." The clothes were a sherbet rainbow of luxury and Gisele was on the brink of being the next big thing. Throughout the years, Estonian model Carmen Kass has embodied the jetsetting American sportswear aesthetic that is Kors. I know it's very Working Girl, but it's a sexier alternative to tights. Case in point: Liya Kebede in a satin Stella McCartney Resort dress and sheer hose.
